I work in a shop that produces stone countertops. I am heading back to school in Sept and decided I wanted to make a computer desk that will remind me of the good times I had working here and will probably last me the rest of my life.
I've wanted a marble desk similar to that for a while. How much does something like that cost? What would be the high-end price range for the best marble, as well as the lowe end? Any info would be great!
Don't get marble, it's very beautiful but completely impractical as a working surface. Sadly it chips and scratches easy as it's made of very soft "stone", it's also porous so it stains easily. It's really only suitable for decorative pieces or something like a low use vanity top. The reason it's so soft is because marble isn't stone (ie igneous quartz) it's actually just sediment from the bottom of an ancient river that's been compressed into a solid.
