Computer Setup

My first station with an Athlon 3700+, a gig of ram, and a Nvidia 7300GT would've been a shamble of ramen cups, soda, Rockstar energy drinks, and RuneScape with my maxed character on it.. or BF1942 then BF2.
I miss those days so much. When I was throwing the album together it was so nostalgic.
Your old case gave me insta-nostalgia. i remember considering that case
How big was the wall mounted desk and was it very stable? I need this cause i think im going to build one.
Very stable. It was long enough but not wide enough. You can get a bigger top though.
The desk Im going to build is going to be 7ft long and 2ft deep so do you think it will hold?
As long as you mount it properly. You can make anything hold. Get some 3 inch lug bolts for mounting to a stud in the wall and make sure your brackets are long enough to accommodate 2 feet.
Oh my, I'm feeling old now. My first build had an AMD K6-2 266Mhz CPU and I believe I ended up with one of the Nvidia TNT cards on that build. That was quite a while ago...
Yeah it wasn't SO long ago. I'd say after the white-case era. But eh.
I had the same 3700 too. It was the San Diego core right?
Yep. Ran RuneScape and BF2 decently enough if I remember right.
Serious PC nostalgia feels. Started off with a 3400+ and a 7300LE. Barely handled WoW. Ended up getting two 7600GTs. Ah the good ol days...
Who the hell prefers 4:3?
My friend dosn't like change. I never understood it...
Haha, I thought this myself when I saw that
Some professional counter strike players still play on a 4:3 resolution.
I can't play CS 1.6 on a widescreen resolution. I still use 800x600, even on my 24" 1080p LED. It just feels right. And since the graphics are crap anyway (it's a 10+ year old game after all) it doesn't really matter.
What keyboard is that in photo 31?
The fishtank by the computer makes me nervous in your wallmounted picture.
Only thing I was worried about was actually mounting it because I already had the fishtank there.
Good, I feel more at ease about it now. :P
You do the same as me, Steam open on the right monitor. Skype open on the left monitor. Ahhhh, the perfect life!
What did you use to cover up the cable coming down from your tv? I've been looking for something like that for a while. My TV is also mounted but the cable is dangling, thank you!
What is that box covering the cables of your PSU in your current rig? Looks handy.
That box actually comes with the CoolerMaster HAF-x case. It really cleaned up the look!
My first build was in that exact same raidmax case!
I always love albums like this. You did not disappoint. Upvote.
I had that same case in your first picture! Oh the memories :)
To be fair, most "gamer" cases were the ugliest things back then - compared to standard gear that was available.
Hey! That raidmax case was damn sexy!
In the last picture I only see 3 ram modules for 16 gigs... So like 2x4 and 1x8? Awesome post, and nice build, BTW!
Oh okay, I was just a little confused because I didn't see the heatsink, and I doubted you'd use 3 corsair vengeance modules, and one mismatched one :P
I think everyone had that raidmax case at some point. It was actually my first build. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome post... CRT's bring back so many memories, and phantom back pains as I had 2 x 21".
The old ones in the beginning are Audio Pulse D12 powered by a old ass fisher amp. The new skinny tower ones are energy C500. Centre Channel is energy reference connoisseur. I have 2 rear Energy C200. and finally a Energy S 10.3 subwoofer. Its powered by a shitty sony amp - I need a much better AMP to really push the speakers to their full potential however I live in an apartment now so I cant push them anyway. They just look awesome.
Awesome speakers, and you're right, they do look good!
Gotta love audio deals, only thing I've paid full price for was my Emotiva amp.
Having the 670 is so nice. I remember on the build a pc coolcomputersetups they were adamant about how it would be worth it and they were totally right. Playing games on ultra high is awesome.
I'm pretty sure I had that case in your first few snaps when I built my first PC - circa 2003/04, although mine was silver in colour.
I was in love with that case. It was a peice of shit but damn I loved it.
My computer setup is currently in its first gen and I am at the age of thirteen. I can only imagine in the years to come my computer setup will (hopefully) be an oculus rift, an omnidirectional treadmill, a surround sound headset, and maybe some accessories like guns and such. For now though I have an amazing PC that I built with a radeon 7970, 16 GB of ram, and an i7-3770k overclocked to 4.2 GHz. I am very grateful to live in this wonderful era of technology.
I am twice your age and my computer probably has 1/4 the power. This hurts...
They... they grow up so fast...
Hit me right in the nostalgia
In picture 5, I have that exact 42' tv, IT SUCKS, glad we are thinking of getting a new tv
Mine got a line of dead pixels after years of faithful service. I bought a new 47' tv off craigs list for 400 bucks after that!
Ikea galant desk in beech -- I too have one of those. Only complaint is the color is discontinued now so you can't get addons to make a mega-desk.
Huh, i cant afford a big desk for now but there is one corner not in use in my room, did that wall mounted desk hold well?
Yup! it had 4 x 3 inch lug bolts in the wall with a heavy duty bracket. It wasnt going to rip out of the wall.
Holy shit your room (6th pic) looks so familiar.
Nope my name is my username haha
Why is your TV so high up the wall? Do you watch it while standing up? (Seriously asking, not being an ass here.) It really ought to be at eye level for wherever you sit. The bottom of mine is about 18" off the ground.
Its because I'm lied in bed when I'm watching it. In the first pictures its because I failed at mounting it.
I love how that Corsair power supply lasted over all those years. I just received mine(850W too) and I love it
What samsung monitor is that? I've got a 23" syncmaster LCD, but I'm looking to upgrade as it's faithfully served me for 3 years now and I'd like to get a flashy new LED monitor. And I loves me some samsung quality.
BX2250. It's discontinued now. Samsung monitors are boss!
THAT CASE!!!! THE FIRST PICTURE!!! WHAT IS IT CALLED!!!! THAT WAS MINE AS WELL!!!! seriously though I never learned what it was called lol.
I used to have that same case as you in the first picture. It was the most awesome thing at the time.
I feel like this is something that will be hung up at your funeral viewing.
I recently bought a Samsung 21.5" monitor. Plugged it into my MacBook. Oh, look, black bars on the edges. What? Apple doesn't support third-party monitors larger than 1600x1200? Fuck Apple.
What logitech speakers where they? More interested in how you mounted them in pic 20.
The bottoms had little hangers so just a screw and attached them to the hanger. It's a logitech X530
If i were you i would purchase another 670, you will be amazed what a difference sli makes when running a multi monitor setup. They have taken a nice price drop so you may be able to get one cheap :)
I already have SLI 670's. Look at the last pictures my friend :)
So you have! My bad :)
Holy fuck man, a 43' T.V. Where can I find one of those?
This is the first time I see CM V8 Cooler in a build. How was/is it?
That's awesome! Reminds me of my first computer i ever built. Intel e6300 2 gigs of ram and a Evga 7600GT, Nostalgic (:
You sli 670's on a 850 psu? I have a 1000w psu and a single 670, thinking of getting a second one. currently 16gb corsair 3tb hdd and 8 core amd 3.4ghz. think that second 670 will work out alright?
How did u mount those speakers?
Can you build the terminator?
So there's a box, full of crazy screaming fans and a red light. I'm not really seeing the awe here. I mean really the main difference is that PCs have gone from beige boxes to black ones. I was expecting to see some awesome home project with something like a fish tank which has both oil and water in it, the motherboard etc in the oil, and fish swimming around in the water... or something. The box with a red light isn't enough.
This post is quite poor without stating the year for each shot. 'Back in the day' is lame.
