As Monitors - Computer Setup

EVE Online. Not even once.
Jesus! I realize that this is EVE, but may I ask why you need so many screens? Are you running like 10 different accounts at once? Why is that needed? I thought it was just a game with spreadsheets :P
It's about utility, and diminishing returns. A character's utility takes exponentially longer to increase with each level, so instead of training one highly skilled character, it's much more efficient to train two medium skilled characters in a fraction of the time.
Ty ty. Currently 10 accounts, and i'm pretty sure this is the most I'll run (I've never made up my mind about that before). The monitor array is around $650, including parts, adapters, cables, and the USB hubs.
This is awesome, any chance you can post a video? I would love to see this in action.
Thanks! and yes I have openbroadcaster installed, which I use for twitch streams quite often. unfortunately I am currently doing something very boring in the game--setting up a base. I will keep the video goal in mind for the next time I'm doing something interesting.
I am impressed. Wow, just wow.
Does the resolution look better than the real world? Because I think it would. Gorgeous
Good work!
Do you plan to move the displays closer together, so that there will be no visible gap?
Thank you very much. And yes... In my dreams I would get around to designing a frame and have it machined, but I will probably fashion a frame from hardware store sheet metal, with the outer columns angled inward.
How do you control that many EVE accounts at once? I tri-box and don't see myself handling more than that because of the physical lag of getting my mouse from point A to point B
I'm still a purist--I do it manually like you describe. but lately, for the purpose of travel--jumping, mwd cycling, I think I will give ISBoxer a try. I also avoid overloading myself with the fleet comp--two or three characters are simply boosters, and if I'm in a recon setup, their roles are in a sequence, and simultaneous commands aren't required as often as it would seem. There are things this setup is great for, like camping gates or wormholes in cloakies; I can have eyes on both sides of a wormhole chain two or three deep. "hot locking" and fleet commands also help. the one thing I hate doing is setting up fleet.
Why do you need the super duper high resolution? Couldn't you get a 30" screen and have these games all windowed? I don't actually know much about EVE though but curious.
That would be nice, but no. windowed clients on 1080p are cramped, and 2k or 3k displays are expensive. using retina LCDs as monitors is a cheap alternative, and a solution to both problems.
