How do you like that Asus monitor? I've been thinking about that one for a while, partially saving up and partially undecided on it.
I like it a lot. If you play 1st person shooters, than you can't beat it. 144Hz and 1ms response time, that's as good as it gets for smooth gameplay. If you don't play 1st person shooters, or prefer better picture quality, go with an IPS panel. If you go the IPS route, wait to get one with G-sync, or compatible with a DIY kit.
Sounds great. Thank you for the reply! I think I'll probably go with the Asus, it would definitely be more for the gameplay than picture. I may get an IPS for a second monitor later on.
Very nice, this is super clean. Cable management looks damn near perfect too.
Thanks! There are cable trays mounted underneath, even though I got a bit lazy on the TV side, it could look cleaner.
What desk is that? Got a link? Nice setup.
IKEA galant series. Modular desk I pieced together. $500 for everything.
Is the desk still sturdy without the front legs?
The desk is extremely sturdy. No complaints at all.
Would you recommend a i5 4670k and overclock or a non overclockable i7 4770? I dont really see much advantage in overclocking (almost no fps gain) and its dangerous for your cpu
For gaming, an i7 doesn't give a performance gain over an i5. Not $100 worth anyway. That's why I went with the 4670k. Games are now just starting to use 4 cores efficiently. i.e. BF4. The performance gain in games when overclocking depends on the application. Games that are CPU intensive WILL get an FPS gain, such as BF4 or Skyrim. Not so much with a game like Metro LL though. If you are only gaming, then go with an i5 and overclock. Of course you don't have to overclock. Any i5 at stock speed is fine to 'run' a game. Just make sure you have good cooling when overclocking. Especially with Haswell. If you do gaming along with video editing or adobe premier etc, then go with an i7. Overclocking a CPU is not dangerous if you keep temps at a reasonable level. Mine never goes over 70C with 1.24v
Uh, it looks like your cpu cooler is on backwards. Or did you flip the fan as well?
The cpu fan is in a pull configuration.
Ah, i see! Very nice then :)
