"3 Vertical Monitors" - Computer Setup

Comments

I was about to get worried that you were never going to upgrade the chair.
Did you also give up getting your own place?
Working on that, I'm only 22. I'm working, but just out of college.
I'm pretty sure when I'm just out of college I'll be scraping a living off grains of rice. Did you go to bruce wayne school?
Just about to ask the same question
I did... lol moving my equipment was too much work.
I don't think I could handle those very long borders from the monitors when gaming (the 3 vertical monitors).
So glad someone else said this first.
I agree. I see these vertical monitor setups more frequently now and I just can't stand them. Who wants a 1.5"+ bezel in the middle of their viewing area? Disgusting.
Mostly because I don't want my left and right sides look stretched and I find it more useful to have more vertical pixels rather than horizontal. Also vertical realestate is great for web browsing.
I debezelled my 3x23" 3D portrait setup and have a 6mm bezel gap. It's not bad at all when playing games.
How hard is this to do? im tiered of 3 inchs of black bar
It all depends on the panel. Dell panels are usually extremely easy. Pretty much anything VESA-mountable should be cake.
Aren't most screens VESA mountable nowadays though?
Some are, some aren't. At the time I purchased mine, all the best 120Hz panels weren't VESA-mountable.
Have a picture of it? This sounds beautiful.
Sure, I have a section post from a while ago.
Photos? Never seen a debezelled setup
Sure, I have a section post from a while ago.
As someone who works with a triple Lenovo monitor setup at work, your brain will actually filter out the bezel after some time. Its really weird.
I've always thought this, but in fact, the more you use that setup, the more your eyes will adjust and you actually end up not even noticing them. Not coming from experience, just what I keep hearing.
OP should debezel his monitors instead of trying to "get used to it"
I'm not trying to get used to it, I am used to it. The 3 middle monitors are too expensive for me to take them out of their cases. The 19" are out
This is what I assumed. Do you like it more in comparison, after the adjustment?
Definitely. Even though one of the 19" monitors are a different model the all look the same out of the cases.
Your 2010 rig...can i get the specs off that? im looking into building my own rig im just waiting on funds :l the bane of being 15...having to wait till my bday to 1 get a job and 2 get money xD
I was thinking about that, if its mostly for gaming, i think you could get used to it fairly quickly, i would hate it for Photoshop and 3ds max though, i prefer one big screen for the work area (30 inch 2560x1600) and a smaller one to the side, then the big one is good for gaming as well, not as much resolution as that setup, but still way better than 1080 monitors, and no bezels.
So many screens. I wouldn't even know what to put on more than 3 screens.
It's a drug. Once you have 2 monitors for a while you starting wanting another one.
On two now with a third in the other room. Taunting me. I HAVE NO MORE ROOM DAMN IT.
I have one more monitor that's just begging for use but I haven't bought another graphics card yet.
Hmm. I went from dual 23" 1080p to a single 30" 1660p. I sometimes feel I would like a couple more, but I:
This is truth - I spent 30 quid on an app to turn my ipad into a third screen for my music production setup and, in all honesty, I really don't need it at all!
Same. I'm on the fence about 3, leaning towards 2 since I can't think of what else I would do.
Three seems to make more sense as if you ever combine them (as he does) the middle of your view isn't a monitor border, it's a screen. The extra screens become more like a periphery vision.
Great way to explain it.
I would take multiple monitors over a single that is huge. Only exception is multiple 4k projectors stitched together.
If you are a programmer/webdev, you want three. One has your IDE, one has your documentation/design/etc and one has the output (browser, application, etc).
I had two for years and got by fine, but, like an insidious virus, I kept thinking "man I could really use 3 monitors right now." so I eventually got three. Love it. I then turned my TV into a dedicated monitor (since the only time I watch TV is during football season and that's only two or three days out of the week for a short period of time, during which I may not even be at home dependent on where I'm watching). Long story short, I now have two monitors, a TV, and a fourth monitor just sitting on my right. Mocking me. Daring me to find a way to use it.
If you ever find yourself with an extra computer/laptop I recommend you to look into using synergy. It will let you use the extra monitor with your current setup.
I think if I did serious number crunching or coding, 3 1660p monitors would be more than optimal. Maybe more if I was a financial trader. There's only so many screens I can look at though.
I enjoy these "evolution" type albums. Very neat. Nice gaming setup!
