There should be no problem. There's absolutely no way that the computer can get to the auto-ignition point of cardboard. Not sure of the exact number, but paper's auto-ignition is at 450C, and cardboard's is much higher if I recall correctly.
I hate to nitpick, but you were so close... papers auto-ignition is 450F
Fahrenheit 451. I could've sworn coolcomputersetups had a huge hard on for Ray Bradbury.
Turns out not everyone on Coolcomputersetups is the same person.
No really its true! I've seen it with our own eyes
You just blew my mind. I never put two and two together.
It looks to be 233C, 451F.
The footnote states that is can vary due to different thicknesses/grades/type of paper. Why it isn't listed 218C-450C is beyond me.
To be fair to everyone if paper has a point of 218C, then it's obvious that everything above it would make it combust as well, yes? But yeah, I'm throwing my hat in with 218C just because no one is allowed to sit on the fence on coolcomputersetups.
There's a reason the famous book is titled "Fahrenheit 451."
Fahrenheit 451 is the temp paper burns at, not spontaneously combusts.
It's the dust you have to worry about catching or shorting things out, and when the problem does start, you have no external protection from it...
You won't hear of the fire because his computer will be destroyed.
I did this also like 8 years ago, lasted about 7 years before I threw it away and never seemed to be much of a fire hazard honestly. Because it was so open, dust never seemed to build up either which was pretty cool.
Came here to post this
What did you upgrade from, a wet burlap sack!?
That at least would have slightly mitigated the fire hazard!
But increased the risk of electrocution. I'm unsure if that makes this an upgrade or a downgrade... maybe it's just a grade.
I thought this was shittygaming setups and was ready to comment "you can afford a mobo with usb 3.0, an aftermarket CPU cooler and a GPU with 2 DVI slots and HDMI but not a case?".
Don't most GPU's have dual DVI outputs now?
I have one DVI, one HDMI and 2 (mini?)display ports. I have a Radeon HD 7950
Yes they are mini display ports. Same card and I'm okay with only one DVI and having to just get adapters. The adapters were like 6 bucks each
Where do you find active mini-DP to DVI adapters for 6 bucks?? They're like $70 over here.
How is the performance on that sucker i want to pick one up when i can afford it.
I get 60 fps at ultra on almost all my games, save for metro and bioshock.
Not having dual-link DVI is so frustrating, though. Having to buy an active adapter for each 1440p monitor is annoying.
Yeah. Display port is slowly but surely phasing out dvi.
I have 1 DVI 1 HDMI 1HDMI mini. I have a Gigabyte 7870.
The dual DVI, HDMI, and two mini DisplayPort configuration is pretty standard for the 6870 which I have. DisplayPort is nice, but I'd really like to see a card with three or four dual link DVI connectors though.
I just use HDMI. I wish I had dual HDMI honestly.
My HD 7990 only have 1 dvi and 5 mini displays
I actually have a few cases, but I really wanted the computer to fit into that shelf. I figured I'd make a quick cardboard case before I look into building something out of wood or metal.
If you go wood please follow up
I second spicycurry1, please follow up with your custom non-cardboard case!
Make sure to keep this next to the oily rags and leaky gas cans...
What the fuck kind of house do you live in?
A house that has oily rags and leaky gas cans.
I'll take "Fire Hazard" for 300, Alex.
He said Alex, you really are mindless.
This might be a credit sinkhole... let me try something...
This is literally just 2 guys sharing porn now. I think they forgot what they were supposed to be doing.
Don't forget radiation hazard. Cases are metal cages for a reason.
Sorry, but you're wrong. Computers are made with tiny components that are fairly sensitive to electromagnetic radiation. However, they produce very little. Go research it yourself if you don't believe me; I'm lazy.
Hey buddy. Google "do computers produce radiation". Tell us all what you found in the first 5 five results. Then rant about how they're all wrong for some reason.
Yo dude, i dont really care about some random coolcomputersetupsor being too dumb and/or having failed his physics class.
Yo dude, I could say the same thing.
HUNDREDS OF MHZ... SEVERAL OF THEM!
You ever seen a post of something that shorted out? Instead of a damaged motherboard, you have a burnt down house. Get a real case immediately.
He probably has at least one real case handy, and did this because it's "funny".
Blue LED fans are scientifically proven to cool your computer more than regular fans, because they're blue, and blue means cold.
Red LED fans speed your computer up, as do 'go-faster' stripes on your case.
That is very correct, and you have to keep in mind that green LEDs makes it run more energy efficient.
Time to add some LED fans
Only you can prevent forest fires
What did you upgrade from? A plastic bag?
Because it'll generate a conversation about the possible flammability of cardboard, or the amount of dust particles that will be caught, in a "fun" and "amusing" way. (which I'll admit I found it stupidly amusing)
I understood that reference
Please buy a cheap case such as a Core 3000 and get that out of that fire hazard. Please.
Cable management!!! Seriously, you buy a nice case and waste its potential with this shoddy piece of work.... I for one am disappointed.
If OP doesn't post anything in the next week, we will know what happened.
*depressed to say the least.
Lol, bought it from monoprice.
I seriously bought a case for $15. Why are you doing this to yourself?
Oddly enough the shipping on the box was just under $20(some monitor stands from Monoprice.)
Can somebody please get this motherfucker a case.
Why are people bookmarking this?
That's an upgrade? what did it look like before?!? price of cheap case definitely worth the time you spent haha.
That's some classic Largo stuff right there.
How is Liberia this time of year?
Not a good idea to use cardboard as a tower. Since cardboard can absorb more heat, it could overheat those computer parts.
Yep, you definitely live on your own. I know if I lived with my parents they would throw that thing away immediately.
Beautiful! What did you have before?
Can we see the original case though?
Not a fire hazard as I doubt it can produce enough heat to start a fire, but go and see the accumulated dust in a month or two.
You're exposing so much of your computer to static electricity. That cardboard is a very expensive liability. Just buy a case for like 15$ man..
You sure you don't work for alienware?
Everything from monoprice is awesome. even the packaging!
Seriously, how's the cooling in this?
I saw the cardboard in the first picture, and I was really hoping that you would cut out a hole on one side and cover it in plastic wrap.
You can get a computer case for under $20 and youre spending hundreds of dollars on parts, why would anyone do this? credit?
Everyone is saying fire hazard, and my first though was that it must be nice not to deal with screws.
+1 for all the rustled jimmies in the comments.
Make sure you don't leave that somewhere by accident. I can see how it might be... misinterpreted.
I know what you mean. I ordered my case and this weird metallic cube with slots was in it. Thats how they get you with high shipping cost
What's funny is that in french, a computer case is called a "boƮte" (which means "box")...
All I can think of is: of all the boxes in the world to choose from, why pick one without carrying handles?
Bro, try blue LEDS to make it cooler. It helps prevents overheat and fires.
LoL. I spit all over my screen when I saw this. Funny stuff. Unfortunately cardboard is a good insulator which isn't good for getting rid of the heat your computer produces.
That's okay - he can liquid cool it. That's goes well with cardboard, right?
The amount of people taking this seriously is too d- fuck it, you've probably already noticed.
