The M50s aren't the best headphones under 200, objectively.

Usually people get them at the $99 price because they are on special quite a bit and for that price they are awesome.

I do wish the M50's had a better sound stage. I tried out Grado SR60's and loved their sound, but I was in college, going to the library, etc. with my headphones. The open back wasn't going to work.

Grado came out with a closed back headphone, you may want to check it out.

Well, I'm out of college and can get away with open back headphones now.

I got some Sennheiser hd 558's on Amazon for $96 and did the 'foam mod' on them and I really don't think you can get better bang for your buck when it comes to headphones

I listened to them without an amp before, and still prefered them over the M50's. Though if you pic up the M50's at below $100, they are definitely a good deal

As an avid headphones user, theyre the best (my opinion) headphones for their $150 default price. I snagged a pair for $100 and my god is it a deal.

Check out Fostex t50rps, with a few simple mods they are amazing. Great if you are a DIY person

Yes, I'm aware of those. I was just asking Chimy what other headphones he's tried in the price range because he was saying how he thought that they were the best in their tier.

I do prefer the m50s over them

Sennheiser 558's at $130 and the Beyerdynamic 990 pro are two far, far nicer headphones in my experience. But I myself have a pair of M50's as well, A good gateway drug into audio.

Huh? I found that if anything, they LACK a bass boost in simple music listening. They have MARVELOUS balance, and are ample for mixing and music production.

As a pair of reference/studio monitors they have a relatively high amount of bass. Not Beats By Dre bass, but a bit too much for a pair of reference headphones.

Lack...bass? Maybe we have a different pair of M50's, but they do not lack bass at all unless you are a complete basshead.

Maybe they are different, but I meant in music listening, not mixing and mastering for production. I find that there is a lack of it for the bass-demanding genres of rap, dubstep, and electro. Maybe im spoiled but I really dont "love" having overwhelming bass in anything, and I find that it could use a little more oomph in the 20-50 Hz Region

I only listen to music/play games, no mixing for me. The M50's are about as bassy as most headphones go, expecially at that price range. You can get ones that have more bass, but often they will sacrifice other areas of sound. More expensive headphones might have enough for you, but honestly I feel that the M50's have enough. You can always EQ in some more if need be as well.
