Computer Setup

Comments

I've wanted an eGPU gaming setup before I got my current laptop, but I wasn't sure about the costs due to the newer laptops coming out with thunderbolt and how that would affect it, or work with it.
Intel refuses to sanction it over Thunderbolt (which is a shame because it'd be fucking awesome). You can get Thunderbolt to ExpressCard 2.0 adapters though and then do it that way, but I'm not sure about compatibility. I know it's apparently possible with the newer rMBPs, which is pretty cool as far as an ultra powerful workstation goes.
Details on the egpu please.
It's all unofficial, Intel refuses to allow eGPU through Thunderbolt or sanction it through any other means.
Thanks for the indept answear!. thats realy shitty of intel to do, but i dont think they will be able to do so for very loong. msi and a few others had prototypes at CES and a few exsisting ones but they are mostly only supported my apple products / thunderbolt.
That's probably what they're afraid of, it would cannibalise the desktop PC market. Same reason I reckon they nerfed Haswell and didn't release mid-power laptop CPUs. There's no equivalent to my i5-520m in the Haswell laptop range, my understanding is they only do ULV parts now.
