Strange placement of the tower there, but nice build.
"Brave" placement of the tower there
Nice touch with the miniature PC-stripperpole!
I'm not worried about the stability of the PC, but I immediately thought "what if you want a wider case in the future?".
Hah; that is a genuine problem. It's definitely tight up there as is.
Nice framed oblivion map, +1.
Immediately to the right of it is a framed copy of the Skyrim map, a framed copy of the Morrowind map, and.... an AK47. =)
Did you get the frames custom made? I've been looking for the right sizes forever.
Yeah, I measured out the maps and ordered custom frame sizes. I can't for the life of me remember what website I ordered mine from though. There are a lot of companies that you can get custom frames from. Unfortunately they are kind of costly.
That looks great. I guess I'll just have to order mine. Thanks.
Nice setup, dude. Also, I have the exact same chair. Comfy.
I like how cozy it feels.
Love the raised tower stand. I always wanted something like this but never got around to building something that felt like it could safely support it.
While I know heat rises and it's probably warmer up there than it would be on the ground, it doesn't collect near as much dust as PC's that I've had lower to the ground in the past; so that's a positive. Also it looks cool; IMHO.
I felt like the temperature differential floor to ceiling would be quite negligible so I tried googling for a paper or something on it (unsuccessful) but I ended up resorting to this forumn post that seems like these people concluded it was negligible (like 0.3 K, according to one poster)
Awesome! Far more research than I put into it, hah. I just went with it.
We can both wait on this to turn something useful up I suppose, haha
This will be interesting. I suppose the easiest way would be to place two thermometers in the room, one at floor level and one near the ceiling. It will be cool to see what the thermodynamics says though.
Haha, true. This is the theorist in me, when a very simple experiment would probably be both simpler and more useful for you, as the experimental error might be smaller than the approximation errors in a theoretical result which ignores your body heat, the room shape and air flows, etc.
Yeah; I definitely understand that mentality though. I majored in civil/architectural engineering so I have a desire for that same type of data as well.
Can I get a link to the wallpaper on the left?
In which image, the first or the second?
Ah, ok; lol... not sure why I read right instead of left. I have like 1000+ wallpapers on rotate so bear with me while I search for it.
Yeah i edited it, lol. Thanks a lot!
As someone who lives in California (earthquakes) this makes me paranoid.
Hah; I live in West Virginia, so no active fault lines close enough for that worry.
I'm sure the New Madrid would like to have a word with you, but if that goes we have more to worry about than your PC. I live in West Tennessee. PLS New Madrid. No quakes till I die.
I knew there was a fault line somewhere around here; those Appalachian Mountains had to come from somewhere. I just didn't think it was classified as active.
West Virginia can build PC's? ;) lol
Just barely! We wear shoes too!
Likin the 280z my friend
I went through two Corsair CX power supplies before I moved to seasonic, hopefully you won't have the same "luck".
Yeah; I hope that I don't have to go through that either. I thought Corsair was a pretty reputable manufacturer.
I learned a thing or two about their PSU manufacturing since. Unlike a variety of their products (which i absolutely adore) the PSU's from Corsair aren't actually built by Corsair. The CX i'm unsure of, but as for the AX and TX (Maybe HX) are all manufactured by Seasonic. After losing two CX's and finally finding out that stipulation I decided to go straight to the OEM, my X-850 has been a beast since. Sweet build though man!
Good information to know; hopefully I have better luck than you did. Thanks =)
Is that the CM storm trigger? I have that keyboard and it's awesome!
Yep, it is indeed. Cherry Red switches; love it.
I have red switches as well. I can't use mine without the wrist rest.
If my chair sat a little higher up I would use the wrist rest too; but where I am down so low it actually makes it more uncomfortable.
Very Nice. Clean. Stock 3.4Ghz or OC'd?
Stock at the moment, I plan on overclocking it as it ages and I need a little more oomph.
I also have mine at the 3.4Ghz. I want to overclock it to 4.0Ghz (or so).. but I've never OC'd so I'm a bit unsure where to start. :/
I don't know much about it right now, but we have the internet at our fingertips! There are countless guides out there that should be able to get you started. That's how I plan on doing it once I decide too.
I've been reading about different steps people take to OC their 3570K CPU's.. So many different guides tho.
I've got a 3570k, ASrock z77 extreme 4, and a Phantek Air Cooler. I pretty much just upped the multiplier(since it's unlocked, you can increase it) 1 or two numbers at a time. Started at 34, then 36, 38, 39, ect. whenever you increase it, run a prime95 test or intel burn test. It'll strain your CPU and if it's not getting enough voltage it'll crash. I found that if it was going to crash it was going to be pretty early on in the test, but feel free to run it as long as you like. Once you're satisfied that it's stable, reboot, up the multiplier, and rerun the test. Once it finally crashes (probably around 39-40 will be the first time) then you need to up the voltage. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO INCREASE IT TOO MUCH. Once you go past a certain point you can mess your CPU up. I want to say it's around 1.35V but I'd look it up first. Take the voltage up by small amounts until, once again, you are confident that it won't crash during a test. Keep doing this until your system is either: A - running too hot, then back it off a little, B - The voltage is getting too high for your comfort zone(for a side note I'm at 4.5GHz, 1.288V), or C - You're satisfied with your OC.
As with everything the only way you're going to learn is to educate yourself as much as possible then dive on in. Wished I could be of help but I haven't started that journey yet.
I have the same chair. It's ok. Did you use B7 rod? Does normal threaded rod actually hold that much weight up?
To be honest, I am not sure if it's a B7 rod or not. I just purchased a all-threaded rod. I believe it's 1/2" in diameter. It hasn't shown any signs of backing out or stripping; I am confident in it, not to mention it's stood the test of time for 3-4 years so far.
1/2" is probably good no matter what, just because of the diameter. B7 is usually a darker tint and the lower is just a silver zinc coating in my experience.
It's definitely got some beefy threads on it; it isn't fine threaded. It doesn't appear to be zinc coated, but I may be wrong.
Your cable management looks superb, don't short yourself my friend.
You went with a 750W with sli 660's? You may want a 1000 pretty soon, especially for that headroom. Nice station.
Descriptions are in the captions on coolcomputersetups.
So how do you like that keyboard, ive been looking at getting it soon.
I was honestly skeptical about mechanical keyboards never having had the opportunity to use them. After I gamed/typed on that thing for an hour or so I was blown away by the difference. If you don't have a mechanical keyboard I would highly recommend it. Read up on the difference each color switch does so you can try to get one you'd prefer the most.
How are you liking the dual 660s? I've got an Evga 660ti SC right now with a killer overclock, how are two holding up? What's the power consumption like? Any problems worth noting? Thanks.
Hopefully I will remember to get back with you after I've had more time to put them through their paces because I just installed them the day before. The only thing I noticed so far is they're running a little hotter (I'm guessing because they're so close together). So I ordered a few more 120mm fans for my case to try to get a little more CFM rolling through there.
Just figured I would call out everything in the picture. Although I did leave out the thermometer, lol. I know it's kind of cheesy.
