Minimalism Gaming Setup - Computer Setup

Comments

I'm gonna be honest here, it's hideous.
I agree personally, but if he loves it, and it's his bag, good on him. It looks well crafted, well thought out and like it took a lot of hard effort to put together. I appreciate all of that and hope he enjoys it.
Yeah, i was wondering if anyone else shared my feelings. Not that OP should care. I was just thinking to myself how ugly this space looks. Its just the mismatched colors added with whatever is going on the edges...just..yuck. But that's just my personal opinion and OP is entitled to whatever he likes.
Lol, I guess just be glad that I didnt build it for you. That would have been awkward.
I like it, man. It's crazy. It gives people something to talk about and it's just the right blend of nice furniture and the seventh layer of hell. Congrats.
I feel like it's the furniture equivalent of the food I would make when I was young, where I couldn't decide if I wanted something BBQ flavor and spicy or maybe something Greek with like feta cheese and everything, so I'd just mix the two. The worst I ever came up with was adding maple syrup and hot sauce to tuna. Man, that was bad.
So, in other words, this is the workspace equivalent to hot sauce and maple syrup?
I don't think the desk itself is hideous, but the white wall kind of messes up the feel of it.
I think it would work better if the walls were painted different. OP needs to go full-on log cabin with this?
I agree. The "backsplash" is just gaudy.
I felt bad for thinking that when I looked through the album, so I'm glad people agree. But then I suppose when it comes to a desk the only thing that matters is the person who's using it everyday to like it!
I wouldn't say hideous, it just seems really out of place.
It's the carpet that makes it look bad.
Beautiful desk. But doesn't the hole for the case kind of limit your options? What if you change to a different style of case and then you're stuck with an unnecessary hole in your desk...
If I do change it, it wont be for at least 5 or 6 years. And if I do, its actually pretty easy to make a new top. The entire desk is very modular and easy to assemble/disassemble. That way if something breaks, or needs altered, it can easily be done.
Interesting. What was the reasoning for the hole in the first place, or was there a reason for it? I like the idea of the modular/easy to dissemble desk and clearly the desk is a work of art, but I don't see the benefit of limiting yourself from the get-go. Maybe for access to different ports?
I wanted the entire unit to look like it was made for each other. To many builds make the pc look like it was just plopped somewhere because they literally have nowhere to put it. Most computer desks dont really have a place for them that looks like it was meant to be there, does that make sense? The entire build was a small tribute to gaming as a whole, so that made incorporating the PC just that more important. I have references from gaming carved out, mainly on that large backsplash (nes and snes controller among other things). I also am a pretty simple guy that doesnt change much. I dont see this as limiting myself, because I doubt I will change it. And in the chance I will, it will be a long time from now and will be easy to do so.
Maybe you should've given better thought to airflow? Not sure how well it will work out, is the rear panel completely exposed? How are you going to route the cables neatly?
Very cool, thanks for the insight.
So... I wonder who the fucker is that keeps downvoting you.
Ehh, some people dont like the overall design. Its not everyones taste lol. No biggy.
Usually a simple downvote on the actual link is suffice. But to go through every one of your comments? That's just spite and jealousy.
Lol, if people actually do that, they are just wasting their own time. Points dont matter and usually the overall consensus of the site wins over. So if they would rather waste their life downvoting every single comment someone makes than to do something more constructive, have at it lol.
I don't even downvote things that I personally don't like just because they aren't my taste. My coolcomputersetups policy is to only downvote obviously stupid or offensive (racism, sexism) comments. I changed to this after having felt bad downvoting a meme I just didn't find funny, but then I realized someone might have put effort in it and there was no upside for me downvoting his work.
No this completely makes sense, computer hardware styles have a bit of longevity. I can see the system being updated for 20 years with different hardware, albeit probably smaller hardware... either way. ATX has been around since 1995, mini itx fits ATX cases, etc etc... That case might become a bit of a relic but it can be upgraded. Though in 40 years it'll be interesting to see what people think of the desk top.
