Computer Setup

Do you trade at home or is this an office workstation?
Should have said in the title, this is my home office.
DAMN you you poor fuck after spending that kind of coin lol. Nice setup tis very beautiful.
What is that on top of the evic?
That's pretty sweet. looks like a rebuildable carto tank. can't believe I missed the evic until I saw this comment
Yeah I can't recommend it enough. Works especially great with the eVic.
I've moved on mostly to RBAs but thanks for the recommendation. I'll keep it in mind!
First time through I read it as 256GB RAM... Damn near shat myself. Beautiful rig! You did an awesome job with it.
This is seriously cool, looks to be ideal for your area of work. What sort of stocks do you trade? Do you have any experience with Bitcoin/Dogecoin etc.?
That's cool. You'll thank yourself in the future... hopefully.
Dogecoin was a pump'n'dump from the start, riding on the back of suckers like you, destined to fail from the start.
Almost all the cryto currencies after litecoin and bitcoin were there to scam people.
They're not a long-term investment.
What are you talking about? It's currently at $1200+ for 1MIL coins.
I think he's talking about Bitcoins.
How does rising difficulty cause the price to drop? How would inflation account for a drop in price that large when only 2 million in bitcoin are mined every day?
Bitcoin is actually a deflationary currency. Dogecoin on the other hand has a small amount of inflation.
Are you an independent trader? Or do you work for a company? I've never heard of an employed trader to work from home, that would be incredible.
Yep, just an independent retail trader. Although, if you trade for a prop firm, they'll sometimes let you trade from home.
Do you mind me asking what you went to school for? haha
Haha no problem. I did finance & economics. But, a good friend of mine who works for a prop firm now, earns a lot of money, and he did his degree in English. It's a skill you can learn by yourself, but it just takes a long time to master.
What do you mean by prop firm?
Proprietary trading firm. It's a company that recruits traders and gives them firm money to trade with. Most of them also offer training which is a great way to get into it.
I'm definitely looking to get into something like that! Any recommendations?
Babypips is fantastic. I recommend that to all our new traders in the Currency Club I run at my Uni.
Damn, I wish we had a currency club when I was at uni!
You ever trade options? I'm currently doing a simulator (CBOE's virtual trade) and I really like it. It's a lot of fun, and I'm thinking I might go into this sort of thing as a job at some point.
I haven't really. My focus is on FX, equities and the bund futures at the moment. It's all similar though. If you like it and you're good at it, you should consider doing it for your job. At least part time initially.
I work with a financial advisor who manly deals with investment plans. I find it extremely interesting and I'm trying to learn the basics through investopedia, would you have any advice?
A gaming setup like this almost makes me want to get into stock trading alone, just so I can look like some badass sat in front of a bunch of graphs.
Feel weird asking, but what's the 'name' of your wallpaper? Or where'd you get it? I absolutely love the subtle pattern on it.
Haha! I couldn't tell you what it's called though I'm afraid. I live in Hong Kong and got it from a wallpaper store here. And thank you!
If you ever visit that store again or find the packaging for it please let me know! (although who gives a shit about strangers on coolcomputersetups) lol thanks!
I will! Someone asked me last time I posted my computer setup and I've yet to find it again. So I will keep you in mind!
You laugh a lot man. are you ok?
Maybe he's a Chinese (at least he's living in Hongkong). I've read that the Chinese laugh out of embarrassment as last resort. But I don't think that's the case here.
Im just messing around man.
Correct, I'm British. And also correct about Chinese nervous laughter. It's really awkward when it happens irl.
If this isn't too personal, how much money do you have available to trade? How much is used per day of trading? What's your annual return?
A ton! Seriously though, I aim for 250 pips/points per week using the standard 2% of account risk per trade.
Glad to see you have the backup laptop just in case the primary computer goes down. will prob save you a huge hassle at some point :)
Oh yeah you bet! Haha. It's always on charge (used for tweetdeck or general news during the day) and I've got FXCMs number in my phone. Double covered!
Fuck, your cat is adorable.
