Gaming Setup - Computer Setup

You're awesome, and this needs to happen in my home.
This is beautiful. A few questions about the table though...
Thanks for the reply! :)
You can actually control the table display with an IR pen and a Wii controller. There's several tutorials online, but basically you mount the wii controller pointed down at the table and you can use the pen to control it.
Are the cut corners of BSG influence?
I'm sorry, what exactly is this?
Its his Dream Gaming setup sir.
I mean what is the purpose of the projected table thing and the monitor? I've never seen something like this, what is the point/advantage?
Holy shit. Well now I need a projector.
Thats awesome man! Sounds like a lot of fun honestly
If you get maps like that I believe r/DnD would love you
I couldn't see the point at first either, but this makes sense and seems incredible!
Would be awesome for game maps, personal tips, shortcuts etc and an awesome way to 'Always leave a note. '
All i have to say, go to bestbuy and buy a leapmotion. enjoy awkward touch screen
That plus a touchscreen setup on the table would be intensely badass. all you would need is a holographic projector to be full sci-fi gaming setup.
Those are awesome! I would totally flail my arms in front of the screen for that kind of functionality.
Looks really cool, but I've gotta ask... why the hell did you bevel the corners of the screen/table? To me that just reduces your effective screen size and not utilizing the whole space would bother the crap out of me. Not criticizing necessarily, but I've sat here for 5 minutes trying to come up with a reason for doing so and I just can't justify it in my head. xD
No problem dude lol, its a good question. I just really like octagons. They're really easy to build and always seem to get more of a response from people than rectangular builds. (albeit, sometimes they don't like octagons haha) On top of that, when I was designing the table, I had to build it around the size that the projector screen would be. I wanted the coffee table to be 18" tall, which fixed the throw distance that the projector would have. At a fixed distance below the ceiling, the screen size couldn't have been any bigger anyway. From there I was able to play around with the table's shape, keeping in mind not to cut off any part of the screen.
Haha fair enough. I figured it was just a preference sort of thing, but thought there might be a technical reason as well. Thanks for not getting offended and actually answering!
Looks good! I'm curious about your projectors. What kind and how many lumens? I really like the theme and look of everything. Good job!
I am using an Optoma pk301 for the table, and an Optoma HD65 for the wall. I don't know the lumen count off the top of my head but I'll have to look into it. Thank You!
This looks awesome, I had pretty much the same questions about the table as an above poster. It'd be cool to eventually take that concept and make it a sort of touch screen.
Thank you! Converting it to a touch screen is eventually my plan. I made the projector screen a separate piece so I can replace it with an acrylic screen and an Infrared array for touch sensing. One of the big problems is spills though. I don't want to put any electronics in here until I can be sure I can protect this thing from my own clumsiness. O_o
Haha! Definitely will have to set it up and then cover it up nicely somehow. Clumsy proof it is going to be priority #1. But seriously, great job! And the pictures made it seem like it was hard work but not super complex! makes me want to do some DIY's.
So, I'm not super comfortable with these sorts of things, but if you can mount a waterproof layer (the acrylic screen?) over the electronics, then can't you just caulk/silicone seal that around the edge and it'll be good? Or Is the screen an electronic component as well? I'm imagining you continuing to project down on top of a touch sensing array.
Just wonderful. Can you give us the wallpaper you're using on the projector?
Very cool! I'm half tempted to recreate your projector table, put the projector under it, with glass on top for protection.
Is that a microphone hanging from the ceiling? And if so, what purpose does it serve?
Yep, that's a microphone. It's setup so that when I have an insatiable, drunken need to sing badly in Rockband, I can do so at a moment's notice.
I'm really glad you fixed that big crease on the screen in some of the first pictures where it is up on the wall.
The geek is strong in this one!!
Love the battlestar galactica screen. Down with right angle corners!
Love the end result
