You should see the tangled nest I stuffed inside the case :)
We produce live streaming video. This is our setup for roller derby tournaments.
It's nice to see live streaming being done right with decent equipment and a good infrastructure. Your setup looks fantastic!
Thanks! It's our business and our passion and it's great to make a living doing something you enjoy!
Mind going a bit into the specs and equipment? I'm looking to set up a very basic equivalent to this with XSplit and a bunch of webcams.
Happy to! I'm in show all weekend so I have limited time (between directing games), but keep asking questions and I'll keep answering!
Well does SDI allow for greater distances compared to USB? I've heard of it, but I'm honestly not too familiar with it.
Way more. Like hundreds of feet versus dozens of inches. Depending on your equipment, encoding spec, etc. you're probably not going to get more than a few feet over USB. I mean you can try using USB extension cables, but I don't foresee it going well. It's not designed for that.
Just be aware of the limitations- webcams often don't have adjustment for matching picture (iris, white balance, frame rate) so trying to make a show with them can be tough. Many are low resolution and low framerate. Almost none have a real lens for zoom/focus control. Your immediate benefit, though, would be using software like vMix (maybe even Xsplit) to take all the inputs and switch your show- no extra devices.
Cool. I did a BlackMagic ATEM TV setup just recently.
CG is actually through a custom scoreboard app built by some roller derby volunteers. It produces an html/javascript page that live updates, background is green so we chroma key it in. Get it into our ATEM via HDMI (the netbook running the ATEM control software also has the scoreboard on its external/hdmi monitor).
