Curious why you have 4 laptops and 2 ipads. Not that I'm giving you any kind of crap for it, but is there a need to have multiple mobile machines? What do you use them all for anyway?
The Lenovo and the older iPad were purchased by my last consulting company and I kept them when I left.
Dell is from my current company and is my "work machine".
How much were those alienwares?
$4k ea. The W510 was $5000 with the dock and accessories (not shown).
Lol, why'd you get 3 of them?
You may have got the amount of ram in the title slightly wrong. I was excited at seeing what would have 160gb of ram :(
Sorry, title was for the office total, tho I left off my "server"
Ah, I stand corrected then. I assumed it was specs for the main computer. Somehow expected the total storage to be larger for the total. Do you do any work that requires linking them up over a network?
They are all linked on an unmanaged gig Dell switch. Right now the loads don't cross systems but I need to copy updates around (50-200GB) and I use Wake-on-LAN (when it works - the Alienware's are very iffy) to try to keep the energy costs down.
What do you use it for?
I don't use it. Period.
All that and then you bought one of those keyboards? and that mouse...you ran out of money didn't you?
Been using a MS 4000 for years and I'm very used to them now. I just got the mouse (Logitech G500s) and like it a lot after I played with the weights.
What do you do in there and what kind of books/ stuff is on those shelves?
Work from home for a tech company. Mostly sci-fi books, some fantasy, mystery, thriller, SKing, non-fiction, photography, tech.
Your office looks great! We have a similar sized space; been thinking of adding built-ins for more storage space but those Ikea shelves look good. Might have to consider those.
All the bookcases (4 wide, 1 narrow), wallshelves (2), height extensions (4 and 2*), matching DVD tower (Benno), glass shelves (for the car display) and bookends were under $900. Which was about $2k less than the estimate I got for custom shelves.
Yikes!
No drilling or cutting of the desk I would assume? How's the finish under the overhang?
FYI I have 9'2" ceilings, minus the lit crown molding.
I did not install the keyboard tray the desk came with or the two drawers for the left hand side. I used the extra wood to reinforce the small "shelf" that is installed at the bottom of the side for looks and then make an additional "shelf" to fill in some of the rest. Not making it solid means plenty of fresh air from below.
Are...are you a hedge fund manager?
No, I work for a tech company.
Packing foam around your computer is asking for overheating problems. It should be the only thing in that space designated for a computer.
I cut out the side of the desk and use the foam to ensure only cool air is drawn from the front of the desk and hot air exits out the side.
