Computer Setup

Thank you! It's performing very well, enough to crush consoles :) Cable management was very difficult, haha. Good thing the Dimension had an extra peripheral bay
MoBo- MSI FM2 A75MA E35 GPU- Geforce GTX 550 Ti CPU- Athlon X4 750K Quad Core Processor RAM- 8GB Patriot Viper Xtreme PSU- Cooler Master 550W PSU HDD- WD 1TB HDD Case, fans, mouse, & monitors- salvaged all for the price of... $317! who said PC gaming had to be expensive?
Saying pc gaming doesn't have to be pricey on Coolcomputersetups?!?!!? Blasphemy!!!
I disagree, I think that's pretty cool :) budget building is half of the fun!
I love it as well. Built my brother's for <$500 and he can play bf4 on ultra...
In this thread: A mostly theft proof desktop. Pretty sweet man!
Or an Intel Pentium IV sticker! Thieves will run like the plague from it
+1 for stealth build. I've often daydreamed of putting a top-of-the line PC into a beige 90's ATX chassis for the fun of it.
Thanks! It does have a very unassuming exterior
That's a lot of work converting that proprietary POS (I've owned a few) into something usable.
Proprietary? These boxes can fit just about anything normal that you throw at them. ATX and built the right way around, can fit a standard power supply (replaced them in my boxes), and some of the nicer ones have vents on the side door. If you're working with what you got, these boxes are pretty good.
The last one I had was very proprietary when it came to motherboard and PSU
I used a dimension 2350 and it was ATX but the power button was proprietary. You can just slide in a new, standard one though.
I did have some difficulty working with this case, as it was not intended for building up with. Although the motherboard fit in like a charm, as well as the power button, but the PSU bracket was in an unusual position and required some adjusting to align with my new PSU. Also, cable managment was near impossible, and airflow had to be improved with some modifications. But overall, it wasnt too difficult as I didnt use any of the proprietary hardware (i.e. PSU) and I just salvaged fans, the case and some peripherals. But I see your point :)
In my case the HDD mount was the worst. I hated how it sat vertically.
Looks pretty good for what you had to work with. You could make the holes on the side larger for some better airflow. Just attach a piece of cheesecloth between the fan and side panel to keep the dust from getting in.
Thanks! I am planning on improving the exhaust port, whether by drilling kore holes or just installing wire mesh I have not decided
Nice setup. Back in 2010 I built a sleeper rig for Lan parties using one of those cases.
Haha thanks! That's generally the reaction I receive with this
I did this with a Dimension 2350 case. Mad props on the sleeper.
Thanks! It is definitely a sleeper if I've ever see one...
My goal was to make it theft proof, so I appreciate the ingenuity. Living just off-campus is not as nice as being in a dorm.
This is actually really cool to see. Most of us with Gaming setups have average looking ones like this.
Creative T10 master race! :)
Spray paint the whole thing blackout and make a window case mod and leave the dell logo. It would be like the refurb beast
The sharpie companion cube really puts it on another level.
Spray paint :) I removed the Dell Logo inlet, sanded the concave logo off, made a stencil for the companion cube, taped it on, then spray painted. And after all that, I STILL manage to paint it on off-center
I'm planning to cut out the circular Dell logo on the side and replace it with a clear plastic Polycarbonate window, and trick out the insides with LEDS...then would you give it some love?
Not really, no. If the cutting is to the same quality as your hole drilling for the fans then it's likely to be a rough edge.
So was the old dell ATX compatible? or did you have to drill all and tap all new mounts to get the board to fit in correctly.
Yep. I got a couple boxes like this. They're built pretty solid for being Dells or before the age where Dell built everything proprietary and backwards. Most of the dimensions that all look like that are the exact same case.
It was ATX compatible, my mobo was micro ATX and fit in like a charm
