Triple Monitor Gaming Setup - Computer Setup

Comments

God knows what would happen if i put porn up on it then. :P
Ill take your old monitors :D
They are completely debezeled so they aren't fit to be shipped anywhere unfortunately.
I will drive countless hours to you to get a good deal on those old monitors.
Haha. i'm in western canada... potentially a large trek for anyone. :P
I'm in Washington, how close are you to the border?
What are the chances of damage to the screen then?(i dont give two fucks if the stands are destroyed but all i want is the screen working :l anything is better then my current monitor and if you feel so unsafe about it just send one or two my way free :P )or something..i dunno...are you in florida?
All i have is the screen now anyways. I don't have the bezels for them any more. and damage to the screen is likely. They lose a lot of their rigidity when you take off the bezels... its VERY easy to crack some internals. Nowhere near florida unfortunately... i'm in western canada.
Very nice portrait setup although... Why the jungle gym style case?
I like open air cases, was using an Antec skeleton before this, but it was too small for my video card(s). Just liked this one cause it was unique and more what i was looking for. I was leaning towards just a test bench setup before this one came along. Its a bit pricey, but was worth it for me.
Love the case - Looks great!
Do open air cases require more maintenance because of things like dust, dander, hair, whatever?
Not that i've noticed. With a closed case, all that stuff is getting sucked into the case anyways.
Most cases come equipped with dustfilter these days. I do not get any of those things sucked into my Define R3.
I haven't used a closed case in quite a while so i'll have to take your word for it. :)
Very nice setup! May i ask where i can find those wallpapers?, in your first image please.
Are those TN panels? How do you like them in portrait, I heard they weren't so good when rotated 90°.
Don't think these are TN panels... They are 3D LED so they are actually fine in portrait mode.
Yes, they are. The fact that they're 3D LED panels has nothing to do with how they look in portrait.
I was commenting on the fact that they are fine in portrait and they have good color reproduction, which traditionally TN displays are not able to do very well. I was not aware they were TN panels, but i don't really know why you asked me if they were TN panels if you already knew...?
I never asked, you must be mistaken.
What did you do with the old monitors?
Right now they are just sitting in my library until i figure out what to do with them. They aren't really safe for shipping anywhere so i don't think i'll sell them.
Put them on the otherside and get some 360 immersive typing going on.
9X1 Eyefinity, I dare you!
You have too much money lol
You're not the first person to suggest that. :P
Any tips for de- bezeling monitors? I love that look!
No specifics... for me the issue was getting over that you could potentially completely break whatever monitor you use... could mean wasting a lot of money... I destroyed one myself... once they are out, keep in mind that they aren't very durable... The monitor i destroyed was cause i was trying to adjust it on the pivot of the monitor mount... cracked the screen. :P
Can anything be done at that point? Or just write it off as a lost?
Nothing. You can TRY to put it back in its bezel and take it back to where you got it and hope whoever you're talking to is a moron. But you void the manufacturers warranty. And there is pretty much always evidence of tampering on the bezel itself or something.
There is no 'one-size-fits-all monitor debezel guide'.
Nice mount. But I hear that case really cooks the hardware. Not to mention dust.
Its water cooled. So no cooking. And dust isn't really a big concern. I have had open air cases for years. I don't find i need to dust any more than i did with my closed cases when i did have them. the fact they are open air also makes them easier to dust.
I would love to see more pictures of the tower and a game running!
I'll work on it. I'll try to get some HD Video of it running... something. :P Any requests?
Your setup is beautiful. Very unique case as well.
Do you have pictures of the painting? and do you like the case?
How did you attach the monitors to the mount? There is no VESA mount on the Samsung Syncmaster SA700
Could you post a picture of the back of one of your mounted monitors?
So you literally taped the monitors on with gorilla tape?
I used gorilla glue on the edges of the VESA adapters, put a bunch on the seams and edges, let that sit over night, used some solder on the edges (which was a pain in the ass since the monitors don't take a bead very well) then put a bunch of gorilla tape of that.
When it doubt, duct it out.
Its the handyman's secret weapon after all.
This right here is the #1 reason I will never debezel any of my monitors
Haha I did the same thing with my debezeled monitors too.
Whats the case you have ? looks interesting
I mentioned it in the comments of the coolcomputersetups album, but its an inwin d-frame
Oh i guess i missed that, my bad.
I remember seeing that case a few months back, looked it up and a new one will cost $400.
Its also a limited edition case. People have said due to the open air nature its just for a "test bench"
To swap out components in order to test and benchmark the results.
What's the Novint Falcon like?
Its fun... i haven't tried it much since i got it only about a week ago, and most of that time i have been rebuilding this machine. The support for it isn't spectacular, but it works well in borderlands 2 so i have gotten some time in. Takes some getting used to, but its quite intuitive.
