Yeah ArmA 2 can run pretty damn bad, even on the highest end computers.

Absolutely I don't play it for its amazing graphics or bug free engine, it is for the feel of DayZ and the hilarity of being killed by tree stumps etc.

In Arma III Alpha going prone gives you the ability to melt into the ground.

That explains how I drove over a teammate without seeing a trace of him.

I'm going to be honest, I hear this all the time about ARMA II and ARMA III and yet I've never had a performance problem to speak of. My rig isn't particularly high end (OC'ed 3820/7970) either and my laptop ran DayZ pretty well too.

I think they are referring to more of the buggy/really ridiculous aspects of the games

Wait, a 6970? Is this better than GPUs normally associated with your other specs like a 670, 680, or 7970?

Not sure, I am an ATI man rather than nVidia but a 7970 is probably better. The gaming machine itself is a year old so the hardware is probably already out of date.

6970 is a last gen card, doesn't even begin to compare with a 670, 680, Titan, 690, 7870, 7950, 7990, etc.

I have absolutely no incentive to upgrade my GPU as it still out performs all games on ultra graphics across three screens. Upgrading would be a waste of cash.

No, I guarantee you a single 6970 does not run all games on ultra at 5760x1080, it doesn't even do that at 1920x1080, go look at benchmarks.

Yes, that is a terminal to the DayZ server I run.

Cool. I'm trying to transition to Linux fully now that gaming is finally viable on there, but I've heard DayZ and Arma II are so good that I might make an exception and buy for Windows.

You can get them through Steam Linux too. I mainly stuck to Windows for things like BF3 Origin

Yeah unfortunately, this is true. Neither is Arma III (in the Early Access program) on Linux.

Yeah, it doesn't look like Bohemia is interested in Linux. I wish Steam for Linux could integrate with WINE a la Play On Linux, so you could install Windows games with 1 click.

I think too much maintenance would be required on Valve's part, plus it would probably devalue Steam a little what with the inevitable difficulties people would encounter with their individual setups.

How difficult is it to run an Arma 2 server?

Simple, my server has 1x 1.6 and 2gb ECC and it runs fine.

As pointed out before, I think it needs curtains! The other solution provided by friends was a second row of 3 into 6 will block the light out!

No, see top for the actual rig, I use the laptop to show the DayZ map atm. and ssh / rdc into my clans DayZ server
