What Monitors - Computer Setup

Comments

College students are so poor
This doesn't appear to be a particularly expensive setup.
Minimalism gets you a long way when you want something to look nice.
Too much stuff can cause havoc. Everything needs a place otherwise it can get in the way of one thing which then gets in the way of another and before you know it you are having "clean your room" again.
You are very correct. I bought almost everything on sale, at IKEA, or cheaply on amazon.
More expensive than your macbook, t.v., monitors, or guitars? Am I missing something here?
They're like $60-150 but can generally be bought used for $30-90. New and used texts can be sold back at about half price. You would only buy 10 per year (in practice there's always a few courses that have cheap course packs, or online readings rather than texts). So while coolcomputersetups likes to hate on the outrageously high costs of text books, and rightfully so, the texts are not the most expensive things in the room. Unless he is comparing every text he has ever bought to individual items, which doesn't make sense, but even then if you manage your text book buying well, the macbook is still more expensive than 4 years of college text books.
$60-$150?? I was paying ~$300 for some of mine.
That's fucked up. My most expensive text was a calculus text that was used over two courses for $200. I found that most texts could be purchases second hand, at the college book store or from previous students, for about half price or less. Past editions can be much cheaper, though it can be annoying if the class assignments use the problem sets, as you end up having to photocopy the problems from someone else or the library.
Yeah. I majored in finance, so a lot of my day-by-day coursework consisted of a billion problems. A couple people I knew attempted to get older texts and found that the readings were mostly the same, but the problems were completely different. It almost wasn't worth the trouble.
Science and psych tend to be the most expensive in my experience.
OP knows rich kids don't get credit here on coolcomputersetups
Maybe he had those before college or something... (Making the books the most expensive purchase to start)
The camera and variety of lenses. Neither are cheap.
Nope, I have just worked a ton since I was 14.
Insane props to you man. You need to cherish every ounce of it. I have one question that I'll ask in a single word. Ritalin?
Not that I am doubting you with absolution, but I flipped burgers, washed dishes, ran register, and moved shit around since 7th grade and couldn't afford half the crap you've got in your room when I turned 18.
I don't think he's 18... He's moved onto Jameson and Gentleman Jack. That's how you know you have a mature college student.
I've only been working for a little while at a part time tech job while in college, and I could afford all of that shit if I didn't just buy a jeep.
Or pay rent, food, minimal social life?
I do now. Oh, do I ever
Judging by the minimalistic room, clean bathroom, level posters, nicely designed gaming setup, gentleman jack, made bed, organized closet with nice clothes, etc.. he seems like you're the kind of guy who has a handle on life. At the very least his parents made enough money when he lived with him that he could save up all of his money since he was 14, and they probably taught him how to handle money well.
How? you can't even work legally in my state till you're 15.
In my state it's 14, which is when I started working, also I think you can work on a farm even younger than that.
How much per month? What area?
Don't mean to call you out, but do you go to MSU?
I do! Go green :)
Can you give me a link to the desk? Thanks!
It is for a fucking student.
I can't speak for OP, but most people will be paying off student loans until they are 40. I live like a fucking hobo, but I've got less debt than I make in a month.
Hey, to each their own. I live like a hobo and I had to unsub from r/frugal, they were just a bit much for me.
I had to unsubscribe to that sub as well. Don't get me wrong, I am a cheap bastard who pretty much only spends money on the necessities but those people are a bit too much.
You don't need a car in uni. Gigantic waste of money if you are in cycling distance. Keeps you fit too. If you are relying on a car for girls then you are doing it wrong.
I still have a car, but I ride my bike to work 8 months of the year anyways. Saves on both a gym membership and fuel.
I have no idea why people downvoted you for saving money and being healthy.....
I'm a full time student with a part time job, and like OP, I have an hdtv, two guitars of similar value, and a pc I built (though with only one monitor).
I can't afford all this, or half of this. Expensive is a matter of perspective.
The location is a big part of it too. This sort of living space in my university would cost $1k+. Even if not in residence, it'd still cost the same. So there's no way I can afford that. But in terms of his setup, I think I can afford it if I buy stuff used and on sale over a long period of time. There's no way I can buy it all at once at regular price.
PM me, ill send you the $1000 it costs to buy this stuff.
