I am so freaking curious about the actual hardware in the picture. The computer just looks so awesome.
Wow quad 7970s? Nicely done
Easily one of the best-looking setups I've seen here. Love the brick, too!
The way it covers up those pictures would drive me nucking futs
$550 each in early 2012. Like I said, for some reason Samsung discontinued them last year. They are TN panels (because of the 120hz refresh), but they calibrate ruler flat, have great off axis viewing, and have a reasonable gamut (per calibration and profiling with an X-Rite i1 Display).
You seem like you really know your monitors, what would you recommend that that is similar?
edit: I would also like to know what the little knob thing to the left of your keyboard is.
It honestly depends on your use case. One thing I didn't like about these panels is that they have no VESA mount. It's the reason I had to build the shelf - the monitors sat too low in relation to my keyboard without it. That's one mistake I wouldn't make again, having the ability to mount these properly would have saved me a ton of headaches.
Thanks, hope you didn't mind.
Never, being correct is something I do :D Typos shall not stand!
Hmm, seems very impressive. Just recently I ordered my self the new H236HL bid made by "Acer" really loving the IPS Panel even though it is 60 Hz. I really do enjoy
How's the reflection? I'm thinking of getting a glossy monitor but I'm just worried about the light.
The room has fairly good light control so it's not an issue. If I had a window to my back I'd reconsider, but otherwise glossy is fine.
Damn, I have one to the left and two behind me :l
Wow, this a really cool setup. Is that the basement of your house? I'm trying to picture where this is located? That brick is awesome.
It's the ground floor of a 100+ year old school building converted into condos. The brick is something like 75% of the walls in our space.
As a photographer who loves using brick walls in natural light, consider me envious.
Awesome setup! I've been eyeballing the GeekBench max for awhile. I see your tower on the side; is it much of an issue for the cables going up/down? Or did you tidy everything up in the standing position and it sort of took care of itself when you lowered the desk? How much do you find yourself using the standing position?
This is one of the most impressive systems I have seen here (total work). Well done sir.
This is one of my favorite ones thus far, and I've visited this sub for quite some time. I particularly like the simplicity and also the idea for making those James Bond panels (I read your link below). My "mancave" will inevitably get something similar, so I thank you for that.
Love the Fanatec Clubsport wheel! Excellent setup. Do you have the F1 wheel rim too, or just the BMW one?
Just the BMW, waiting until I get good enough on iRacing before I bother with open wheel. Also, the Clubsport Shifter is begging me to buy it on release :D
How do you like the Max?
I like it. The frame is pretty solid, no slop in the movement, and it was easy to assemble with clear instructions. I've only had the desk for a little over a month, but no problems so far and I'd buy another one.
Thanks, I had pretty much settled on it, but it's nice to get some feedback.
Were there other desks you were considering?
An initial Google search yielded a lot of options in the market. GeekDesk had a good story to tell and made ordering from them easy, along with offering the stand without a top. A lot of the other options required going through the dealer channel which I'd rather avoid, as pricing isn't as transparent and support often wouldn't be direct. They just seemed to be a little more engineer friendly, and they had the right product.
I looked at pretty much everything I could find through the following search:
I take it you're an IT professional by day?
That would be correct. Is my nerd showing?
Maybe a little. I shouldn't say much...I recognized all those acronyms.
I like that rack you have on casters on the floor. Any info on it?
More info on the equipment to the left of the desk? Looks pretty high end/intense.
Your center channel, being just off center, is driving me crazy due to how nice and clean everything else looks...
You have no idea how much spinning of mental wheels went into worrying about that. The monitors stands are integrated, and I just couldn't find a speaker that would fit anywhere useful, and I didn't want a speaker hanging from the top of my center monitor (the webcam is bad enough).
What server racks are those? I've been looking for some to replace my home made ones for a while now.
Did you make those stands underneath the monitor yourself? I've been looking for something like that, as I have a glass desk it's hard to find a mount for monitors.
