Gaming Setup - Computer Setup

Nice job(same case as me) and i just relized...my psu is upside down...GOD DAMN IT.(and it aint modular...well this is going to be a bitch to move)
You can have your PSU either way. The way mine is facing it intakes fresh air from outside the case, the other way it will intake the air from within the case which may be hot due to the GPUs.
So the psu is more or less pulling hot air into it and pushing it out ?
It works but it can destroy your psu in the long run
Well I wouldn't worry that much about the extra heat from taking hot air from inside the case actually doing damage to it (unless you have a horrible quality PSU)
I just added a fan so it has more air flow in the case :)
No, it really can't. That is a huge misconception.
Here is a picture of my complete Gaming setup with headset and all!
Time for a new desk? I'd recommend the Ikea Malm Desk With Pull-Out Panel for 130$.
This is temporary place for my PC because I'll be moving in a dorm next month.
Well get ready for shit internet when you move into your dorm
I actually have fiber optic Internet in my dorm
You lucky son of a bitch I was lucky to load YouTube videos in under 5 minutes
When I was in the dorm we got between 90-120 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. It was a research university with all fiber connections though.
How are you liking the Source 210. Just ordered it 10 minutes ago.
I love it! There is plenty of space behind the motherboard for cable management. There is enough room for very long GPUs. Nice sleek design that definitely isn't over the top. Lots of room for case fans... Excellent case for the money! Once again, I love it!
Nice. Loving the computer setup. Have fun with it.
Thank you! All i need now is a new keyboard! :)
Are your front USB ports upside down? Mine are and I'm not sure if its supposed to be that way or not...(I have the same case). It doesn't bother me too much, but just curious.
Yes they are, a lot of cases are this way.
For some reason I found this hilarious...
Love cold cathode lighting, but I fucking hate that annoying blue LED in the box. Personally, I opened the box and twisted off the LED. It's so damn bright, it out shines the red cathodes.
I kind of like the blue LED because my monitor light is blue and my Corsair m65 mouse is also blue, and that is why I have the box so visible. Also, Murica.
Dude, awesome post. But PLEASE, do some more cable management! It's not bad at all, and with a proper tidy up, it could look awesome. I have some of the same Cathodes, and I removed the PCI slot cover switch and hid it in the back of my case, along with the sound activated bullshit. Run the wire from the cathode under your hard-drive cage.
:) thanks for the recommendation!
Cable management is impossible with my old PSU and cheap'o Antec case :( Sucks...
I kind of preferred the blue LED to show because it matched my monitors light, and my M65 mouse.
The blue LED from the sound box?
Looks amazing considering that it's not some uber expensive custom mod which requires owning a whole workshop.
I just preferred there because they give a constant red glow as opposed to a glow from each individual LED. And for $14 I can always replace them, no big deal.
What kind of a mousepad is that? Me gusta.
XTrac Ripper XXL. I recommend it very much! Soft and slides the mouse perfectly! You can get it on Amazon
I too cannot recommend this enough. It's so cheap and works amazingly! The only thing that sucked was how much it smelled when I first got it, but after it aired out it was fine.
DAMN! That is gorgeous. :)
By the way this gaming setup is temporary because I will be moving into my new dorm at the end of the month!
What is the gaming surface you've got? (the huge mouse pad) lol
Nice way of doing it yourself!
Wow, great work! I wish I could be a bit more handy myself. By the way I really like you wallpaper, can you provide me with a link?
Does the cathode actually activate by sound? I had it before and I don't think it actually worked that way.
If I flip the switch in the back it with flash to every bass beat or spoken word, you can adjust the sensitivity for your preference
Oh, so that's what the switch did in the back.
Thats some proper modding right there!
Fuckin' awesome. Saving this for later. My 200mm side fan doesn't fit in my Phantom with my 140 Havik cooler. So i was thinking about what I should do. I was considering grabbing the Phatom Window side panel but making a larger window would be much better.
Go BIG or go home :)
I personally like the Blue LED. Gives it a kind of cool fire and Ice lighting effect.
Thank you, you are the only person to like it haha
I was thinking about doing this with blue LEDs. how long did it take you?
Well my dremel bits crumbled to dust mid way and I had to run to Lowes to get more, but id say if you had all the materials ready then probably about 30 minutes - 1 hour depending on the size.
This makes me nostalgic of the case modding days where cases didn't come with windows and only came in beige.
