Computer Setup

Comments

Thanks, I think I might have nightmares now... That was horrible.
Bravo sir, Bra-fucking-vo. I too have a projector to game on and it is wonderful however your projector room looks a lot more warm and inviting than mine.
He did a tremendous job indeed, I wonder what OP does for a living, I see hard work written on every piece of furniture, I have much respect.
Soooooooooooooo what do you do for a living? Very nice looking space
Ty... just a normal job... Reg level engineer... stuff acquired over the years.
Very nice sir! It all looks very well achieved. Do you produce tunes?
I am barely getting into it. It's all new to me. I started with a crappy 70 buck midi keyboard just to see how far I go with a plan to bump up to something made for producing in the future.
Right on! Well if you have any questions about that kind of thing, throw me a PM.
By far the best BattleStation posted on this coolcomputersetups
Not to take ANYTHING away from OP (because it's definitely the best of anything recent), but you haven't been around long enough. There's been quite a few truly epic setups.
But there is a difference between what you posted. What you posted is more of "an entertainment center" for lack of a better term, while all gaming setups can be considered entertainment centers i think OP's fits more under the "gaming setup" label
You ought to look up his setup on AVS. The excursion on those 18" woofers is insane. He also had a chinese manufacturer duplicate those crazy 14kW lab gruppen amps he used. I'm pretty sure he was the guy that needed to be upgraded to a 300 amp service with two 40 amp lines to the room so that his lights wouldn't flicker in the house when the system got loud.
Yeah that guys one is super impressive but honestly, its not much of a computer setup. I am very jealous but its basically a super duper impressive sound system.
Thats just nuts! I feel like that would just kill me... kind like those ultrasonic weapons crowd control teams use on people.
Lol not even close. Just throwing money at it != good taste.
Something about buying 1080 monitors larger than 20" really bothers me. If OP had some 1440 or 1600 monitor that would be amazing.
First of all... no... 20" vs 40" is not the same thing... PPI theorycraft is total BS. I would know... I have used 22", 27", 30", 40", and 46" panels in Eyefinity or NVSurround. A tiny bit warmer for LCD TVs... Louder? /confused... I work on 3 30" 2560x1600 panels everyday at work and would take the comfort of these LCDs anyday.
I think you misunderstood the context of his comment. He is correct, viewing something at one size at a distance and viewing something twice as large and twice the distance will be the same exact experience, same amount of vision is taken up, appearing to be the same sharpness. (Not in regard to pixels per inch, just by relative sight) But at any sort of desk viewing distance, a 1080p display above 27" or so starts to get a bit bad looking, in regards to how sharp the image still is. It's all about distance and how crisp you like an image to be. Pixels per inch is not bullshit, it is an actual ratio and a real thing that affects how sharp a display is, based on the density of pixels on the panel. The pixels are the same size on one monitor no matter what distance you see it from. That's like the console users' argument that you can't see above 1080 so its pointless. Well shit, of course you can't distinguish a single pixel, but you can notice a huge difference in sharpness of an image. Before I switched to my current display configuration (also sporting triple monitor), I used a 32" 1080p TV which was fine from about 8 feet away, but from about 3, a relaxed desk position, it was horrible to even look at, the fact that the spacing in between the pixels was obvious, things just were too large on the screen and too stretched out. Maybe this is all just a dumb argument and it comes down to personal preference or eyesight. But I came here mostly to say that the PPI ratio is not bullshit.
People need to try Apple's retina display or other company's displays that are like it to understand. It is a huuuuge difference. People can bloat about how huge their monitor is, but if they don't have the PPI to support it, it just looks like shit to me. Bigger monitors are not always better.
Stand 3 feet away from your TV and tell me if you can see a difference from standing 6 feet away.
I probably did scale properly to 120-125%. And you should think harder. I worked in gaming engineering division of a company... particularly in graphics card test and development for many years. Even more particular in the realm of Eyefinity and NV surround... I still work there but in the software side of things. Here is a 2 yr old pic of my desk at work, checking out Aion when it was Beta on Eyefinity at 7680x1600. (on 3 Dell 3007WFPs)
And the facts will still be true - sitting twice as far away from a display twice the size with half the PPI is no different.
