How do you prevent dust from getting in every part? Airflow? I really don't like this because it looks cluttered and like you're leaving your parts out to the elements...
This was my first thought as well.. the airflow on that has to be absolutely terrible and unless it's watercooled you can safely assume it's going to receive inadequate cooling.
It doesnt seem to have walls put on it. Just a top and bottom. And from the few seconds I looked at this it looks like he has over 4 fans as well. Please tell me if im wrong. Im no quite a air flow expert.
Exposure to ambient air =/= airflow.
I really have to wonder how loud that setup is too, my graphics card is like a jet engine over 65% fan speed.
You could probably feel the vibration from the fans all the time, too.
I run my case open and on the floor all the time. It's always open and nearly always on. First time I cleaned my radiator was after half a year while replacing the fan, seccond time was a year later.
Careful with those suction cups, they're super cool, but the MB needs to be grounded which the standoffs do in a normal case
I thought the components were grounded through the PSU, no?
Not every component can have a trace back to the powersuply so grounding to the case which is grounded to the psu is easier
Yup. Floating grounds are where components go to die. Any small variance in the supplies ability to regulate power (spikes, brownouts) will result in the components having no way to dump their extra potential back to earth ground. This setup is not creative. It's ignorant.
Nice setup! Nice touch with our lord and savior.
Apparently there seems to be a dash of heresy in this sub coolcomputersetups. "GabeN who are in Valve ,holy be thy name. We ask you to smite the heathens from this post".
Hopefully someone can help me. I was just curious about how the standoff screws discharge static in this setup? Or is this something you don't have to worry about?
So how big of a risk is it to have a setup like this?
Good questions. im sure it will probably be fine. maybe ground one of the mobo standoffs with a copper ground bar (find it at home depot/hardware stores) and some length of wire to connect them to discharge to. might ease OPs mind
My mobo is protected fairly well against static discharge but i still wouldn't mount it like that
This would be a great setup to water cool. Whack in some UV lights and UV reactive coolant..... Just putting it out there.
You know what kind of glass that is? I'd be worried about tempered glasses tendency to spontaneously explode.
Especially repeatedly heating up and letting it cool off. I would't have used glass for the base of the computer.
That whole 50 degrees Celsius that radiates off the back of your cpu? No.
Looks like a ricer piece of shit. Enjoy your led lights blasting you in the face like you enjoy.
Get it all out man
Okay, I'm tired of people being impressed with themselves when they construct heat death traps. This person made a fantastic clear case for pictures and facebook. Functionality be damned. That thing is going to suck up dust in that corner faster than average, but at least it's bright. Battle stations? No, He's making a light up box to take pictures of and post on the internet.
I think that comment was way better than the first one. I agree with you.
He's also going to have a fun time with bad airflow, noise and vibration
I have the exact same desk!
How do you sit there? I have the exact same desk
I never realized how tall the Trident X heat spreaders are. Sweet build.
I have that desk, but with the black glass, I recommend it for gaming since it is fairly priced, sturdy, and looks great. Nice mods though!
I have the exact same desk as OP. It's a great cheap desk but it does have flaws. The braces between the end legs are to low and make sitting close to the desk uncomfortable in many positions. Also beware when tightening the bolts that hold the top bars which the glass sits on. I tightened to much and broke the "weld" that held the threaded nut inside the bar.
Is there enough room on that desk for 2 monitors and a midtower to be placed on top?
I was going to buy that exact desk but was kinda concerned if it was going to be awkward with the keyboard being in the corner. But it looks awesome. Great job on the build as well!
Also had this desk, at one point. Glad its gone now.
Seems to be a rather common glass desk. My roommate had one exactly like it in his room but silver.
The only problem I have with the build is that you left the plastic on the base of the monitor, because it drives me crazy otherwise, I'm quite jealous of this glorious machine.
I just recently got the same corner desk :D Absolutely loving it.
I have the same desk....so tempting!
Sweet build, but you know what would make it even better?
Used to have a similar open air setup. It hung from the wall on a plexiglass frame. Looked sweet as fuck.
Where do your legs go, or do you not sit facing the middle screen?
Nice man! Not enough people use Raptor drives!
That shit probably isn't noisy AT ALL. /s
Does that glass stop the EMF pouring out of those components?
The idea is cool but it just seems silly as cases are used for a reason..
I hope you never spill a drink at your desk.
Haha! Those suction cups are BRILLIANT!!
You had me till Gabe.
The gabe circle jerk is so stupid, i just don't get it.
PC gaming would not be what it is today without Gabe.
That's the point, it 's a circlejerk
Down vote me all you want. No fucks given.
