Holy crap. What convinced you to switch from a MacBook? My friend is convinced that he can game on one of the new MacBooks. I'm trying to convince him otherwise and that his money could be spent much better. He seriously wants to play Bioshock Infinite on a MacBook. His only reason for a laptop is portability, which he might as well use a tablet for. He would have enough money left over from building a PC to buy a nexus 7 and then some.
When you say new MacBooks, do you mean the new MacBooks with Retina display?
I honestly don't even know what he is looking at. All I know is he is seriously misguided with his research, because he is considering a MacBook for gaming in the first place.
Hi! so i play a lot of video games. its actually funny cause right after i sold the mac for this new pc, the first game i played was bioshock infinite on ultra. but honestly, the integrated graphics just dont do it. i like macs. they're pretty computers and if you can afford it by all means, buy one. but when it comes down to playing games, you can spend less money and get something that will do the job 10x better. i hated having to play league and wow on low settings. my friend has the new macbook, and he can only do medium quality on most games.

If you have a few bucks left over, consider replacing the stock heatsink with an aftermarket one. Not only do they cool much better, but as I can see you're an audiophile, you'll enjoy that they are usually much quieter too. I opted for a sealed-system water block and purchased a couple ultra-low noise fans for the radiator.

I don't see why he had to get rid of his Mac, or why that's a good thing. Unless he needed to sell it to afford his PC (which I hope he built himself, otherwise he might as well have stayed on the Mac)there's not reason to hate. As someone with a Macbook retina - it's a very portable device, comfortable to use, and given it's physical features I'd say it's worth the money.