Your opinions are one thing, but your facts are wrong.
This debate could go on forever.
If you look through the thread you can see that I didn't throw as much money as it would appear. Good or not, my "taste" is kind of what matters with this gaming setup. :)
I agree with you there, if you are happy with it then that is what matters. I looked at it for a few minutes, but you live there :) (For me, this station pushes all the wrong buttons)
You should just stop pushing your opinions onto OP. You clearly enjoy a sharp picture on a shitty small screen. Good for you, plenty of other gamers, like myself, enjoy a larger screen to be immersed in their game, yet still achieve a high quality level of visual display. If his setup pushes your buttons the wrong way, too fucking bad, I doubt OP could give a shit if you think you know more about monitors and PPI ratios, his setup is badass.
There are some beautiful gaming setups in the post. Much prettier than mine. Mine is more functional.. I used wrinkled posters without frames and that would not be acceptable by many of those standards. I just threw my personality into my gaming setup.. Functional, but a little messy.
Are you me? You have the exact same stuff that I would have if I could afford it. NASA, music and game posters.
It's not nearly as expensive as it looks. I find deals. The Synology was by fare the most expensive investment. But it truly was an investment to protect all my stuff. I found a woman and stopped having to have a nice ride. Now i drive a 13 year old jeep. The lack of payments allows me to put more into my living space.
As much as I like my car, 3 years into my first 5 year auto loan I'm really starting to think about this like... a lot. I could be buying a lot of really cool stuff with my car payment every month. Next time, getting something less expensive. Hopefully keeping this one a while first.
That's exactly why I posted the comment about my ride. As I got older, I realized I spent way more time out of my ride than in it, lol.
Just curious, why all the Synology gear instead of building yourself a big NAS box, or buying cheap rackmount gear? Did you need/want features Synology provides but can't be easily reproduced with a DIY setup (generally curious, I've not looked into them too extensively)?
I went from a fantastic 13 drive Unraid that I ran since 2009 to this. I never lost any data, but I sure was starting to worry. ZFS and uRaid is how I arrived at researching a higher end solution. My library of content started to soar to a point that I feared losing the data. I debated building another Unraid and doing backups. But the price with new drives reviled a Synology 8-12 bay. I also wanted an iSCSI solution which none of those provide. I got a deal on the 1813+ and pulled the trigger. I am very glad I did.
13 year old Jeep? I'd say that's a hell of a nice ride!
Its not too bad... except that the heater doesn't work and the back left window stopped working... and the back hatch sometimes doesn't work... and the electric passenger seat doesn't work... But... it gets me to work and is still pretty comfy outside of winter. I live in texas so winter barely exists.
Well damn, if you can afford all this stuff I bet you can afford to get the heat fixed! it probably isn't that big of an issue.
What projector are you using and how do you have it setup with your comp and other components?
I have 2 videos cards and dual head my center screen. I run a really long HDMI out to the projector room and that HDMI carries the digital sound signal as well. For controllers i run a really long USB cable and hooked a USB hub up in the stand. Then Boom... XBOC controllers in the movie room. When i want to play anything installed on my main computer I just revert the sound to my video cards HDMI.
How/ Where are you streaming the crystal clear football? Everything I have been able to find to toss on my projector is pixelated to hell :(
Oh my god. My wife says my setup is ridiculous and its nowhere near as badass as this.
40tb.. I have trouble filling up my 4tb drives.
It doesn't take much when you start storing whole series of HD tv.
I have 10TB all filled up. I started switching to 720 rips because I am running out of space.
Im sitting at 14tb of unique data. Mostly bluray rips in the 30 to 40 gb range and 2 or 3 tb of tv music pictures games programs.
Um, wow! Your racing setup is amazing!
Can we be friends? I'm dead serious.
And now i have to change my pants.
