Computer Setup

Hey I've always wondered something. I see those diamond foam shapes on the walls a lot in gaming setup rooms for sound proofing I assume. I always thought that most of the wall if not all of it had to be covered with foam to make a significant difference in sound proofing. Does just having a couple of these diamond shapes really help that much? This station has more foam on the walls but I've seen others with a lot less.
The foam is more for controlling the sound that bounces around the room rather than actually sound proofing. But it would help with sound proofing to a degree. If you go into a room and clap once, you will probably here "flutter echo" which are the sound waves reflecting and bouncing off all the walls.
Don't apologize, it was much appreciated.
Just remember, if you make a room too dead it can make people uncomfortable. People often forget about the white noise around them until it's gone and it can really freak some people out if they're in there too long. The full soundproof rooms are usually reserved for voice over booths. Going beyond that, anechoic chambers, usually <10dBA, are used for measuring and analyzing loudspeakers.
Definitely agree. Making a room too dead when it's not needed feels like it sucks the life out of the sound.
For recording music, mainly spoken word vocals, what kind of sound proofing would be best?
As AshamedGorilla already said, it's different for music and vocals. Vocals are usually recorded in a small booth that doesn't allow any resonance. For instruments it depends, really. You either have big rooms for orchestras that allow for more or less resonance, or smaller studios that are redevided in several booths for different instruments. It's even possible that studios have walls that have exchangable material on it. So if you want more resonance you can mount plates on the walls and if you want less you go for a diffusers. Of course you can also just record without any resonance and add reverb later on.
A lot of people are telling you to make your own sort of isolation booth, and I'm not really sure why. What you're looking for isn't soundproofing - that's basically impossible without a lot of concrete and empty space. Acoustic treatment usually focuses on making a room sound more neutral, and even then, usually you don't want you room completely deadened.
Oh no need to apologize. That's the kind of answer I was looking for. Thanks! I will probably invest in some foam soon.
I think I would just get some of these so my room looks about 40% more professional.
That one guy that was up here a few days ago had the best looking design. It looked really nice.
Oh which one? could you link me to the one you're referring to?
He had over 1k bookmarks. I'm playing on the mareo CS server right now and don't have time to look it up. I think I commented on that post I talked about.
That is probably the most bad ass mouse I've ever seen. But my question is, how can something that angular and disjointed be comfortable? Is it really that ergonomic?
I was thinking the same thing. But once you get it adjusted just how you like it (comes with different palm rests and pinky rests), it fits your hand perfectly. Has a lot of adjustment/weight options.
On the topic of the RAT mouse. Do you have the horizontal scroll wheel bound to anything? I set mine to scroll through tabs(Control + Tab and Control + Shift + Tab). Just thought I'd recommend it after enjoying it so much.
I may consider this. 3 years with my rat 9 and the only use I've had for it was for my minecraft inventory.
I have the exact same one, and I can confirm it's comfortable as hell. You can make it wider and longer according to how big your hands are if you wish, but everything's designed to fit your hand perfectly.
Man, I've got a fully decked out 650D but I can't help but feel incredibly jealous looking at the 600T.
Not at all! send me your old one
My favorite part was the music stuff (not because the computer is bad but I like to record)
The only sad thing is that I haven't used the music stuff for quite a while because I've been doing nothing but gaming recently. :(
Hello fellow Square Kickstarter backer!
Yeah I love that thing!
Amazing Setup! How much did you spent on that? ;)
Thanks! Not sure how much exactly. Didn't get it all at once that's for sure! Just slowly getting things here and there as I could.
Looks awesome. How exactly did you do the lighting?
I see that board in the corner!
Was wondering if someone would notice! The trucks are only on there temporarily. I usually have them on my EW Supermodel.
The tower looks great! :)
Beautiful setup! What speakers are those? Also, where do you buy that sound foam? Did you get it online?
The two on top are Yamaha HS80M's and the sub is a KRK10
Yes or no on the HS80M's, I heard they were very clear but that was all the good i heard of them.
Just chiming in to say not to waste your money on acoustic foam. It's no better than something you'd get at a foam shop, but that Auralex logo adds a lot to the price. If you're looking for cheap absorbers, wrap some Safe'n'Sound in fabric and stick it on the wall.
Oh god, I feel like I could stare at that PC forever.
Where did you bought the table?
Yamaha HS50M bros! But those might be the 8" version. I can't tell.
You actually did a REALLY good job routing the cables in your case. Shame that window is so small, your case is so well organized you could show the whole thing off!
Nice rig man, I'm in the process of building a Hackintosh myself.
I got lucky and the place where I work happen to be getting rid of it because it was missing pieces. So I snagged that sucker and had to cut some of it to make it work. I'll see what info I can get.
What is that beautiful case?
More like, where you dream about getting away but never actually do...
What desk is that? I'm in the market for a new one and that looks great.
Holy shit man nice job im jealous
Very nice.I have the same case,I used to switch cases every few months but when I switched to my corsair I haven't wanted to change it for over a year.
Disorganized? That's one of the cleanest setups I've seen on this sub coolcomputersetups. Barely any cables are visible for one thing.
Are you recording from your tower or the laptop?
I like this OP. into the music/gaming thing as well. will post pics once my room is decent. how's that android mouse?
Where did you get those lights? Love the lighting in the case.
Have you tried to play tf2? I also have the evga 660ti and I couldn't figure it out but it just would run correctly.
Nice rig! The lighting with the NZXT Hue looks amazing! I would like to ask you where did you stick the LED Strip in your case? I'm struggling to figure out where to put mine
Your office looks strikingly similar to to that of Keith Merrow.
A fellow Hackintosh builder! Love your setup.
Gaah Razer Blackwidow keyboard. I have the 2012 version, the one that's blue and glossy so it gets covered with smudges. Oh well, it's still a great keyboard.
Nice. Upvote for what appears to be a Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Is that a jar of bud on the floor?
I've got the same mouse! I hate how it doesn't match anything else I own except my speakers, but I got it brand new for £30 so I'm not complaining.
