Computer Setup

I had to copy a bunch of data for a client(all of it in lotus) and convert it to run on a newer setup. I had sent some friends the picture oregon trail running as a joke as well(it ran off an emulator not using the floppy adapter).
Hey man you just need to know you're a pretty cool dude for showing this that junk is hilarious
For those of us who are pretty new to the gaming setup game, what's going on here? It's a floppy drive jerry-rigged into a MBP, right?
Yea current gen i7 macbook pro running a 5.25 inch floppy drive. You can't just use a 5.25 inch floppy on any floppy controller, the controller needs to support it which many of the later ones don't. I could have dug up an older system or just get the controller. I had to order the floppy drives so I just went with the solution that I knew would work. I'd say about 95% of the disks had readable data(disks from the mid to late 80's and some from the early 90's).
Thank you! This is pretty neat, I wouldn't have thought this was possible.
It does have some limits(like it can't write to the disks). In my case I just needed the data off them so I didn't care. Used the most current version of lotus smart suite(like from 2005ish) to open the documents and 123 files and convert them into word and excel docs. The company that makes the adapter does make a case that will fit it and a floppy drive but it wasn't in stock when I ordered the stuff. I ended up having compatibility issues anyway and had to use more then one drive to get the data(hence the second drive in the background).
5.25 drive, that brings back memories
Not many of them good, but still brings back memories.
