Computer Setup

Wow, great setup! I love that headphone stand too, I really need to buy and/or make one like that.
Thanks!I bought the headphones fairly recently so it's good to be able to stretch them out on the stand.
Where did you get that stand?
Have the same stand. I got it on sale for $30 but I can confirm it is awesome. Looks great and carved beautifully. Would recommend
What charting software is that?
Blue charts are FXCMs Marketscope & the one on the left is MetaTrader 4
Where did you learn how to trade? I would love to get into it. Small scale at first.
Could you explain me "trade" ? what is it i have no idea. thanks in advance
Trading stocks. Investing in companies to hold shares.
Ok thx couldnt figure it out ^
How much money do you need to get started?
To just 'give it a try', a lot of brokers will let you open an account with $50 or around that. But to actually make a living you'll need thousands. If you're interested in it I suggest you read as much as you can before putting any money up.
How much money would you say you'd need, not to make a living out of it, but to make something like 100-200 a month, just as a hobby.
With an account size of $1000 and conservative risk of around 2% per trade, you'd be able to trade at roughly $0.30 per pip ($20ish margin) which means you'd need to be netting 600 pips per month just to make around $180.
I'm not sure. I live in Hong Kong and got it from a random office supply firm here a few years ago.
Ok thanks, I really like the look of the desk.
I'll have a look around my old emails and see if I can find it for you.
OK thanks a ton man.
Upvote! I want that exact same desk.
Still no luck... Will continue to look.
Look all over the desk. There might be a serial number or even a sticker in Chinese.
Damn. Are you able to read what it says? I'm wondering how we can translate it...
I found the email! The link is dead though. I guess they shut down their online store.
Also loving that desk! Been searching for over a year for the right one and that looks perfect. Would love to find something similar to that. Nice setup!
Really sorry but it's another random furniture place in Hong Kong.
Wow, your house must be fairly big (for HK standards) to have such a nice gaming setup. Where abouts in HK do you live? I'm from there too.
Thanks man. I live in Central.
Do you trade forex for a living? Algorithmically or no?
Forex, Bonds, oil & indices yeah. 90% manual with the exception of a few auto strategies I'm working on.
I couldn't help but notice the vape the in first image, what kind is it? Really nice setup, by the way.
Thanks very much. It's the eVic with a Totally Wicked Odyssey on top.
Yep, but what is the name of the RBA he is using? The tank is about half the size of the Evic.
That keyboard looks delicious, where could I get one in the UK?
I don't think you can sadly. The only place I've seen it is on amazon.com. Shipping might not be too bad... And it's totally worth it!
I love how you have a beautiful station and a pre built dell :D
Yeah I'm not proud of that. It was more of a time thing when I bought it. Next time i'll be building my own.
How's the motherboard in the thing? Honestly, the specs aren't bad; it would be pretty kick-ass if you got a better gpu.
It's good enough for what I use it for at the moment. I was thinking about adding another 7870 for when BF4 comes out, but then I'd have to replace the PSU and whatnot. Cooling is okay. Only rarely do the GPU fans go above 30-40% and overall it never gets too warm.
Yeah, no kidding! And he can't be more than half an hour from the Golden Computer Center, which is pretty much the cheapest place to buy computer parts in the world. No sales tax and good exchange rates leaves Hong Kong with better prices on things like video cards and CPUs than what you pay in the US before shipping and tax.
What keyboard is that if you dont mind me asking?
In the description it says "Rosewill RK-9000I Mech keyboard with Cherry Blue".
Thanks. only looked at the first image threw res and didn't realize there was a description :)
It happens to the best of us.
Looks very similar to the Filco Majestouch 2, but the cord is further to the right and it's been re-branded by newegg to their house brand 'Rosewill'. The specs and N-Key rollover features are identical to the Majestouch, along with both having a removable USB to Mini-USB cable.
So you are going to play star citizen? Right?
That feel when your headphone stand costs almost as much as your headphones.
I think massdrop had a group buy and they got down to $40 or so. I regret not picking one up.
I have the Brainwavz stand. It wobbles a little but it does the exact same job, albeit less aesthetically pleasing.
It's a constant battle against the cat who drops hair like he's paid to.
If you ever decide to build your own PC (Which I highly recommend especially for your setup,) get a case like the Fractal R4 that has great dust management, or a well sealed case because you can always throw dust filters over the fans.
I really like that wallpaper pattern; especially the way the blue LED's cast on it. Those A-10 sim pictures are stunning!
I had to stick the LED's to the wallpaper to reflect off the back of the desk as the wallpaper itself is too reflective haha. & thank you!
That wallpaper on your actual wall, where did you get it?!
My wife got it for me from the wallpaper store(?) here. Fairly standard though, I'm sure you'll be able to find something like it near you.
Nice setup! I just started learning DCS: A-10c. Picked up the TM HOTAS, some pedals, and trackir.
Good job! I started with the x52 and upgrading to the TM is like a dream. Still waiting on the pedals to arrive though.
Ah man, a fellow Hawg pilot! I've been learning the sim for a month or so now and got one of my buddies hooked. Currently using the x52 Pro and saving for the TM. That is one sexy HOTAS, (huehuehue). Hopefully in the future I can upgrade from my 6970 and get better performance in eyefinity, I'm running just one monitor right now to keep it nice and smoooooooth. How long have you been playing?
The difference from the x52 to the TM is mind blowing! Nothing better than doing the startup procedures by flicking switches. Have only been learning it for maybe 2 months, still not very good either! Great fun though. Are you using trackir?
