Computer Setup

Got tired of having a rats nest at my feet, so I cleaned it up. Not worthy of cable porn, but still a lot better. Thought you all might like the concept of having a server rack power strip in your desk to clean up wiring.
Yeah that's pretty sharp - nice work.
Is it a 15 or 20 amp strip, and where did you get it from?
I tried this before with "super-strong" velcro and the power strip just fell down. What'd you use to mount it?
On the last picture of the album you can see that he didn't actually mount it on the desk panel per se, but rather through the panel as the power strip has outlets on both sides. Probably cut out a hole for it in the desk and used some putty to hold it in place.
It is a rack mount power strip it has mounting holes on the sides you can see them in the picture
Looks to me like he actually screwed it in through the desk with the four mounting holes on the power strip (it's made for a server rack, so it has those screw holes in it already).
Where can i get those clip things you have stuck to the back of the desk?
Lowes. They are adhesive zip tie mounts.
Ah, the gentleman's ball scratcher.
What PC case is that?
Looks like a CoolerMaster HAF 932. I have one, and it looks similar, but mine has red lights
I have one with red lights too. The fans can have different colored LEDs in 'em, I've been thinking about switching to green.
It has red on the front, but I replaced the side and back fans with better ones I had from a previous build.
Dude, you are a genius. I'm going to steal that idea. I just have to figure out where I should mount the power strip. Thanks for the idea OP!
The difference is like night and day. Nice job!
I really like how the output ports on that monitor are at the back of the stand, that's a good solution for removing them from the sight.
Thanks I needed the inspiration. It takes guts to tackle a huge rats nest. Good idea with the surge protector I'm going to start doing that.
I just installed that exact same strip in a little rack build I did for our VoIP system at work. It then connects to the UPS in the server rack.
Normally I don't save cable-cleaning posts like this for me to reference later, but this one is so good, I HAD to.
I would like to thank you for appropriately using the term "Cable Management." You, good sir, have a respect for not only the term, but the art of cable management.
This may sound ghetto but...... is it okay if I just use tape?
I have that same AOC monitor, i love it
Every time I do this I have to pull it apart 5 minutes later to change something.
You need to be careful of that plug in the final photo - tweaking the cable like that could damage the charger/AC drop. Flip it over, if possible.
Yea, I know. Unfortunately flipping it over hits my legs under the table. Someday I will check my box of many wires to see if I have a smaller replacement plug.
Hey you could do what I did take a dark sheet/piece of fabric and pin it to the back of the desk it would look amazing. Or even take a thin piece of wood and use finishing nails to put it on the back.
Any reason you chose to mount the power supply on the top of the case?
Thanks for reminding me that I need to get my cable management on. My "gaming setup" is nowhere near worthy of display here (I don't even game on that thing, I still need to grab a GPU to put in it) but it's a pain to be kicking cables all the time with my feet. The current setup has two power strips (one of which is a big heavy battery backup brick) and more cables than I care to mention.
Why the two desktops and one monitor?
Out of the two on the right side of the picture, only one is plugged in.
The desktop on the outside of the desk is my gaming rig. The one inside the cabinet is a media server that I am not currently using. The laptop and two monitors beside it is my work computer.
I showed this album to my wife with no context saying that I needed to do something similiar. She said 'omg where did that chair come from'? I told her I didn't even notice the chair and she said 'this is just like the time you didn't notice the godzilla'. hahahahah
It's the chair she sits in when I am ignoring her playing a game or working. I moved it before I though "I should take before and after pictures"
