Work Station - Computer Setup

Yeah I know, but to get the angle I would need, the stands have to be a lot further forward and that means that my door won't open...
I'd definitely say some sort of sacrifice is going to have to be made. Optimal monitor positioning and acoustic treatments are essential if you are doing any semi-serious audio production or monitoring.
Thanks man. Yeah I am considering basically having them above my outer monitors and aim them down a bit with some angled isolation pads. But this will mean designing and getting someone to fabricate some new stands for me which will take a lot of time
Ugh, that sucks man. I see that you have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and Rokit 8s. I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 and Rokit 6s myself. How do you like them? I got the 6s planning on upgrading later but just never did.
No I don't make music. I just appreciate good quality sound. I don't know a whole lot about audio, but I had seen a lot of setups with various models of KRK's and came across a pair of 8's ridiculously cheap and couldn't help myself.
The 8s definitely have more lower end to them. Thankfully I have a subwoofer to supplement the lack of it in the 6s. Plus I'm in an apartment so I really don't get to turn up the bass much. :\
That sucks! I'm in a detached house so I can have all the bass I want :p
I'll be honest with you, I'm currently using the sub from the Logitech x-230s. Just something I had laying around. Might not be the best thing in the world but it helps with the sub bass.
I'm in the same boat as you, I have Rokit 8's as well but the previous version (less round, all wood construction). I don't make music, I just like speakers that pound at my PC. :) I bought the matching sub, but I had to return it later the same week because it was just too loud. Even with the knob at the first click on the back of the sub it was too much for an apartment.
I don't know how you utilize your screens but if you made one portrait, you'd save enough horizontal space to space the speakers correctly.
Don't sweat it. I can personally say that 90% of the time you won't find optimal referencing positions at home. There are too many things to factor in like the dimensions of the room for acoustics, space for proper placement and so much more.
I'd switch the hinge of the door to the otherside so I could reposition the speakers to be at the perfect angle. It'd be easier than getting more stands fabricated.
Came in here to say this as well. With something as nice as a pair of Rokits, you need to at least take minor steps that can drastically increase the quality of your acoustic environment. An equilateral triangle between your ears and the tweeters is best. Even if you have to adjust this triangle to make the monitors fit outside your door, I would still do it.
Man I love the wall panels, that a sweet idea.
Sweet setup. Where did you get that desk?
It looks like the desk and dresser are both from Ikea.
Bet his Malm got it for him
Too bad you don't have a chair with that dope setup man. My life has only looked up after getting a chair for my desk. :)
Wow that's a wallpaper and a half, so colorful
Ok I have to ask, what is that thing under the monitors, in front of the mouse?
Looks like a Focusrite Scarlett. Audio interface for recording stuff.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2 In/2 Out USB Recording Audio Interface
What does it do when you record something?
You can plug guitars, microphones into them. Anything with a JACK or XLR connection.
Thank you very much for explaining that!
Hard to see, but it could be a mini-amplifier for the speakers through which hes running the audio, or a fan controller. Probably audio though.
You have one of the best backgrounds i have ever seen.
What is on the wall just paint or is it a sound deadening material? Great look!
Its just a wallpaper. It has a leather effect and the squares are just where the stitching is between each piece. It is very thick though so it probably works very well for sound deadening.
What (audio) monitors are those?
KRK Rokit 8 Gen 2
I have the same ones and what I think are the same stands. However after putting the speakers on the stands they felt way too unstable. Did you do anything else to make them more stable?
Yeah, IKEA Malm. I was majorly impressed with the quality considering how cheap it was.
Where did you get those monitor stands?
EBay. They are Gorilla GSM-100 stands, but I wouldn't recommend them. You have to screw the stand to the base and the threads were welded really poorly on mine and because of this both stands are leaning quite significantly.
Oh I see, are there others that you would recommend instead then?
Couldn't say. They are the first I have had. I used to just have the Rokits on my desk.
How are the monitors?
Very nice! I used to run a 32" TV on my setup and just one of these monitors is infinitely better. The colour balance is a little off out of the box, but this can be fixed fairly easily.
Im in the same situation! (32 Sony tv). Are they IPS? What's the refresh rate? Sorry if I'm asking too much.
No, they are not IPS. They are 60hz if I remember correctly. Considering you are in the same position as I was, I would say go for it. It is a very well priced and well spec'd monitor. I can't even explain how much better it is than the TV!
Great step up! I love your backgrounds!
That wallpaper is right up my alley. If you could share it, that would be awesome :)
I am starting to think I am the only person in the world still using 1 monitor :P
Defiantly a worth while upgrade. Now I just need to invest in some real graphics firepower so I can go for max settings.
How has your experience using a multi-gpu solution been?
It was a bit of a headache to get setup over the triple monitors but not had many problems.
Thanks, I was curious because I am considering a multi-you solution as well. Based on your experience about how long do decent drivers come out for multi-gpu solutions after a game launches?
I don't know for sure but I would say very popular games would usually have them on release day or very soon after. I just know it took a good few weeks for the sleeping dogs drivers to come out, at which point I had completely lost interest in the game...
Good color carpet for fapping
Nice table, man. i myself am going to get the malm desk, but with the pullout panel.
Upvote for having the same Ikea drawer and tv setup as I do!
What i liked most about your setup was your black wall!!
Great setup, I think a few others have commented about your speaker placement but yea, you'll get so much more out of them if you have them in an equilateral triangle with your head. Like you said I think they would need to be above your two outer screens (pointing down slightly) because bringing them forward and having a really steep toe in angle (practically facing each other) is probably worse. You can buy wall brackets, just make sure your wall is solid. I doubt pasterboard woukd hold them :P. Its good to see a gaming setup that considers sound too. Most are all just screen screen screens!
Thought you had a dumb poster then realized it was three monitors, nice.