Do the screen borders affect gameplay? I think I would find it kind of annoying :(
No it doesn't. Eyefinity has something called bezel compensation which makes it look like you are looking threw a window rather than 3 split images.
Just a quick anecdote in case anyone is wondering. Nvidia has the same feature when you setup Surround for the first time.
Oooooooh thats pretty awesome, did not know that, but i think that the edges would distract me a lot... oh well just means i have to stick to one monitor, meaning less monies spent ;D
That's no gaming setup. That's a tanning station.
I don't even have to go outside ;)
All I can see are bezels. Isn't that distracting playing games? I like my 27". For reading i'm sure it's great though.
It's like looking threw a window to your own virtual world.
Can you explain how you connected 7 monitors to one computer?
There's 3 computers. 2, 3, 2.
Correct! I forgot to link my original thread describing my setup. I'll find it.
"The Tale of Pwnstar89 buying lots of Monitors, a Play in 64 acts"
Some picked up from the side of the road, pawn shops, slickdeals, old family members equipment. I saved where I could. Never pay full price.
I love it how all the tech is upgraded but you still used a wooden chair up until the last few screens. :-)
Pshh fuck comfort when I can have more screens :D
Half - life 2 is first game?
Haha I started gaming kind of late. No n64 growing up :(
If you haven't already, I suggest still get one now.
I bet you have a killer tan.
How do you like the monitors in portrait for gaming? I'm running triple 27s and 71 inches across gets crazy to keep track of.
I ran 3x23s and that was way too big for me. Went back to my 24" CRT.
I'll probably never go back to a horizontal eyefinity setup. Portrait gives you more pixels where you need them, much less of a stretchy look.
Looks awesome! Nice too see input devices changing too
Thank you for the trip down memory lane...oh how I missed those Full ATX Alienware-lookalike cases...
What's the purpose of huge bezels anyway? why not make monitors with no bezels?
What you did there---I did not see
If manufacturers could make panels without bezels that are cost effective, they would.
That IBM machine in the last pic.
Same case, and nice set up. So many monitors though I always thought 3 was a lot even though I use 2. But if it works congrats for you
I was hoping to inspire :)
Awesome! way too many monitors, but i like how it went from messy...to less messy :D
I was once a messy kid. I blame Lego's
What's the whiskey? (in the Garry's Mod photos)
I got it on sale for $50.
I'll trade you my 7 year old white greasy keyboard for it.
This really cool. You told a great story using pictures, and a ton of monitors.
Meanwhile on your electric bill...
I would be worried if I was able to use it as much as I'd like to use it. sadly it is off most of the day; I work 7 days a week.
7 days a week? What do you do?
Awesome setup , enjoyed the old school pictures!
I have the exact same Cool Master case as you, Love the case
Me too. Its airflow is great. Also looks pretty badass, no regrets.
I still have that ultra case you had. My friends can't believe how big it is.
It was very big. I gave that one to a friend who was building his first budget gaming setup.
Gmod never gets old. How many hours have you clocked over the years?
I only bought it this past December despite how my friends have been telling me to get it for years. In 2 months I racked up 78 hours.
I am less than 100 hours away from 2000.
Do you want to watch the world burn?
My name is pwnstar89 and I have a screen addiction. "Hi Pwnstar".
Im looking into getting 2 monitors for my next rig im building. What monitor mounts are these? I was looking into the ergotron lx but its expensive. Im going to do 2 25" monitors.
Best cheap mounts IMO. Check out the other desk mounts they have. They are all really cheap on that site.
Once you lock these in place they dont move right, they cannot be adjusted on the fly?
Lol it might have been.
I had that same desk in high school! Unscrewed the top shelves so my 24" monitor could fit :s
Dang What are your computer specs for you being able to support 7 monitors????
Wait, are you watching porn at the top left of pic 53?
Not sure if this was asked already, but how much did the new setup cost over they years? It looks pretty clean and very well set up (Although I am not sure I could handle having those gaps between the monitors, it would probably bother me)
I cant tell because it has been over many years. I'd give it all the price tag of $3,000 now, but it is worth much more than that to me.
That isn't all that bad, considering the cost of components and other electronics these days. Well done sir.
Needs a couple more monitors imo. Otherwise, not bad.
Yes! haha it was a neat little device. I also once owned the Dell AXIM X5. Sold them both to pay for my first Droid phone.
