3 Monitors - Computer Setup

Comments

3 GTX 680s and 1 monitor o.0 What are you doing with this machine?
I hope that's atleast a 1440p screen
Doesn't look like it, unfortunately. Assuming OP is using the default size for desktop shortcuts, he would be able to fit 14 icons vertically. He's currently sitting at 11, which is more than the 10 that a 1920x1080 allows, but less than the 14 slots you get on a 2560x1440.
Good detective work. That was fun to read :)
And you forgot you can adjust the size of the icons, I myself use small icons so I can fit 14 vertically with 1920x1080.
Naw, took that into consideration:
Exactly, why ruin my beautiful background with those ugly desktop shortcuts. Anything i need (Chrome, Steam, Spotify, VLC, Office) is all on the start bar. Keep it clean people.
That's what I like to hear!
Might not be your usual sort of thing but I'd definitely recommend checking out Rainmeter and RocketDock.
Haha thanks, yeah ive heard about rainmeter and for a long time couldnt wait to install it when i finally built my PC. However after building it i'm finding myself oddly surprised and satisfied with Windows 8 with my next 'upgrades' being Start8 and/or Emcee.
The only thing I can think of is Litecoin mining or Folding@Home or something...
Pretty sure he is talking about currency mining. The currency (bitcoin/litecoin) is created by running computations through GPUs.
Nvidia is useless for mining...
Indeed, I have an nvidia myself and any serious miner would use an ASIC or at least Radeon HDs. It's the only thing nvidia cards aren't really good at, that and lara croft's hair.
Oh, sounds cool. Where does this get you?
Just gives you virtual currency. There's a big debate about whether or not it'll last, but there's tons of news articles on it if you want to read more. These days mining is much harder than it used to be due to scarcity measures.
I assume you mean bitcoins, and if you do then he would be far better off with AMD cards.
You can't really mine bitcoins on Nvidia cards but you can mine litecoins on Nvidia so he probably did mean litecoin.
I would say you can't really mine litecoins either on Nvidia, unless you have cash to burn to pay for it. In some quick research, a 670 could be expected to get a ~200kh/s rate. In comparison, a mere 5850 could get ~350kh/s, and a 7950 could get ~650kh/s.
Can you explain this to me? I know about bitcoins, but I'm not sure what mining them is and how graphics cards and kh/s's come into play. Just interested.
Mining = the bitcoin or litecoin or etc. distributed computing network that ensures the whole system of money is secure and encrypted. It takes a lot of computing power, similar to Folding@Home in a way. In return for providing this computing power, miners are rewarded with coins (until all the coins are found and then the reward will be coins from fees I believe).
Oh okay. Interesting. So you can actually make a profit if your energy costs are less than what you're "mining." Very interesting! Thanks.
You can still mine with Nvidia cards it just doesn't make sense. I used to mine bitcoins with my 5970 and it crushed everything, I sold about 10 bitcoins when they were $20 a pop, so mad I didn't wait until they were crazy high like they are now.
I'm sorry dude. You are totally right... you were downvoted out of pure ignorance.
You can mine Litecoins as well. Are you even aware that Litecoin exists?
No idea what they are, can I have some info on them?
Basically, it's the same concept as Bitcoin.
I assumed as such, might as well stick to the better established Bitcoin market.
Well, Litecoin is the same concept as Bitcoin but has several benefits that make it better for everyday usage. There is a much higher cap (possibly no cap, not sure) on the number of coins so they will naturally be lower priced per coin and blocks are found every 2.5 minutes instead of every 10 so transactions are processed and verified much faster.
Just from reading the Wikipedia article you can see that there is a cap to how many coins there are.
My exact thought after double taking to check that I saw that right.
BF3 at max settings, never dropping below 80fps? If I had the cash, I'd do it.
Could well do renderings with iray like I do with mine. Or just wanted to flash his e-penis, also like I did.
Wow OP, answer this question please. I'm losing my mind hoping this isn't one huge mistake on your part. Of course, you can always do what you want - even if it's 3 680's for one monitor cringe.
Dual Monitors are of the past, its all about those dual PC's now.
All that and one monitor..plus you have two desktops
How many watts for the PSU?
Same processor same cooler.. Good choice. :D
So you have 3 680s? I can only assume you have 3 more monitors hiding somewhere.
We have a very different idea on what few means.
I'm sorry, What was the name of that bank you knocked over again???
Those cards are sorta overkill.
Nothing is overkill. This is the internet, after all.
All I can honestly say is wow. What resolution/games are you running to justify those 3 cards?
Maybe it is a 140hz monitor
Even then... THREE GTX 680s?
My god, the heat in those GTX 680s!!! What are you doing to make sure they don't suck heat from each other being so close together?
Nothing you can do really. Just make sure you have enough airflow in the case. They will get hot, but nothing that is dangerous for the cards.
That is so overkill it hurts.
He could have had 4 GTX Titans
I think I hate this bot more and more every comment.
I said "holy shit" out loud when I saw the three 680s!
I said holy shit and r hen noticed that they were 680s
What's the purpose for the 3 680's?
LoL just a few dollars, looks good nice build!
3 GTX 680s is complete overkill and a waste of money...
Some people like overkill even though they don't have Eyefinity/NV3D.
Curious what the fan controller is on the front of your case? Is that built-in or something?
But who was desk space?
Nice, What are you using to backlight your monitor?
How are the GPUs not sagging? My 6950s sag like old woman tits.
What does that even mean?
Come on OP. Deliver already.
Do you need the cases on the desk? It looks pretty cramped and uncomfortable like that even if the specs are awesome
What's the smaller machine for?
OP doesn't understand a few or a little
My car is on your background. :)
Holy balls, what could you possibly be doing that requires that much power. I don't think it is possible for you to get a drop in performance even if you tried with that beast. I hope you have fun with it.
What temps do you get with the 680's on air?
I dont think you know what the word few means
Why are there 2 fans on the bottom of the case, what are they cooling exactly?
What kind of desk?
Overkill with the 680s..... i'm running 1 of those with 3 monitors and it kills it.
That better be a god damn good monitor! Would be a shame seeing those beautiful 680s go to waste.
Great looking setup. With that said, what is the purpose for buying 3 680's?
Hot shit three 680's, that is awesome dude. Great looking build as well.
What is on the front of the case?
Maybe you should have save a buck or two for a bigger desk, another monitor, or shit, maybe just some Velcro for all those damn wires!
Do the lights annoy you? I see the back lights behind people's monitors a lot and I feel it would just bug the shit out of me.
A few dollars? Wow, the exchange rate must have rocketed, or you found some really, really cheap website
Not a fan of the purple lights or your case in general. Aside from that, your desk is too small and extremely cluttered, and it looks like there are cables everywhere. Your desktop background isn't the right dimensions, and I personally don't like having a bunch of shortcuts on my desktop.
Why 3 motherfucker?!...no hate just axing'
Is it odd I fapped to this?
