Badass Monitors - Computer Setup

Comments

How tall are you? Seriously
I'm about 190cm ;D monitors are set up perfectly for me
That's 6'3" for those of us living in backwards America.
+1 for referring to imperial units as backwards.
Is that +1 metric points?
These can also be acquired by shooting down Tie fighters.
Wouldn't that be +10 rebel points?
I also like my monitors nice and high.
Nice setup man. Those speakers look really sexy. You need to do something about that desktop background though :p
I love the butterfly monitor holder.
I was sure someone would have asked before, but it doesn't look like it. What is the brand/model of those speaker stands?
He had it in another reply (I had to go looking :)
Its a lexicon io22. its alright, but get a few issues with glitches and such. Got a focusrite interface under my desk for special occasions, but its nice having the volume control on the table
What are those speaker stands and how much? They look perfect for my desk.
Uh... thanks for the link, but I think I'll just buy some k'nex. $100? Really?
There's a lot more to them than just lifting them.
Yeah WTF. Just go buy some small metal wire shelving.
When you've spent more than $2000 on speakers, an extra $100 can't hurt.
Yep. I'm really impressed with these IsoAcoustics stands. I've used foams which can still sound as muddy as having the monitors on the desk.
Yeah those are nice speakers, they make my M-AUDIO BX5d look like little school girls.
Sorry, what? My Rockit 8s were $550 for the pair, I think the VXTs are about double that. How much did you spend on that subwoofer?
Speakers were £649 ($997) inc tax, sub was £699 ($1074)
I've been looking for small desktop stands just like these. I think I'll order a set for my M-Audio BX5a's. Are they plenty sturdy? Any downsides?
No downsides. they can hold my 15kg vxt 6s and then some. I think they're rated to 30kg
Oh, wow. It looks a LOT like the apogee quartet.
I do now. The hardest thing is still having shift in the wrong place. The number of times i've lost posts by doing CTRL+R or CTRL+W is unbelievable
Doesn't restore the post content D:
I own the Lexicon IO42 but I haven't set it up yet since I don't have the speakers I want just yet. What are the glitches you are talking about, just so I can keep them in mind when I set it up.
The glitches are from the computer, i think it might be high latency spikes caused by flash or gpu applications.
Glitches are caused mainly by drivers not installed properly. Most of the time the driver installer will tell you "You are good to go!" and give you no problems, but they might glitch out. You need to reinstall the driver. I have an Audiobox USB, and I installed the driver multiple times before I can actually enjoy a glich free beat!
In other words, the most badass monitors KRK make... I have Rokit 5's, wish I could afford VXT's!!
Do you like your Rokit 5's I've been thinking about getting some.
I have the Rokit 5's (g2 of course). And they are amazing. Seriously. You don't really need more for a room.
How is the bass response for them? would I need to get a sub with them?
It goes down to 52hz. For music you should be fine. Movies are good but not excellent. Best speakers for 300$ though. Subwoofer would cost at least another 300...
Absolutely. They sound amazing especially considering the price. Couldn't recommend them more, especially over a mid-range home theatre system or consumer 2.1 computer speakers
Yeah, right now I've got a ten year old creative 5.1 setup that I am getting ready to retire.
My audio production teacher has those speakers, they are amazing speakers.
Why buy studio monitors for your primary speakers? Unless you are constantly producing music
Studio monitors are just good speakers, they work great for general listening
They are completely audio standard, meaning they come with no pre EQing done. They are designed for that reason because producers use them to produce music.
And they sound fantastic... I fail to see your point.
Not sure why you are getting downvoted. You are exactly correct.
I agree with you. Completely.
Not if you want to enjoy music or games/movies. Honestly, good monitors make things sound like shit so you can pick out the flaws.
They re-produce music and sounds accurately as they were recorded, some people like it
Yes, but does general usage consist of listening to things with primarily excellent audio quality? Why would I want to be blasted with sibilance every time I watch a Youtube video or hear all of the compression artifacts when playing a game?
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
Yes he does, monitor speakers make everything flat. They are for MIXING, not for watching Transformers. If they were just "good speakers", then they wouldn't be called monitors, would they? Things might still sound better than an old shitty pair of speakers you used to have, but for the money NOBODY should be buying monitors for entertainment use, because that is not what they are designed for. Spend the money on speakers that are for regular use, and you'll get a much better experience for less money.
Depends on the monitors. Low end monitors (like KRK rokits) are anything but flat.
They're not really monitors, they're more like DJ speakers.
I was talking about the part where he said "monitors make everything sound like shit". For everyday listening I actually use my dt880s but the odd time I like to experiment with speakers. And eq-ing is quite easy to do, when desired. At any rate, a good source through somewhat decent monitors sounds delightful (mine are Yamaha hs50Ms).
The yellow is kinda cool. I'd buy them because they're more expensive than regular pc speakers and bigger and heavier and probably louder (see: bigger and heavier.) Plus, yellow.
I love the communist party poster :)
Can you throw out some specs on the speaker gear? I've got a set of m-audios that I'm considering moving to in lieu of the Logitech 5.1s, and am curious how to go about setting up a proper pair of studio monitors...
Very nice. I can't imagine what that subwoofer sounds like. My KRK Rokit 6's are plenty for me!
I'm also curious how that sub sounds. I have an addition. I'm wondering how they compare to my BIC F12's.
Its loud. It packs a real punch but needs to be driven hard otherwise it sounds a bit wooly.
It looks like you have it in a fairly small room from what the pictures so. I know placement meant a world of difference when I was setting up my subs.
I'm currently at University so I don't really have a choice of the room. When I graduate, I'd like to build a project studio or something. I've got plenty of room at my parents house if I need to squat there for a year.
I'd try about one foot away from a corner in the room, probably doesn't matter which corner. I had the same issue when I lived in a duplex at my university.
I love them monitors. Do you mix as a hobbyist or is it your profession?
Im a CS student at the moment. Been a musician since i was 5 and working in live sound since I was 13. Currently play trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar and synth. Mixed FOH and monitors for several large bands too.
Have a link to the case? It looks amazing!
Its a Lancool K1 with a 4 bay startech sata backplane
What do you do about sound bothering neighbours?
They work during the day. I work from home.
What kind of headphones do you have?
Beyer DT770s are what I generally use when I'm not on serious business.
I have those cans too. 80ohm version. Do you use any sort of amp/dac with them?
Just plug em in to the headphone hole on my IO22 or laptop
So I guess you have the 80ohm version too then.
What monitors / stand is that? Looks brilliant.
Cool set up. I have 6's to but yours look rather rounded? Or is it just the picture?
Ah cool :D I couldn't really read what they said. They look pretty much the same as Rokit 6's
Speakers: "Are you still there?"
Awesome! What size are your rokits? I got the 2nd gen 8's and they're amazing, still need to sub to finish it off though!
Not looking forward to placing my sub when I get it.
What receiver/amp/audio control is that?
Which Razer mouse is that?
Good to see someone on here with proper near field monitors, not shitty commercial speakers!!