I had a job in college but I also had to pay my own rent and tuition and was poor as fuck. I did manage to graduate with only $3k of debt. But I could not afford anything in that room. My desk was a folding card table and my computer was a shitty laptop.
MacBook. Guitars. Awesome room. Android TV. Two Monitors. Tons of clothes. Black Board. Still a lot of stuff.
Everything is inexpensive when you are rich.
Uhh... Custom PRS, that will set you back a couple large
The PRS... those guitars are like $2000.
Don't be ridiculous. This represents at least 4 or 5 times the amount of money that goes into an average college dorm room or apartment. This is not to mention the incredibly nice living space with a walk in closet and finished bathroom (marble tiles and a walk-in closet... in college?). One thing is for sure here, this kid's parents do very well.
Ok, well I can see you're just trying to troll or something so nevermind.
Let's do some estimates.
So you're somehow implying that having 2000 dollars to spend with making the bedroom pretty isn't a lot for the average student. Ok.
You are very privileged. Enjoy, and make the most of yourself in college!
Man you sound like a mom
I wish I was this classy :/
I want what you have. All of what you have.
Isn't that a sin or smth
Who needs a happy afterlife when you have a walk-in closet?
A sin or smith?
What are you using for the lights behind your monitor, as well to get them to change colour?
The backlights are from IKEA:
Is your Google TV keyboard connected to your PC? How?
Haha it's ok! I'm surprised you got back to me at all! Those look nice, thanks!
So tidy! The parallel lines, the shisha pipe the guitars, the mood lighting....marry me please
I've honestly never heard someone call a hookah a shisha pipe.
That's what we call it in England. Hookah sounds nicer though, maybe I'll start saying that.
You're a British girl? Marry me.
One day, but right now I sleep...
Shisha is what it is normally called here in europe, i might also be what they call it in the middle east since shisha refers to the type of tobacco that is used with the pipe.
Well thats the thing, even here in the US the actual tobacco is called shisha, but the pipes are just called hookahs for whatever reason.
Wikipedia has this answer:
"In India and Pakistan the name most similar to the English hookah is used: huqqa"
Woah, TIL. Def coming up at my next session. Thanks!
In Asia they call it Shisha as well from my experience.
Yeah, I hadn't heard that until I moved to New Zealand.
I call it a narguilé. I don't follow your rules.
That was it. You just passed the test!
In the Middle East it is shisha
Wow, you actually vacuumed right before taking the picture..
I love the nonchalant draping of the blanket over the corner of the bed just to make it look like you didn't try to clean too much. I'm on to you OP... (Just kidding, sweet setup)
You know me too well, cbreezy
I am, actually... just a very anal retentive college student.
What monitor stand is that? Look's pretty good.
But the dell's backlight's are bleeding pretty bad as you can see in the image showing the matrix screensavers :-(
I see jameson and i bookmark
Wow this is amazing man. I especially like the docking station for the MacBook. Such class but it doesn't look like it's not lived in.
Nice setup! Is there any way you could tell me where you got that black board?
Definitely one of the best college gaming setup's I've seen!
Those are some sexy art nouveau prints
This guy is getting more ass than any of us.
I really like this room, I wish more people posted there whole room.
I wish I had a setup like this in college - very nicely done! (I saved some photos for future inspiration). ;)
I must know where you got that blanket! It looks so comfy.
My grandma knitted it! I'll tell her coolcomputersetups likes it.
I never understood how those back lights/mood lights work.
Your a saint, and happy cake day!
What camera and lens did you use for these pictures?
Canon 60D with Canon 50mm f1.8, Canon 28-137mm, and Vivitar 8mm fisheye.
Do you use the hood on the fish eye?
I don't really see the point indoors.
The version of the fisheye I have has a permanent hood attached.
I believe it's called a fish eye lens, I've seen people have them attached to their iPhone's and get a similar result.
Olloclip is an accessory that you can put on the iPhone to give it a fisheye lens.
Very neat, tidy and you have some taste. love it. btw, can you please throw a link to that matrix screensaver?
I think i have that same desk. Is it the ikea GALANT? Its pretty much the perfect multi monitor desk
Is that an apple tv or what am I looking at?
What monitor stand is that? I have been looking for one but wasn't sure how it would work for a corner desk.