The problem is that the monitors sadly cannot run in 120hz.. atleast all of them. I suppose you are running 4 displayports and a single "Dual"link Dvi? When the card is in this setting, the DVI will be going back to Single link, and will only be outputting 60 Hz, and the rest of the monitors will therefor scale back to 60. Sorry.
I know... i read all his stuff. I was going to try the driver hack.
Would you recommend the monitors?
I recommend the monitors themselves... however if your intention is to make a portrait eyefinity setup then not really. they are a bitch to get mounted, even with the bezels they don't have a VESA mount. I'm just waiting for the day when they have zero bezel monitors and i can stop hacking these things together. :P
Yeah i definitely intend to get a portrait triple monitor setup in the future, what monitor would you suggest then? I prefer 24 inch monitors but does not have to be. Also does 60 and 120 hertz really have that big of a difference?
There is a difference. But whether or not its worth it depends on how much of a video person you are. I would suggest trying to look at 2 monitors side by side, one running at 120hz and one at 60hz and see whether or not the increase is worth it to you. As for suggestions, i really don't know. Mainly i come across good deals for monitors locally and try to find out online if they would be worth the effort. You're going to be staring at these monitors so its a matter of personal taste. Difficult to make a recommendation since its actually a pretty big investment.
If looking to play FPS with surround/eyefinity, 120hz is definitely worth it. Especially if you get a the lightboost capable monitors.
From what I've seen, I can confirm that the VG248QE is a good monitor for debezelling.
I've always liked your 5P setup. Are you planning to quad crossfire?
Don't think so. The cards i have are good, but difficult to get water cooling blocks for. my framerates are pretty decent right now so i'll probably wait for another generation of video card before i start considering getting 2 more of the ones i have.
Ahh, i was wondering because of the power supply, but if you are going to eventually add 1-2 more cards, then its understandable. Usually i see systems that have 1200w power supplies that don't need them. I just wanted to see if there was another reason that you got it (4 vid cards, platter raid systems, etc.).
Yeah. the power supply i got cause it was on special and i thought better to have more power then not enough. I might eventually go quad crossfire, but not with this rig. I wasn't sure how much power draw the water cooling tower would have. I probably could have gotten away with a 1000w PS, but i wouldn't have saved much money by doing that, so i just went with the 1200 with the outstanding power ratings.
That rig could easily go quad. Your power draw for your water cooling system is only 20W. I believe your entire system is taking around 500W. But at least if you want to go quad with a next gen system, you can carry over the power supply. I was worried that my system wouldn't have enough power after overclocking, but after adding up everything , i'm only using 375W.
That case is one of the best I have seen in a long time!
What's the speed of those Samsung 840 Pro's in RAID0?
Uh... fast. :P i haven't had a chance to do some benchmarks yet... going to do that as soon as i have some time.
How do you debezel a monitor?
Basically removing the outer plastic casing and then figuring out a way to hold the internal electronics to the LCD panel.
So basically, a screwdriver and duct tape/electric tape?
Yeah... rip off the frame. The biggest issue with it is trying to mount it to a VESA mount after that. And they are pretty delicate once they lose the rigidity of the plastic frame.
I didn't catch the RAM for this machine. What is it?
What is bezeling? Not sure what I'm trying to find.
The bezel is the plastic frame around the edge of a monitor
Its in the coolcomputersetups album.
So what's the benefit of having your screens vertical?
I'm gonna be honest. your computer looks like it belongs in a gym
I wish I was as rich or fortunate as you, all I can do right now is look at that setup in jealousy
Hows the back lighting consistency after removing the bezel? Like is the lighting evenly distributed? Any bleeding or clouding?
Please for the love of all that is holey, tell me how you mounted these monitors.
Where do you keep the radiator or radiators I couldn't see anyone in the case :)
Have you fixed the hz in the windows settings?
No point. The problem with this, is that the DVI ports on the video card will only allow 60hz. When you create an eyefinity group, it will only use the lowest available setting. There is a driver hack you can do to make it run 120hz to all the display ports and then 60 to the single dvi port you use, but i haven't done this yet. So at the moment i can only use 60hz. there are no other options
Have you tested what I said tho? I got a 120hz monitor and a 6(00)hz plasma TV hooked up to my GPU, and the monitor was only displayed w/60hz untill I changed it there
He's saying it won't work mate - for some monitors there would be a 120Hz option, but for the DVI one it sounds like he's running a single-link connection which cannot handle 120Hz signals (not enough bandwidth). Because one monitor is limited to 60Hz, they all get limited in eyefinity.
I know what you're talking about and no, there is no option to change it. When you setup an eyefinity group, the computer no longer sees separate monitors... they only see one.
I really have to ask you, how can you afford all of this? :) Seems really expensive to a newbie like I.
What are you doing with the old BenQs? I will gladly take a debezled BenQ off your hands if you don't have any use for them anymore
Don't think i'm going to sell them since they can't really be shipped safely... i wouldn't really trust any carriers.
Upvote for being an honest dude and not just shipping them and having someone else deal with the aftermath of a shitty carrier.
