Ikea Malm Desk - Computer Setup

Comments

Nice setup! Mind sharing the specs of your build?
Well, as stated earlier it's XL2420T x3, Xfx monitor stand for the "visual" part.
How are the WD red drives? I've been thinking about getting a couple, but the price is exactly the same as the green drives yet they offer a 3 year warranty compared to 2 years on the green. What's the catch?
So far I really like it. There are quite a few people not liking it as it's mainly made for NAS' however so far it's been working as it should and they do have quite remarkable reliability.
It's hyperthreaded and has a larger cache
One thing i've never understood is what exactly a cache is.
IIRC, it's stores some data on it from some program/game you're using, then when you use it again it uses some of the cache file to make some of the hard actions easier to do. It's especially good for browsers, because you can load pages quicker.
On-chip memory. The more cache a chip has, the less often it has to wait while it queries the main system memory, and the faster it can perform a given task.
I buy it from my work, so I get it for the same price as an i5, might as well go for it then.
Same, I get huge discounts on hard drives so I have a ton of storage.
An IT company in Norway. : )
._. im in florida...dam it.
If you spend 350 on a case, and 1000 on a video card, you don't skimp on the processor.
I5's are fine for most people. I run VM's and simulation software which require large caches and hyper-threading to even remotely efficient. The runner up to hyper-threading would be an hexacore AMD CPU.
Do you find the titan to be worth the dough?
I've only had good experiences with it so far. When I built this system I built it to last a few years, so I do think it's worth the money. : )
Why don't you have a 3 way Titan SLI.
I recently moved out of the cardbord house. Now I live in a house made of plastic. Wat
Are those XL2420T's? I have one, and was considering getting 2 more myself. How do you like it?
They sure are. I had one of them for about 6 months before getting the last ones, and I love them. Great monitors for sure if you can afford them. But hey, the difference between a crap monitor and these are quite huge, IMO.
How's the color reproduction on them? I've heard unsavory things.
I use mine for gaming, movies and that sort of thing, no serious video editing or PS / photography, so my opinion would probably be different than them who do.
Did you calibrate the color on them at all? Mine has really wonky color for CS and I haven't really looked at how to get regular colors but it'd be nice to have that as one of the 3 presets.
I've done some to them, but not a lot really. I've been looking for a few decent guides on it as well without too much luck.
Are all running at 120hz?
Yes, they are all running at 120hz. I'm gonna keep looking for a few guides, might find something interesting.
Logitech g710+ or as I like to call it "OW MY FUCKING EYES! IT'S SO BRIGHT"
I usually have the back light at "level 1-2" : )
The stand worth the price?
As an XFX stand owner holding 3 Dell U24s I would suggest caution. See if you can see one IRL to get an idea.
Well, it's quite large, I could probably deal with one being a bit smaller - but I work at an IT shop, where I buy all my stuff from so this was the only 24" triple monitor stand available. :-)
That case is huge! Your gaming setup looks awesome, most played game?
Most played would be wow. I do however try and play other games as well whenever I have the chance, Bf3 mostly. I've also had a lot of fun with Bioshock infinite!
Are you able to eye infinity that game off a titan?
NVidia Surround, not eyefinity.
Why does everyone always have the same wallpaper on every screen?
How do you like your Cosmos II?
I really enjoy it. It's super fun building in. I'm working on the cable management atm, but some of the cables from the psu are a bit too short for being pulled behind the motherboard so I have to come up with a few nifty work arounds! :-)
Yeah it is a monster of a case. Glad it is working out for you.
It sure is. You guys did a great job with it!
That case is the best thing to ever exist.
We have the same desk!
ME TOO, DO I ALSO GET A HUG?
Nice setup. What do you do at said gaming setup? Also with the XFX stand, as I am looking to buy one, how easy is it to make the end two monitors vertical whilst still on the stand? Also what was the cost of the entire station?!?! p.s. here is an bookmark :)
Mostly gaming / working from home. : ]
WOW! And with the monitor rotation on stand?
That was with the stand and monitors. : ) It's however without the mice, keyboard and headset.
Edit: Sorry I meant how easy is it to rotate the monitors on the stand without taking them off?
Oh alright, it's very easy. It wont move if you don't want it to though, so it requires some "force"
Ahh OK thank you! I am hoping to get one of these so I can switch between programming and eyefinity gaming :)
No problem! I need two monitors to be able to properly work from home, so having two and then one for some entertainment is quite nice. : )
Nice station :) What fan controller do you have in the 5.25 bay?
Thanks! Fractal Design Adjust 108. It's not a CM one, but it doesn't look that horrible.
Is that the Malm desk from Ikea? If so, this has pretty much made up my mind that it's what I'll be getting as well.
Yeah, it is. : )
How do you like the g710+? I have the g510 and thinking of upgrading to either that or the corsair k90 and I don't know which to go with
I love it. I have a few different keyboards ( k90, MK-85, ducky tenkeyless and the g710 ) and I like the g710 the most. : )
Can you post a few snaps of the inside of your case?
It's far from as pretty as the other dudes on coolcomputersetups. I'll see what I can do when I get home from work.
Do you like the Roccat Kone? Which version is this one? Thinking about buying the XTD version.
There great mice, hardware wise they fit my big hands very well the software needs some effort to get going. But once it is going its a good driver and I love the led customization.
I got mine simply to test it. Usually I'm really not a Roccat fan, but the XTD is far from rubbish. Give it a go!
How do you like that keyboard? I've been thinking about getting that model. Still not sure yet.
Just copying an answer I gave to the fella who asked the same question. : )
Why so close to the screens? - I guess the desk does not allow more, still do you like sitting that close to your screen?
My desk is pushed a bit away from the wall to make space for the monitor stand -- I enjoy the way it is right now, though. : )
Why do you NOT have ultramon?
Hah, good question. I'll give it a go.
I have that keyboard too the G710+ from logitech its really good. Nice setup too man!
What kind of desk is that? i want to get a new one and that would be the perfect match for my setup
It's called Malm, and it's from Ikea. : )
The same desk I use but a different color haha.
I have this exact desk. Do you happen to have a photo of the left side of the desk? There appears to be a gap between the desk and leg. Mine is exactly the same way!
There's an aprox 2mm gap between the left leg and the "table?" I think it has to do with the round weel thingies you put in to the side of the leg, but I'm not sure. I'll look in to it.
I have the same desk as you! :D
Dat XFX stand that's more expensive than most monitors....