How is it gaming on that PPP setup? And also, whats the hardware like in your current computer?
Honest question, why not just get a tv for the center screen? You essentially just made a big 16:9-ish screen putting those 3 monitors together like that. No bezels to deal with...
Because if I had one large 1080p TV I would have 1/3 of the resolution that I have now. The pixels per inch would be much much less. Having 3 screens gives me a 3 x 1080p resolution. Games look awesome on it.
That chair looks really uncomfortable. Also, is that a bottle of Cholula?
I think the hot sauce in the pic is Texas Pete. If I remember correctly.
I have a silver version of that monitor arm mount sitting under my bed taking up space... It's fully functional, in good cosmetic shape. Willing to sell it if anyone's interested.
I had the desk from the first set of pics. Loved that thing. That was seriously the best computer desk ever.
I had the same desk as your highschool gaming setup. Then I had to move and give it away. That desk was flipping amazing. 4 layers of awesome.
LOL! every reason listed is exactly why I chose that desk haha. My parents bought it for me for "school work", but i saw much more potential >:]
Lots of desks these days don't seem to understand that you need room for both the keyboard AND mouse in a tray drawer. This desk just nailed it in so many ways.
It is but I'm not sure of the map. hmm
Aww, that's too bad. It looked pretty sweet with all those containers lying around.
Where can I find that grey and black side desk?
Weismann MFG5 - my favorite car.
What are these monitors? Do you have a link to them?
I can understand the perspective that the bezels would be irritating, and perhaps they are, but for me I hardly notice them. The side screens are there moreso for wider FoV; you still focus on the centre screen, so you don't really notice the bezels any more than you notice you're general surroundings while playing.
Because this is how I wanted it. I didn't want one big screen, I wanted higher resolution. To each his own.
What is the resolution of your 55"? I always thought that the pixels would be far too large to sit 2 feet from a screen that size.
You're complaining about something you don't like that you have apparently not used based on what you wrote, while you're at the same time also complaining about other people not understanding that your choice is not liked by the public because they don't understand.
A lot lower resolution, the screen is all in the same plane, in these setups you can turn individual monitors, and much more screen real estate.
This is awesome, but I feel like you should get a bigger desk if the space allows it. The keyboard is so close to the screens.
Idk I love this table because of how sturdy it is. The thick tabletop is perfect for clamp-style VESA mounts. Underneath, my 2 sub-computers are also mounted to the legs to save space.
Has anyone told you what a vagina feels like? Jk I'm really jealous of the rig. Looks like you put in a lot of work and money into it.
Yeah my girlfriend told me once... lol Thanks, I did.
Could you give me a quick run-down of how Synergy works? Are the three computers connected in any way? Do you have some sort of interface that lets you tell the computers how the monitors are positioned? I would love to use something like this to expand my setup!
Synergy is a keyboard and mouse switch that works over a LAN network; used so many computers can use one keyboard and mouse. You do need to tell the program where the monitors are positioned, but after that is done you can roll your mouse off the screen of one computer and onto the screen of another just as if it were an extended desktop.
How do you like those monitor arms?
They all work great, especially for only being 22$ each. No complaints
I think this is beautiful. The technology progression is just great. The whole corner of your attic room just gets crazier over the years. It's just cool looking because it goes to separate monitors and machines to just one. This is practically a battle headquarters.
Is that a chieftec dragon case I spy in one of the early photos?
Yes I believe it is. It was perfect for me at the time. So much room to fit anything I wanted in there.
Picture 42 to 43 was beautiful :*)
Amazing set up, really really incredible. Love the evolution pics.
Its like watching a beautiful birth of a child to when it grows up
I love the story telling with pictures. Fantastic album, thanks for sharing!
Thanks. No problem at all. Thank you coolcomputersetups
What is your GPU setup?
2X ATI Radium 5850 crossfire + eyefinity. the 4 others are on genetic cards on 2 different computers
Nice, I'd go for a keyboard update though next, to something with mechanical switches.
Thanks, but dam you for giving me another thing I want to buy that I don't need. lol I'm surprised I haven't heard of those before.
And just how hot does your room get?
Nice and warm during the winter.
Nice transitions! I currently have the case you had as your first gaming PC. Huge case but I bought it at salvation army so half the damn parts are missing! What is it btw.
That, my friend, is legendary.
