I don't underestimate the impact of a good DAC, but it seems silly to spending almost as much on a DAC ($169) as your speakers ($199). It might be a good idea to get something like the Schiit Modi ($99) and spend the saved money on an Audioengine A2+ ($249), or even A5.
Yeah, I was thinking of getting the A2+'s, thank you for the recommendation about the DAC's.
Those are $40 speakers man.
Whats that monitor stand ?
The piece of wood on top of the desk? I made that out of 2 2x8's and some wooden dowels for the legs.
I don't recommend the M50xs unless you REALLY want the detachable cable. You can get the M50s which have the exact same sound for around $100.
The legs are from IKEA, the top is one I made from a piece of birch plywood and some pine for the border.

I have two of those monitors and I also found that VESA solution, but was iffy about it.
And it was never that clean again.