Yeah I can't wait to get my hands on one! I just got TrackIR a couple weeks ago, it changes everything! I'm not great either but I'm getting to the point where I feel competent doing most things. Been crunching info from videos at work lol. Last night my buddy was lasing targets for my God's and it worked flawlessly, so fun.
Yeah that's mostly how I've been learning too. The training missions are buggy and very stale. You might want to try a fun scenario I practiced. Get some decent altitude, say 8-10k feet and fly upside-down for a while. Your engines will stall because the oil pumps don't work upside-down haha. You now have to restart your brick of a plane before you die. :)
Damn thats a great idea! Much more eloquent than what I do... Get to 25k and accelerate full speed into the ground to see how fast you can go..
Ahahahaha I've definitely done that as well. I also found out that with too many bombs the jet does not like pulling out of the dive... As for my scenario, well, it was born the first time I flew upside-down for fun and didn't know about the oil issue... Such a good sim. The when I fired a couple Mavericks from one wing and realized why my plane was pulling to the left I was hooked.
Yep... I can confirm that! I'll give that a go then next time I'm playing. Seems like a good way to get to know the start up procedure quickly as your (virtual) life depends on it!
Oh yeah one thing that really sucks though is that your GPS loses power and so you need to either land to re-align or fly level and straight for 8 minutes to do an in-flight alignment. Uuuuuuuuuugh. It's primarily for the excitement factor though, so enjoy!
Ahh a good old trading setup. Much cleaner than my dad's old setup with 3 laptops on chairs and monitors on whatever we could find.
I trade mostly forex & indices with a few others on the side. Mostly day trading but moving progressively towards swing trading these days. It's a fun job but incredibly stressful.
Oh I know that first hand man. Some days I'd come home from school and my dad would have the garage speakers on full blast working on the car telling me we were going out for dinner wherever I wanted.
That's spot on! Everyday you'll experience pure happiness and the deepest sadness. But yes nothing beats being your own boss & choosing your own hours.
I'd love to know what it's like for you trading in Asia. I currently daytrade forex in the states but after traveling to Asia recently I'd love to move there but I fear what it would be like trading there, especially for forex.
It has it's challenges for sure. Early morning for me is very relaxed as not much is going on. Around noon my time is where things actually get interesting. So rather than working from 6-7am till 4pm, my day really starts at 12 and I'm done when I hit my targets, usually before 7pm.
Are you American? What got you to move to HK if so.
Nope, I'm British. My wife got recruited to a firm here a few years ago. Looking forward to getting back to the western world!
When I saw that first image, I thought you did it in Blender. Awesome setup!
How acould you affor... Oh.
Do you like the NEX?
I like it. I'm no photographer and just wanted a camera to take better pics than my iPhone and for that it's great.
I really need to clean my desk...
What does a day trader like yourself make?
What desk is that and what chair is that? I really like them
Where did you get the Kerbel Jeb fig from?
If you look on the kerbal store they have a link to Shapeways (3D printing) where they do it.
For anyone else who just wanted a link to the item in question and price tag:
How's the chair? I'm thinking of getting that one
Do you trade for a day job?
That's really cool, how did you get into the business? Econometrics student here, I'm really interested in E-trading/HFT/Programming in general
I have an economics background and used that (and a huge amount of online info) to learn it myself. There's a LOT of money to be made in HFT... Especially the guy writing the algos. I envy the people that can do that.
(Rude question, don't have to answer if not comfortable) how are profits this quarter/year/5years? The market has been on a peak I hear, great average returns for big indices etc, how are you faring? Also, are you in it for the long run or do you buy/sell more on short term?
Profits are good! I'm definitely more short term. Most trades are opened and closed within the day, so the even if big indices are down I can still do pretty good. You've got to learn to adapt your strategy to constantly changing markets, that's the key to trading success.
FXCM. They're a little more pricey than most, but worth it for the execution & platform.
It seems that day trading has worked out well for you. #jealous.
Whenever I see a beautiful set up like this it just encourages me to makes sure I get a kick ass job when I graduate.
I am really inspired by this setup. I want to start investing but I have no idea how to get started. Sick computer setup!
Beautiful setup. Is that a 13/15" Macbook Pro?
Thank you! Yeah it's the 13" Retina. Forgot to list that in the description.
Trading must be going well then, awesome setup.
Sweet setup. And is that a vaporizer I see there on the left? Wish I could give you an extra bookmark for that. Vape on friend.
Indeed it is. Kept me from smoking for 3-4 years now.
No offense, but I think your cat is broken. Why is it not on your keyboard?
Not broken, this is clearly the model that has the automated dust bunny deployment module.
That's so accurate. He was on my lap once and I was stroking him and this huge ball of fluff came off my hand, floated down and I watched it get sucked straight into the NAS!
Haha there's definitely some plotting going on in that second pic.
Anyone know where a similar desk to this can be found? I see OP's is random Honk Kong..
What char is that? It looks like heaven to sit on.
What chair is that?
I've been investing for about a month now, forex for a few days but it's already easily my favorite. I'm hoping that I can do it as a career.
Just keep at it and you'll be able to!
That desk is awesome, where did you get it ?
Great setup! I used to play fly all of the DCS Sims... My warthog got destroyed in a house fire last Sunday along with my computer and the rest of my gear... Hoping to have it replaced soon.
Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear it.
Please, where did you get that chair/what brand is it! Looks much more comfy than my current gaming setup chair
