Why the shitty GPU with high end other parts?

Simple... cost. That is actually the first thing I plan on upgrading, but I just bought it in December so it may be awhile.

Pretty much the graphics card and that is it. If you stick with Nvidia then 670 or higher. ATI 7870 or higher. Everything else looks awesome.

I agree, but it is still a very capable card and I did say to start there.

Judging by the X79 platform I would hope he is using multiple GPUs, but it could just have been an informed purchase.
