Computer Setup

Comments

Looks fairly clean compared to mine.
Here's mine, more of a battle command center than a station since it's spread out so much:
Is that the harbor freight workbench? If so, how is it?
It's pretty good. It's sturdy, has drawers, and generally does well as a workbench. The vise on the side isn't great but it's made out of wood, does the job if you're holding big pieces but not great for small ones (which is mostly what I use it for). Considering you can get it on sale with a coupon for pretty cheap I'd say go for it. The drawers don't come out all the way which is kind of annoying too. I mostly use it for my soldering/PCB making work and use my other bench I built myself for the other tools.
Thanks! I have been on the fence about it for awhile, so good to hear that it could handle the basic applications.
I wouldnt have a girlfriend anymore if i had your gaming setup
TIL k&n makes ac recharging stuff too.
The "recharger" is to wash ad re-oil K&N filters.
If I could give you gold for the skateboard mixed with the computers I would.
So instead, have a bunch of comments!
Thanks! Was another project. Making ice skates into roller blades.
Nice. I need something like that for myself. - Because changing PC parts on a leather couch is kind of dumb.
Thanks for the tip! I haven't much space, so I have to figure out where to put it. But now while I think about it... I guess I start a little project next weekend.
Thanks! This is in a spare bedroom in a townhouse. I made it for the dimensions to fit. You can too.
Cool! Will try it out!
Better than my friend who did it on shag carpet (and kept wondering why newegg shipped him defective parts)
Dude I told him over and over about static and not to do it, he wouldn't listen it's his own fault.
What is the benchtop made out of?
Looks like hardboard. It's a good choice because it's fairly durable, protects the wood underneath, and cheap to replace when it gets damaged.
Link below is pretty close. Super cheap. I used a large amount of panel nails to cover 2 pieces of 1" plywood that are wood glued together.
I almost thought it was a granite block until I saw the nails.
What do you use it for? I'm morbidly curious.
Man, third time this week.
Haha, and I thought I was all clever and original and shit.
Not sure about op, but i used mine for DIY project instructions. dont need to print and shuffle a bunch of pages, and if theres something missing or something i dont understand, i can just google it.
Workbench was all custom made by my father in law and I. It cost roughly $100 in lumber, light fixture, and misc pieces.
First thing I looked for was the soldering iron. Did not disappoint.
I would be afraid that I would drop a hammer or something on the keyboard.
I only use the hammer when trying to put a CPU into a motherboard.
This is my RAM installation aperatus.
Thats a really nice bench top
What size are those extra monitors?
I still have that same Dell dimension e series desktop too, only retired get about a month ago. Love the setup.
I actually REALLY like this
While this is good advice, this doesn't look like a "woodworking shop" that would require that kind of extra care. Notice the tools are all pretty standard pliers and screwdrivers. It's also carpeted and in what looks like a small den room. I highly doubt this would end up being much different than a case in a normal bedroom.
Welp you got me. In my haste to be useful I forgot how to be useful. Thanks!
Still good advice. tonytroz has it right though. Not much loose debris going on! lol Good to know for future reference though. I plan to have one in my garage ... when I have a garage.
Me too! I can't wait until that day comes. It'll be years, so by that time a fanless design will be about as powerful as my current (4-year-old, but beastly) laptop.
Upgrade your cable modem! the speeds they burnnnnnn
It's funny you say that. I looked into paying for my own since this one was ISP provided (no monthly rental) but it wouldn't make much of a difference based on the research I did. My current plan is 15 mbps down, 5 mbps up.
True for that level of speed you don't really need to upgrade your modem. I just hope it is not one of the first series which is that 5100 as its only a docsis 2.0 and wont be ipv6 ready.
Nice, I want something like this too but don't have enough room for it.
This is really nice! I've been starting to fix more and more computers recently, and have been dreaming of something like this to do work on, rather than my cluttered glass desk.
That comp on the bottom looks just like my old e510.
What's that board with the holes in it called?
That's just good old pegboard. You can find it at your local hardware store. I got mine at Lowe's I believe for under $15. It came in a 4' x 8' sheet and I cut it to fit.
You know what the hardest part about roller-blading is?
Telling your parents your gay lololol.
I have that wall clock!
Good thinking the damn kids or the wife will never look for you in the garage!
You should watch Adam Savage's videos on Tested's youtube channel. He does a lot of stuff in his "man cave", looks a bit like your setup.
Is that a Dell Dimension E520?
YOU ARE A GOD. I would trade my computer for room for a workspace like that.
