Nice job. I love that your girlfriend's mom helped. The faceboard is jarring, though - how do you plan to fix that?

There was a small reinforcement board that supports it on the lip, and the end of that was sticking out, thus making the faceboard stick out. We tried trimming it down with a sander the best we can, however we used up all of the sand pads. It's an easy fix however, just unscrew the faceboard and sand down the reinforcement board a little more to make the faceboard flush. It'll be in the near future.

Cool. I don't know what tools you have, but if your girlfriend's mom has a router (or laminate trimmer), it might be easier to cut a rebate into the faceboard where it fits over the reinforcing board. Then you don't have to work around the wall and the desk and everything else.

That's a good idea, I'm going to ask tomorrow if she has one. Speaking of working around the wall, when we originally sanded the reinforcement board we actually nipped off a little bit of the wall xD luckily the faceboard and desktop was able to cover that up.

Yeah, it can be a pain to get in around stuff you've already installed. There's not much you can do when you realise you have to go back and retrofit something like that, but working on the piece you can fully remove is always easier.
