The desktop itself is constructed out of MDF painted and finished with polycrylic for waterproofing. The two drawers are fully articulating trays (I added additional screw holes and contact cemented the mount portion of the trays - was worried about screws pulling out of the MDF as the tray arms are shockingly heavy). It doesn't look it, but it's just over 8 feet long - a big upgrade from the plastic banquet table we've been using for years.
Sweet desk. What kind of paint and sealer did you use on the mdf? Did the mdf have a vinyl cover on the top or was it pure mdf? Did you go 1/2 or 3/ inch?
Thanks! MDF is 3/4 inch. I painted it with latex paint + primer 2 in 1 - it was lazy but it rolled on great. I gave it 3 coats of that top and bottom. Then I used Minwax Polycrylic to finish it off - the bottom got two coats of that for waterproofing and the top ended up with five coats sanded in between to give it a nice finish. The MDF is a $30 slab of pure MDF - no laminate.
Nice thanks for the info.
Do you have any links for further information on assembling furniture with fence post / "speed rail" fittings?
Simplified Living has a ton of different plans for creating things with this type of setup. The plans I based my own design off of are here:
Sweet desk! Looks like an awesome setup where much gaming is accomplished. :p
God damn I am jealous.
That yellow wall..... well I can see you projected your love for bananas unto it.
Yeaaaa... my niece even volunteered to paint it for me to 'fix it.' The trim is absolutely trashed after being painted sloppily a half dozen times - so I've kind of put off 'fixing' the walls until I feel like spending the money to re-trim it as well.
Nice SG, you got any others hanging on the wall there?
Thanks! I also have an Ovation 1778t elite blue flame edition that I sortof love and sortof hate (I lean towards hate with it most of the time). Do you play?
I saw one of those at the store the other day. They are really cool.
What is at the bottom of your side of the computer setup? Some sort of foot rest?
Yup, a simple plastic articulating foot rest (you'd be shocked how much better your back feels after sitting all day at work when you can keep your feet firmly at the right height).
Sounds intriguing. Do you recommend yours? It seems like something I'd give a go.
I... I don't understand the request. Sometimes the lady performs black magic on the bed if we're having company and it looks slightly nicer, but then when I go to lie down at night I need to struggle against what feels like nineteen things tucked in. I only sleep with one blanket, how does that even work? /grumble
Should really consider doing some cable management.
Absolutely. I just want to let everything sit in it's position for a couple of days before I start tying everything down. I already know I want to move one of the PS4's (the one in between our two chairs, where we frequently leave our drinks - worried she'll spill something all over my PS4 :-D... she's kinda clumsy).
Well at least you have a plan. It looks great otherwise.
Wait... 2 ps4's? Fuck you. :p Nice set up though.
It feels so excessive, but damn developers hate split screen these days :(
Love the set up. But that cable situation...eye twitch
