Gonna ask you directly OP. Everyone I've talked to has said water cooling is a stupid idea. Clearly you disagree. I don't know enough about it to judge, so for a layman, would you mind explaining why it's worth doing?

Exactly, some people will say "they needed too because it's quieter", but the truth is that you can generally get those some benefits on air. Both systems require fans.

Nice rig, but why didnt you buy a quad instead of a dual core? Seems like money wasnt much of an issue.

Things weren't multithreaded as well back then. Single-core performance was still really important, especially for gaming. He wouldn't have been able to overclock a quad-core that high due to heat.

Probably not with full grass LOD though. Not even my i5-6870 setup could handle that without lag.

Still got my Stacker running strong, black+blue front on brushed alu siding! Wheels mean it gets rode into the lan party hall like a magical computerhorse... they don't make them like they used to.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but what are the wires on the videocards for? Looks like they're wired to a little blue box that has a button or a potentiometer?

I just realized what you asked. Those are the vold mods. You adjust the pot to increase or decrease the voltage. Soldering on a 700+ USD card at the time.....yeah. I was ballsy.

Nice pics! Couple of questions though: 1. What kind of fittings are you using? It looks really loose. 2. How much power did your setup inhale?

With such a computer, you should definitely buy some more monitors!

680i sli? i still have one of those running on my HTPC. the northbridge on that gets RIDICULOUSLY hot even when i have everything underclocked+undervolted.

I think you mean Dual SLI not triple yeah?