What is the thing sitting above your keyboard with the different colored key caps?
I got a Cherry MX switch sample kit and I made a lego testing station for them. :) Blues, Browns, Reds, and Blacks!
The sunlight made the picture not as bright as it really is
Whats the name of the drill you use to cut the side panel? Would like to get a proper drill for my mod ill be doing on a NZXT Phantom. :)
Holy shit thats the same case I have and I've been meaning to do exactly this.
No it was not difficult at all, definitely worth the time! You feel more attached to the case when you do it yourself! :)

Seems like you got a little carried away with the replies eh?
It lies flush with the U channel molding
Internet goofed and left me with 3 comments haha
Do you have a link to those cold cathodes?
Thanks! Ordered in Blue :D
I have the same ones as OP they dont work good just get normal ones. Mine either here nothing and are off. Or when the volumes loud enough to activate the sound there always on.
Hmm yeah looking at the vid OP posted maybe I can combine it with a light organ and some LEDs
This is not my video, but this is the same thing.
Looks great. I have a similar light set up in my rig but with blue lights and they have been shinning bright for almost 5 years now.
Awesome! for $14 the CCFL are a steal!
Very nice old-school mod right there.
Nice job, reminds me of the days case modding had to be done by hand instead of the buy cases with built in windows and vents and such.
Nice simple little mod that makes it that much more personal. Have tried the sound reactive before, they are meh. Sounds like a good idea but they are a bit annoying to get to work right.
I just have them on normal mode most of the time.
Ya, they do a great job of lighting up a case but when you put it to music and it kinda randomly lights up it is a little meh. I use a method of mounting them which works awesome.
I just used the mounting tape I used on the windows to stick the ends on
Wow, I just got the same exact cathodes yesterday and installed mine this morning!
Very well done. Nice job man, looks good.
What is that thing up the top of your mousepad, with the four keycaps?
It's my Lego key switch test station:3 I'll take a close up and put it in the post
:O what do you use it for? I know "testing switches" but do you seriously put like 4 different cherry mx switches and click-clack for a few minutes? Or does it actually connect to your computer/have some functions?
Its for deciding which switches I want in my future keyboard :) Has no function to the computer.
I posted an up close picture near the bottom of this post :)
What window trim are you using. i never really got around to buying some for my window mod. where did you get yours from?
I love the u channel tubing. It really makes the window look professionally done. If you don't mind me asking for the link to the product? Great job by the way!
I've always had a question about the cathode lights. When you turn the computer off, they shut off too right? and when you turn it on, they turn on as well?
Nope, it is hooked up to your power supply, so it turns on and off with your pc without you having to do anything :)
Do this for mine pls.
Requesting that Desktop Wallpaper in the last picture
I love them so much :)
Me too! It was my cheap option over astros was not disapointed.
Good work man. It's nice to see people keeping the old school case modding alive.
I'm only 18 so technically I'm in the new generation to PC building, but i loved the experience of some hands on work!
I'm going to warn you right away: those cold cathodes should be monitored closely. They will begin to burn and start to melt (and nearly catch fire) if they're faulty. I bought one that was blue and it worked fine for months then decided to buy a red one as well. I plugged them up individually to their own sound-activated case so I could control them both to their own degree. The red one failed after a few minutes so I plugged it up to the first original sound-activated kit I got. Both worked fine. A few days later and I smelled a strong burning smell and instantly turned off my pc and discovered it was hot and burnt out.
Learned from the MNPCtech video huh?
Out of everything you did I have the most upright respect for using double sided tape.
What is the keyboard/control thing by your monitor? Are they different Cherry MX mechanical switches?
Yup! My Lego MX switch test station
As a teenager I wanted the first computer I built myself to have all kinds of blue interior lighting. After building the desktop and getting it all set up. I decided it was time for some rest. Since I was a teen living with my parents (free energy) I decided I'd just leave the PC on 24/7. I then realized I had made a huge mistake -_-
Why are there only 3 pictures of your gaming setup?
Because there isn't much more to show
I remember doing this 15yrs ago :P
You should poke some holes into that acrylic sheet. It can serve as a place to put case fans. Looking at the size, I would say at least 2 would fit.
I hate the look of drilled windows. That is why I did not do them.
Not that i hate the effects but cold cathode? seriously? This is 2013 get some LED's in that bad mamajama!
Looks like you were... Cutting corners.
