I have £200 to last me 3 months, I think that's pretty low on funds.

I'm not sure why this was downvoted, £200 to last 3 months is pretty bad. Especially if you have to travel, or eat. In fact, it might just about cover food.

Pretentious internet super-hero's that downvote and pretend they are better than her for thinking £200 isn't a lot, and that all the poor africans are doing worse.

It really pisses me off. I'm a student originally from the UK and I would never be able to survive a single month of purchasing decent healthy food from a supermarket on 200 pounds. If you can't afford to eat proper meals then you're definitely poor by my book.

Something tells me most people downvoting you are some 'muricans that are able to shop at their Wulmurts and Costcosts. Cost of living is generally higher in Europe, and last time I was in England (live across the pond) it wasn't that much lower than Scandinavia, and I'm hardly able to make it on 250 GBP (400 USD) a month.

$200 in America won't get you a month's rent. I think that's where it's coming from. Someone's paying for her for something, so there is money if things happen.

It's £200 after I've paid my rent. I pay it in 3 month blocks. And no one pays for anything for me. If things happen, I am royally boned.

Is it even possible to make 200£ last for three months in GBR? For what I know prices in Great Britain are not much lower than in Scandinavia and I'd bet it would be impossible here to manage one month with 200£ (or about 240€) if you'd have to pay the rent, electricity, water, cell phone and food.

My rent is £375 a month, I can't last a month on £200, not even close.

I've thought rents would be higher in London, given that you couldn't get any apartment under 500€ in Helsinki.

I share with 3 friends, all together it's 1500 a month and I live in a unusually cheap house in a cheap area, most of my friends pay around 1800 in total for four bedrooms (including the box room).

IIRC, she doesn't have a job (it'd interfere with studies), and that's all that's left after she's paid her rent.

See, I've had this argument applied to me a few times, a xbox 360 now will get you what, £40 if you're lucky? So that's 2 weeks of food if you really stretch it, then what? Selling items you have is not a sustainable income, and can be detrimental to your mental wellbeing (£10 on a used xbox game is much cheaper than £10 on a single night out).

I invested a lot of money into my build when I started college because it was a huge necessity, but for the rest of my years I was on a strict budget where I couldn't spend money for anything else except a little food and Sallie Mae payments. Actually, mainly Sallie Mae. The computer was the happy center of my room because I put all my effort into saving for it. I didn't have much else.

What the fuck. Where did you buy it from? Who spends enough on a I7 to throw it in a case like that with a 120 dollar graphics card? Like what's the point.

Mine came with an i7 2600k but a GT 530. This was before I knew anything about pc's though. Since then I've added an SSD and a GTX 770.

PC World (british computer superstore thing), I'm gonna upgrade all the crappy parts when I've got money, but for now it will have to do.

Shitty parts or not, she's at least got a computer. It's better than hanging on to 1-2 good parts but not enough for a full computer. Seems it'll be a while before she gets enough money to upgrade.

Then the less of your budget you spend in retail mark-up the better. Lots of solid prebuilds else where. PC world is like a 1000x shitter version of Best Buy, where the "IT Techs" just trawl your HDD for personal files to steal and reformat to fix minor faults/cover tracks.

She said in other comments that she needs a decent computer in order to run the software she needs for her schoolwork. If the best she can do is a computer from PC World, then so be it.

There are other uses for computer than gaming. If you're into arts, digital drawing, graphic design etc you'll do just fine with ~$100 graphics card - RAM and processor matters the most.

Am I the only one that would rather not date a gamer girl? I hate a lot of male gamers as it stands, and then there's the added layer of the female gamer stereotype. I'd much rather date a girl who could teach me about what she likes and I could about this stuff. I also don't think that people account for the fact that you might need processing power for some of the classes you are enrolled in (not that I could have a clue). Music and design peeps get a lot of flac for having any kind of decent PC while they are on a budget- sometimes it is necessary!

It really is necessary, I've been using laptops in the past and they don't have the power I need to run the programmes I use and then the laptops end up crapping out after 8 or 9 months. It's easier to have a good pc rather than pay £400 every year I need a new laptop.

Yeah, I was lucky in finding a house which had extremely decent rent for the area.

The main reason I don't have a job is because I know my work will suffer if I get one, it's hard to balance stuff out properly. Hopefully I'll be able to get a summer job and save up enough to not have to worry about money next year.

I spent my last student loan instalment ever on an i7 3770k... And then left uni with it :) one day I'll pay it back...

Trying to find a summer job in a big city is pretty hard, because everyone is looking for summer jobs. And the systems stupid, my mum earns enough for them to lower the amount of loan I get but not enough to support me, after she's paid her rent and sorted out funds for the rest of the month there's nothing left over.

Same here, the upper cut off is far too low. Especially as my my dad is a contractor who was earning last tax year (where they calculate student loans from) but isn't working at the moment so he can't give me any money.

My girlfriend just got that tablet for Christmas and she's in love with it. It's a pretty major upgrade from her old Bamboo. What kind of work do you do with it?

Mostly digital paintings, it's really good for stuff like that, the pressure tool is amazing for getting a realistic theme.

I just picked up one of those drawing tablets this semester for architectural sketches. I am also a lefty (but I use my mouse with my right hand)

They're brilliant, I'd definitely recommend them. The only issue I've seen is that if you'd rather use it wirelessly, they kit to do that is an extra £30, which sucks a bit.

They're worth the investment, the last Wacom tablet I had lasted almost 4 years before I had to replace it.

Nice setup, did you try to come with a build of your own with the price of the prebuilt? because you can really get better parts and enjoy putting it together

Quite possibly, but either way I'm sure loans aren't fun at all. My best friend just had to get one, and it didn't look like something I'd want to have to deal with lol. And especially not fun if you already have other types of payments to make.

Oh yeah I don't mean to take anything away by making it sound like the money they have to pay now is 'small' but compared to 20-30k a year (depending on where you go and what you do) is crazy.

Uk student loans aren't messed up in the same way, ours are paid off as a percentage of any earnings over 21k before tax and don't affect credit scores

The xbox was a present from my brother, one monitor is an old tv and the other one came with the computer. Just because i have stuff doesn't mean that I've bought it myself.

What is not having variety for $500. Only playing Call of Duty and saying you're a gamer is like saying you're a stamp collector and only having one stamp.

How so? It's pretty accurate. Unless you play Treyarch and Infinity Ward CoD, then that's a whopping two stamps. I love Call of Duty, I'm not saying it's a bad game, but you can't have one game series and call yourself a gamer. This goes for guys and grills.