I'd love to have that projector for the NFC Championship.
What kind of projector is that? I'm looking to buy a project for the living room for gaming and movie watching.
Where can i get that amazing space wallpaper?
I just found them on Amazon. like 2-10 bucks each. :)
Whats your desk? Where can I get one?
Ikea, I bought half from Ikea years ago and the other half from craigslist.
Glad to see another Team Lotus fan here!
Can you link the Samsung 40"? Is it a tv or a monitor? Is there input lag? Sorry for all the questions, this is gaming setup porn
This reminds me of Swiftys old setup before he was real big like he is now, even with other computer with the TV
Good god. My dream station. Maybe one day I can be as cool as you OP. Do you like a link to your background by chance?
:) I posted a link above.
Could you post more specific specs? This is awesome :D
Going to replace the Lotus with a Ferrari for your wallpaper?
I have no brand loyalty... That was temporary for the pic because I didn't want to log into iRacing. I actually like NASCAR more than formula 1 :p /donthate!
As soon as I saw the large screens and chair I immediately thought racing. I assume that is amazing. Do you use any gauges when you race?
I would like to build a perm rig as some point in the garage. There I would use real gauges. For now I use DashMeterPro on Android.
Wow, THIS IS A BATTLE STATION. This is something that I would love to have!
How do you people afford this!?!?!?
Not true as of this week. My wife gets induced tomorrow. Her due date is today. :)
Congratulations man! You'll have to build a battle-station for your son/daughter when they can game with you ;)
Just because it looks expensive, doesnt mean it actually is! Bargins! Research!
Can I have your gaming setup's babies?
"Pretty decent rig" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!
I meant my specs be decent, not epic. :) Im running a i7 965 from 2009 on an x58 mobo. Nvidia GTX 670s are my best HW.
Nice place, also 40tb holy shit
Big fan of the racing gear. Is that F1 steering wheel for the simulator or just s display thing?
5.2 audio means separate subs for left and right channel right? If yes, that's something I've been wanting to do forever. It's like a theater in your home
No, its just 2 subs. LFE has no left/right channels. With proper sub-tuning you shouldn't be able to tell where the bass is coming from
The human ear can't really tell where base is coming from. That's why you can place them wherever mostly.
Nice setup! Which model are those monitors?
I wouldn't suggest purchasing and using TVs as monitors without a LOT of research. Or you could just by those. :)
Link to your wallpaper please?
I want to be you.
Could you explain how your 40tb server(?) works? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but it looks like something I might be interested in setting up :)
Look up Synology products, pretty awesome little enclosures. Not cheap though.
What type of desk is that?
I want to be your friend
Not anymore. I chose PLex plus ROKU for several reasons.
I've been subbed here for half a year and this is the best setup I've seen yet. It's all beautiful, especially the 40 TB of storage and the 125" display. That's ridiculous.
What do you do for a living?
This is very impressive. I just finished my first build (currently in college) but I dream of building a computer setup as elegant as yours sir.
Hey guys, look at me. I'm rich as fuck. '-'
Or I could have saved 15 bucks on my auto insurance with Geico for enough months to purchase some fun stuff.
Is that RIFT on her screen?
I'm quite interested in doing something similar with a low power CPU for storage and whatnot. Could you go into more detail with how it's setup and how exactly you use it?
The server is powered by a i5 3470S 65watt CPU, 16GB RAM, old SSD. Its iSCSIed to an array on the Synology. This is the only computer in the how we never turn off. The shuttle plus Synology idle at around 50 watts give or take a few. I use it for a lot of personal stuff for my family.
That the CMStorm trigger mech keyboard?
Can you link the bass kickers please + bit of info about the setup? I'm wondering about getting some of those and not sure if its worth it.
Nice setup, Bill Gates. :p
Well played sir, well played. Everything was already top notch. Then the last photo just shot it through the roof.
Fuck you because I know a lot of people don't even know how jellly/expensive those green lights are on your Synologies are.
Yes... that is my most expensive toy by far... I went from an unraid to the synology.
