Triple Monitor - Computer Setup

Comments

Looks very neat! Are you planning on painting the wooden parts? I like the gray on the desk.
I was not planning to, but it might happen someday. The desk is a kitchen-desk, so I bought it that way.
It looks good the way it is but I think it would also be cool if it was all gray :)
Was about to mention the same. I've bought a bunch of cheap furniture and stained it. Stain makes everything look 2x more valuable.
Yep, really easy too. Pick up a gel stain and rub it on with a cloth or staining pad after a light sand. You'll have a completely different desk in about 45 minutes. The smell goes away after about a week too so don't worry.
Totally true. Staining makes everything so old timey, smokey and grand.
*sniff....it's so beautiful....i just...i just need a minute.
I got fed up with the old table and it was time for the third monitor. So after a few weeks of planning and some 3d sketches I bought all the necessary stuff in homeimprovement store and started working. It was 2 days at my parents driveway and 2 days at home to assemble it all. The switches on the right control the lights, turning on the amp and the PC. The main desk can be removed in 2 minutes so the wheel can be mounted as close to the monitor as possible. If you have any questions, ask.
May I ask what monitors these are and how you are liking them? I'm still asking myself with which monitors I should go..
I bought the first one, than the second and few weeks ago the third, so it was not purchased all at once. They are LG Flatron IPS235P. Realy nice colors, awesome viewing angles and pretty good response (~5ms). For the price they are awesome.
I love it! How much did it cost to buy all the supplies?
How did you mount the speakers? Did they have mounting points or did you just go for a random spot?
You should put some edge banding on the ends. Looks sick!
I know, I will tomorrow.
Any chance you'd consider an Instructables on this? I would love to do something similar.
Well there is a build process photo story in the comments and I can give you the 3d sketches if you want to. If you need this and anything else, just ask.
Weird french style Schuko plug with grounded pin not on the wire
This is super nice and neat dude...
Damn, that is a sexy setup. Well done!
Looks amazing! Could you share your 3d sketches? Would love to see the approach you took and how the results stand against the drawings.
sigh Dat USB 3.0 passthrough cable...when will case makers learn? Nice setup, though!
ARMA3 Across 3 screens? what on earth are your specs good man?
I5 3570 @ 4.2 GHz; 16 Gb ram; Nvidia 660 TI OC.
Still, I bet its awesome fun with arma on three monitors.
Is that table from Bauhaus? I'm pretty sure I have the exact same table. Nice setup by the way.
How are you powering the speakers?
Nice setup OP! whats the spec of that nicely hidden pc?
I5 3570 @ 4.2 GHz (watercooled); 16 Gb ram; Nvidia 660 TI OC; Vertex 4 SSD.
I'm in love with the color of the wood. What is it?
It is a kitchen desk from homeimprovement store. Cost me $60.
Really like the desk and the way you have managed all the cables, switches etc. Inspires me to try and make something like this, good job :)
Go for it. It is so much worth it. You can meke it anything you ever wanted.
This. This is sick.
I remember commenting on the design thread. Nice job on the build! Looks super sturdy...and I really like how the table top can come off for your racing games!
What are those switches for?
From left: Startbutton for a PC; powerswitch for amplifier; light switch 1; light switch 2; switch for the power outlet on the right (My soldering iron and hotglue gun does not have a swithch, so I made this. It is convinient when working with it.)
Stell SHO 1161 and SHO 1027. Not that expensive and they are really solid. No wobble. You can mount an elephatnt on the wall with it.
I found them but can't find a place to order them from
Is there anything like it in America? o.O couldn't find anything that was like that and cheap D:
I don't know. I found these by accident. Half the usual price for the quality, so I took them. Did not look further.
Why wouldn't I be able to buy them is what I wanna know :V
The stores that have them are only shipping in Europe. Do you know ho much stuff I wanted from the US and they only ship there and canada?
Looks great! Good job. One thing I would encourage, is for you to test the speakers at ear level instead of so much higher as you have them. It really makes a big difference for immersion. I have a triple monitor set up, and I am an iRacer - I initially had my speakers up high as you do and when I moved them down to ear level it just sounded much better.
I guess I could try, but I don't want anything on my desk. This way they are out of the way.
As long as they're aimed towards your ears they'll work just as fine.
I like when my speakers are pointed directly into my eyeballs.
Haha. Almost. It is easily adjustable and works just fine. $3 at IKEA.
Does it get hot behind the monitors? My monitor gets pretty hot after some time and I can imagine it can be even worse with three monitors and a case tucked in a rather closed space.
There is quite a lot of space behind the monitors and I don't see the problem here. PC case is also very nicely ventilated with a lot of space around.
This is awfully specific, and i'm only bringing it up because it'll help, and I ran into the same problem. You shouldn't have audio monitors on their sides, it causes the tweeters to have a separate focal point than the woofer, and causes phasing issues.
Interesting point, but I believe it does not have anything to do with the orientation of the speakers. Focal points of the woofer and tweeters are different, but it is not possible that they would cancel each other out. They are on different frequencies (hence the use: woofer vs tweeters). If you would like to elaborate more I will gladly learn a new thing.
They're not going to phase cancel each other as you point out because of such different frequency ranges, you're correct there, but what it causes is two separate "sweet spots", one for the tweeters, and one for the woofer. So if you're sitting in the sweet spot for one, you're going to not going to be in the correct place for the other and that's where you start to get phasing problems.
OK.. , but if you look at this from a side it does the same thing rotated 90°. If it is vertical and the tweeters are directed to my ears, then woofers are pointed somewhere below my shoulders. And afaik tweeters are more sensible to direction, but woofers are not (That is why you can have subwoofers uder the desk etc.)
I'm no expert, this is just how it was explained to me, and I've heard more than once.
Neither am I, I am just following commom sense. That is why I am interested. I will try to find something on the topic.
Ultimately whatever sounds best to is always the correct solution. I'd look around, and try different things. See what works best. No one way is ever 100% right.
I'm in the middle of building a new setup and yours is like mine but just a bit better... Looks like it's time for some speaker wall mounts and another screen. sigh
The mouse is a Gigabyte M6980. Looking forward to seeing your setup.
What's hanging above the middle screen?
It is a led lamp with "rubber hose". You can twist it and like. Good spotlight for soldering.
Bad news, man, I think your outlets are messed up.
Where? All are working. ??
I think he was talking about the metal prongs sticking out of the white powerstrip... is that a different power plug configuration?