That is some terrible dusting.
Reminds me of a crazy wooden table my parents had when I was growing up. VERY cool use of materials, and I like how you've integrated the PC into it rather than just having it take up space above/below.
Thank you! I had that exact thought when I was building it. I didnt want the computer to just be an accessory, but rather a part of the desk. It took me a week just thinking about how to do it. Im glad you appreciate that aspect!
Wow that desk is beautiful
What game is that? I don't recognize it.
I believe it is Torchlight.
Does the 770 have a green pcb? or is that just the lighting?
This is the EVGA SC edition and it is green
Thats the one I ordered.
I think that desk really exemplifies why I don't like corner builds. You have no room to use a large mousemat to it's full extent. But, I do use a at least half a full QCK xl when browsing the desktop (450cpi on 1080p monitor) and a full QCK xl when gaming.
I have a lot more room than a standard mouse pad. I bought an extra large pad and I havent had issues with room.
A standard mouse mat is very small.
I love it. I really dont see why all the hate. It is ridiculously fast (ssd to thank also), easy to customize and access anything I want. It also allows me to have a very clean desktop because with a mash of one button I can access every program that I visit most often. No more destop with folders and shortcuts. I now have a desktop with a rotation of large wallpapers with ZERO clutter. I love it!
Everytime you update, your computer has a chance of booting into a "Please wait" or a black screen. They might last as long as eight hours. Just so you dont reboot and get frustrated when it happens again.
Hmm, havent had a problem yet. Thanks for the info!
I had it for two months..then i just couldnt use it..not to mention my hard ware kept locking up with win 8 for no god damn reason..so i went back to windows xp..yes for some win 8 is amazing but not for me...or at least when i got win 8 it was not very well put together in my opinion but only time will tell...but have fun ill stick to xp and 7
Huh, this is has just started happening to me. Thanks for the info!
Have you installed any Logitech or Razer drivers recently? I've pretty much narrowed it down to one of those two causing the confliction.
Not that I can remember. I have a g700, but i think it was a windows update that sparked the update.
You have obviously never used Windows 8. It is awesome, i have it on my new PC and prefer it Windows 7 i still use on my old.
I prefer xp/7 to any other version and i HAVE used 8...it was awfule for me :( and all my friends agree except one who is a touch screen laptop user.
Get a start menu replacement and it is exact the same as 7 but betterer
Technically impressive, but until you redesign the rest of your house and have a truck carry it into the woods, it looks absolutely ridiculous.
Im working on adding things into the house and room to make it less, um, sore thumbish. Just takes time :). Thanks for your compliment.
Wow, i can appreciate the hard work, but wow, that is just awful given the decor of rest of the house. i could see this being appropriate for a mountain cabin or something...
Nice setup, man! I'm not too sure I'd want a subwoofer sitting directly below my computer though...
Its not. That is just when I was testing everything. It is actually behind my main monitor, completely hidden
Ahh, very nice. I was thinking with such a clean setup, it seemed weird. :P
I have no idea why, but the desk looks much more appealing to be in these pictures.
It's good that you like it and are happy with it, but I find it hideous. Nice work though building it yourself OP!
That has to be the most horrific and hideous thing to ever be placed in a home.
Looks very tacky but i don't have to look at very day
Beautiful, now sell all your monitors and get matching ones from Dell. Don't go cheap now, get Ultrasharp.
Very true, that will be my next investment!
If you are a gamer I recommend the Asus 144hz monitors for the fps people if you want low ghosting. For people who don't mind the ghosting or lower refresh rates, but want color accuracy and picture quality I recommend the Korean ips monitors like catleap. I personally have one of each, the catleap in portrait for websites and as my secondary and a Asus 120hz for my primary for gaming. I can't play fast paced fps on a regular monitor at 60hz after experiencing a 120hz.
Great set up, but you might regret putting that in front of a window.
Yep, I have put up some towels until I can get some curtains, because when the sun sets it perfectly blinds me
That is amazing, I can't even fathom the amount of work that went into it. Great job!