Haha thanks, he's a pretty cool guy!
What are the cat's specs?
He's a 2012 British Shorthair / Ragdoll & runs on Royal Cannin indoor cat food
That reminds me, looking at those graphics cards, I'm curious why more manufacturers don't put the external power ports on the ends instead of the front. Would make cable management much easier.
I agree, but thankfully I didn't have to build it. If I did, it wouldn't be a total mess!
I had a micro ATX case that I almost had a huge problem with because they were on the sides like that, I had to bend the hell out of the wires to get it to fit because the card was too long.
Im semi new to the stcok market my only major player were some tesla stocks I bought a year ago. Do oyu have any advice to help bring my trading game up?
Whilst I only trade stock indices (and FX), education is the key to success in this game. That and following your plan.
What software are you using, and does it track gold/silver/precious metal prices?
I use FXCMs trading station 2. And yes, gold & silver are tradable as a CFD.
How much does it cost? What are the fees like?
Is this like.. A standard, or are there alternatives? As a Canadian who is investing a lot of his money into silver, I want to take half of that cash out and play around with in trading.
Only buy metals that you take physical possession of.
That's just with my broker, FXCM. As I don't trade metals, the cost of them never really bothered me, although I'm aware that it's a lot. There's definitely some better brokers out there for metals, you can try Oanda, they're a very popular broker with low spreads.
Ah ok, brokers.. Yes.. If only there was a way to bypass them.. xD
No problem at all! And yes, that would be the dream lol!
Hmm, okay, thank you very much for your time, friend :) And seriously, grab some silver while its still relatively cheap and if it drops more in price you don't feel bad. Guaranteed 2-4x profit, 4-5x likely.
Appreciate the tip, I'll look into it!
Wow, that's the most extensive tutorial I've ever seen. Thanks!
You're welcome. It's a great place to start learning!
Whats the screen on the front of your 750D? Looks awesome
Thanks! It's the Aerocool 2000 touch fan controller.
Awesome desk, I want it! Please share where you bought it.
You should play EVE, I think you'd love it
I have wanted to give EVE a try, but I just don't have the time to get involved. Seems like a heavy commitment.
Hmmmm, it can be depending on what you do. Some of my mates have to log on daily while others log on just weekly or even more than that. But seeing as you trade, EVE has probably the most unique and playable market their is i think
Okay cool. I'll check out their free trial next weekend!
How do you like the h100i over the h110?
I hear they're pretty much the same, but I only chose the H100i due to its low/no maintenance and the fact that it's pretty quiet.
Does that mean the H110 has maintenance?
Teach me how to trade!
I work at a major brokerage firm, nice set up! The majority of active traders I interact with fail..... Miserably. What had kept you afloat? aside from such a bull market in 13'?
Thanks very much! That's the sad truth, that most fail. The thing that's kept me afloat I guess is my edge and ability to execute that edge without emotion. As I'm sure you know, it's not easy, but can certainly be done!
Very nice! I have a similar setup but I have only 3 monitors since the space in my dorm is limited...
What time-frames do you trade?
D1 for establishing a daily bias, and H1 for everything else. Yeah you're right, no indicators, just price. Well, with the exception of an occasional MACD. I'm mobile right now so I can't link you anything, but when I get home later I'll send you some links. How's your demo trading going so far?
Sounds like you're doing good! And you're lucky to come from that background, I found it incredibly hard initially to remove emotions. Just make sure you rigidly stick to your plan, even when trading demo. It's easy to take a risky trade on demo and shrug it off if it's a loser, or take credit for it if it wins, so make sure you don't bring that to your live game. An excellent book on the subject of psychology is Trading in the Zone. Practically every professional trader I know has read that and will recommend it highly. Best of luck!
I've heard Trading in the Zone recommended quite a lot. I gave it a skim read and it seems to me like an awful lot of filler and little substance. Or maybe it was just a lot of stuff I'd already learned from my time playing Poker, I don't know. I'll give it another read though.
Srsly how much do you make ?
