With those 97 series motherboard the lower pci-e x16 slot actually only supports up to x4. You can squeeze a bit more out of that card if you put it in the top slot. Of course it would be at the slight expense of that super clean wire tuck. Just some food for thought
Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely move it up there and see how much that improved stuff. Can't believe I messed that up.
Its not something they advertise. The slot style is even referred to as a pci-e x16. But if you look in the motherboard book it usually will specify in the slot reference part.
Awesome. I'll change it ASAP tomorrow. Off the top of your head do you have any idea how much performance I was losing like that?
I don't see it being more than a 5-10% loss. But for some midlevel cards it makes all the difference.
Awesome! Thanks again man.
How's the PC? I've got pretty much the same thing, just with an 8320. I am trying to upgrade to the 760.
The whole thing runs great! I love it. The 760 is so worth it. I have mine oc'd really well and I'm only off a 770 by about 5% in benchmarks.
What ram are you using?
I'm using 8 gigs of g skill sniper at 1866 MHz. The fx 6300 runs great too! I have a really nice 4.4 ghz oc on it when I need it, and all the other time I run it at 6350 specs (3.9 w/o turbo). I haven't found a game that the fx limits me on. I do wish I could have sprung for an i5-3570k but it just wasn't in my budget w/o having to go for a lower end gpu. I built the whole thing for 620 with operating system so no complaints :)