That desk looks simply incredible. It's too bad the rest of the house/room isn't properly themed with it or it would really be jaw dropping.
I'm so glad to finally find someone with taste.
While I agree with you, part of me disagrees too. I like the style and work that went into a desk like this, but a well done minimalistic ikea desk and pc setup looks amazing too. :)
Nah, that ikea minimalist stuff is so tacky, it always looks gash in my opinion.
To each their own. :) I like them all lol
Almost finished with my desk as well and thought about posting the pics here. After seeing this, there is no point. My desk does not even come close to how impressive this is.
Lol, thanks. It took a while and a lot of time. If you are proud of it, def post it!
Ctrl + F "gnarly" 0 of 0
Already looks like dust heaven.
You dont notice it until you take a few pictures, then it just sticks out
You got a battle plan to deal with that, like wipe everything once a week?
Congrats! Did you DIY or contract someone?
Did it myself. Took about 4 months to build the desk.
Looks like there is no space at all for the rear fan. How is the airflow inside the case?
Very good actually. Most of the heat gets pushed out of the top. During a game of Supcom, my CPU clocked to 4.11 at speeds in the high 40's, running prime it went to 55. and GPU went to about 45. At general web browsing, Im running CPU: 2.0GHZ 35C and GPU 40C
The division of the top part and lower probably really isolates what air the case pulls in, only cool air at the floor level is getting pulled in!
What did you use for stain/sealer/finish?
Stain was cherry, and then a few coats of minwax poly, satin in think. If you want to know the exact process let me know and Ill write out a longer message.
Did you make those funky pieces of wood? They look really nice.
Everything is out of wood. The 'funky' pieces, depending upon which ones you are talking about, are made out of 1 piece, or a few pieces together and then carved to make it look like one.
You, my friend, are extremely talented.
Any chance of getting a better picture of the cable management? I'm curious to see how the cables end up getting to the screen etc
I fucking love that! /Think I'd go with a bigger main screen though personally.
A little late to the party, but excellent craftsmanship! You can always tell when someone puts their heart and soul into something, and it's clear that's what you did :)
I like it man, very unique desk and build. It's refreshing to see people try something so ambitious on a desk project. That wood working skill is something I wish I had. When I'm done with school and have my own home one of my goals is to have a nice garage with lots of tools for projects like this. Great job!
Doesn't look bad at all but it could look a hell of a lot better with wood floor or laminate wood floor. Hope that is your next DIY.
How much do you think this set you back? Not including the 4months of labor of course.
That is one intricate desk; in true Coolcomputersetups fashion I will point out that it's probably a PITA to clean though.
Damn that's real nice. Just don't keep any drinks on the right side of your desk; it could spill onto and into the computer D:
Hmm, why is it that I think i've seen this before
I posted this in woodworking a few weeks ago when I got the desk built, and in pics. I couldnt put it into gaming setup until I got the entire computer built
Hmm, I never visited that sub coolcomputersetups. Just weird that's all...
OR its that you've posted this same album 3 times, with a slight variation a fourth time.
As replyed, I posted just the desk to woodworking and to pics, and yes I do have pics of the computer and its build also.
When ever you show your apparment/house to people you have to open with "I have many leather bound books and my computer setup smells of rich mahogany"
Just gotta get me some leather bound books lol!
That is gorgeous! I would love to have some non-desk furniture in that style, because I would totally destroy a desk that looked like that (I have a habit of beating up desks).
Id be willing to make anything, but takes time, and shipping wont be cheap
Where are you located? I'm actually moving cross country next month so maybe I'll luck out. Unfortunately all my funds are tied up in my move (I'm going from San Diego to Boston).
Good to know, I've saved this thread for once I get settled.
Sure, It will be fun to do something for someone. Good luck moving!
What the flying fuck! Awesome man!
I'm sorry OP, but this is truly the ugliest piece of furniture I've ever laid eyes upon. Each their own I guess, but I would sooner use my computer on a cardboard box.
Nice d00d. so much detail!