Love it, looks fantastic OP. Nice and clean. :)
Wow. spectacularly clean. love the set up. very jealous here haha
Nice to see another Coolcomputersetupsor who enjoys The Power of One.
Commenting to say you're carpet looks fucking amazing. So clean, so sexy, so sultry. Good work for cleaning up after yourself.
The "keep calm and carry on" poster has become the new version of the bob marley poster that every single freshman has hanging in their dorm.
Looking good! Happy cakeday and good luck with that exam ;)
What do you study? You have a serious eye for design...
Thanks! I actually am studying medical technology and begin med school in the fall.
Congrats!! Enjoy the rest of college! Seriously.

"Student Edition (SE) models PRS introduced a new, affordable, "Student Edition" line of guitars in the late 1990s referred to as the "SE". The Student Edition line is manufactured in Korea. Many students purchase these models due to the relatively low cost as compared to the higher end PRS guitars. These models feature many of the very same ergonomics, style, and recognizable name as their more expensive cousins."
Love that PRS, and where did you get those backlights from they look really good!
Of all the gaming setups, this one is my favorite that I've seen so far.
I wish I was rich
You'll find that the wealthy are sticklers about punctuation and questionable diction.
My girlfriend has that TV. I fucking hate it for everything it is except its beautiful 32" 1080p screen.
Damn, I'm done with college and wish I could afford 1/2 of this stuff...I wish I had rich parents.
Nice set up. Any pics of the pc w/specs?
Hey OP, if you don't mind, what college is this?
Nice work on this room OP. I should move my ass... !
Great setup - Although I must say as an owner of those same Logitech speakers. If they are the same generation - your left and right is reversed fyi.
Really clean and practical.
Hey man, this setup is really cool. I love that desk. IKEA all the way!
You shouldn't show walk in closets to the people who don't live in the US.
Very nice job, OP. I've been working 7 years and your place owns mine. You did a nice job mounting your posters, which are also tastefully selected. What did you use to attach posters to wall? And how did you keep them spaced and level?
Picture 9 is really cool.
Line 6 Spider III amp in the lower right?
What monitors are you using, and where'd you get that Android plush?
I have those speakers and they're awesome, but it appears yours are the wrong way around.
Hi, I saw that someone linked to the desk below, but I'm not finding the corner piece. Could you link to the exact model? Thanks.
Daaaaaammnn. You rich as fuck.
What led lights are you using?
Line 6 Spider amp? I had one of those for a while. If you ever can, check out the Vox Valvetronix series. They're pretty good for practicing at home, tons of built in effects, and depending what wattage you want, they're pretty close to the price of the spider amps from Line 6.
Holy shit. Are you at some off-campus apartments at MSU? I picked the wrong school...
I love your "I want you for caucus" poster. Where did you get it? Or did you print it out and framed it?
Is that in a dorm, apartment or parent's? Regardless, good job on putting it together.
I have the same speakers man but you have them around the wrong way! The speakers with the controls, is meant to be on the right! :)
So clean.... And you must be rich since you have so much stuff......
You have a great spread... fuck you.
OP, you seem pretty good at life. Grats.
Great setup I shall take great inspiration from this
Far too much money for a student. Go blow it all on drugs.
Which fish lens do you own getting a 650D soonmight be a good lens to own.
Where did you get the PR5-E in red? I have it in natural but wanted red!
I aspire to be as organized as you.
That Line 6 amp... I'm sorry. Mine died in about 6 months, never again. You got some sweet guitars though!
Nicer than my room at home...
Could you give us the measurements of the main rectangle part of your room? (wall to wall)
Lol the wages of sin book sitting right next to the jameson
Dude, what colour are your walls? they're awesome.
I'm getting almost the exact same desk set up.
Where did you get that Black dry erase board?
Cakeday credit for you good sir
I wish my parents were rich
My mom was a school teacher and my dad is a nurse... but nice assumption.
My parents are rich as fuck but haven't payed for a thing besides a vacation or two, since I moved out at 17.
Interesting dock, wish windows laptops had cool gadgets in the quantity that apple products do!
Aw yes, Gentleman Jack. For the, reserved whiskey connoisseur, marvellous drink. Jameson's too. For all its worth, the Keep Calm fad my have become overdone, but the original is still worthy of so much credit, I should know, looking at my poster right now :D
