Then why put the case on top of your desk? I never understand why people do this, noise, space, etc.
Oh how the tables have turned.
More-so relevant in modern times to the R9 290x. Same temperatures as the old Fermi cards AND it takes 50 more watts then that old flagship GTX 480. I owned a SLI 480 setup. Contrary to many assumptions, they both ran fine on a 850 watt PSU and only got to about 80. NOT the 90 that was widely spread. I am not sure I can say the same about the 290x.
1 is the HUD a normal thing for that keyboard....? cause i must have it. Also i have no clue what the airflow pro thing is.
It's a Logitech G15 keyboard. They're pretty useful for displaying monitoring data if you find the right plugins for it.
A question. Why would you cool your RAM with fans?
You wouldn't, it does nothing, there is no tangible performance benefit. it just looks cool
I wouldn't say it does nothing. Obviously it cools your ram. Lacking a standard tower CPU cooler, no air is drawn over the RAM like most builds.
You're being pedantic. if there is no benefit does it really do anything? no. if you don't have a headache why take a pain pill? it does nothing.
I personally find benefit from it, having heavily oc'd and overvoltaged ram. Silicon loses electrical stability at high temperatures and having a mostly liquid cooled build the airflow that a standard air cooled cpu provides to the ram and v-reg's isnt there, this makes up for that.
I know exactly what it does and what it would be useful for but ram never gets hot enough for fans to actually be useful... nor would this $60 one with LEDs be a good one to use. if you need airflow over your RAM, buy a real fan and point it in their direction. don't get 2x 30mms with LEDs.
Why does it bother you that he likes it? It's a beautiful setup. Good job OP!
Wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? You don't have to spend your money on it, but just because he sees value in it does not mean he lacks common sense.
I love how uneducated people who really knows nothing about RAM suddenly have a voice in how hot it gets and how hot it can get. Even the my Prodigy with three graphics cards constantly soaking the case in heat did not affect the RAM chips
Very cool. ill be sure to check these out, might even get a new keyboard
Is that software worth the $40? I have a G510 and I love having things for the screen but I don't know if I want to be spending just for little info like that.
Please tell me you wear the helmet when playing racing games.
Oh yeah, full immersion. Sometimes, I also wear it driving on the highway. I get the kind of looks you'd expect from people.
That's awesome. Fuck the haters
Do you do anything for sound when you have the helmet on when gaming? Speakers or earbuds?
I didn't see the helmet the first time I saw the picture and for some reason occulus rift popped into my mind. Then when I read your comment about driving with it on I imagined what driving with an occulus with full 360 cameras around the car would be like. Would it be legal? I'm sure you would get pulled over if a cop saw you and people who saw you would freak out.
Same exact question popped into my head... So happy the answer was yes!!!
Those sleeved cables look amazing. Nice job!
What's the game you are playing in picture 5?
I really wish people still made proper flight sims, but I guess they're just not really profitable any more.
They're profitable, but not in the current business model.
I can second for DCS, it's my favourite.
I like the look of DCS, but at the moment it just doesn't have a nice enough selection of aircraft to drag me away from trying to re-learn Falcon 4 BMS. Although I've heard rumours they're going to add the F18, which I would love because I player F/A-18 Super Hornet so much when I was 11, and it doesn't work on recent versions of Windows.
Not really a proper flight sim in the real sense, but you should try warthunder. It is pretty realistic in simulated battles
Warthunder isn't really a simulator.
You owe it to yourself to mod shift 2 with ptmu or ptmu&ntm. That game is pure shit unmodded.
It's all about that war thunder son
What LEDs are you using for the ambient lighting?
Twentyfive 12mm diffused digital RGB LED array.
Can you go into a little detail on how you get the LEDs to react to what is on the screen? I am very jealous.
Damn. Thanks for the information!
They pulled pi support for now 😥
I'm guessing that they are actually sound reactive, it just happens that sound in movies goes along with the picture.
Colors are matched a lot better irl. I can see how you would assume that its sound reactive since the ambient light colors don't match the screen as taken through in this video.
Ready for the oculus rift I see.
Wow, this stuff is pretty cool. Nailed it on the little details.
Same speakers here!
They bump pretty good :)
Very, very nice job. One of my favorites so far.
26in 1920x1200. Working up for a 30in and 20in on the left in portrait. Pour some out for my homie, 19:10.
Ugh, can't believe I messed that one up. Thanks. I'm leaving it to show my shame. Guess I'm not his real homie after all.
Where'd you get the sheathed cables?
What do you do for a living, if you don't mind me asking?
I have the same joystick, Logitech extreme 3D pro, I love it
What racing gmae is that? I have always loved Grand Turismo and Forza
Need for Speed Shift 2. My monitor accepts inputs from HDMI and I'll hook up my PS3 for Gran Turismo from time to time.
I only like simulation games, is it flashy flashy or is it a serious racer?
It's as serious as NFS will get. Not quite real physics but it does an amazing job for its pedigree. An impressive feature implemented in Shift 2 is the dynamic view while in the cockpit. As if you're actually driving, camera angle will slightly zoom in/out when you accelerate or decelerate as if your head is thrown back when you mash on the gas or you feel your body getting pulled forward as ABS chews on your right leg. It'll point and focus on the apex of a turn as you're already doing to get as close as you can to the zebra line to cut that tenth of a second off your lap. It really feels like you're in the car. Add the smell of petrol and burning rubber and we're good to go.
Lol no thanks. I'll stick to Formula 1. 0-100mph in 2.5 seconds _^
I hgot the same joystick as you. Despite the fact it hasn't got many features, it really does get the job done.
Throttle, hat switch, XYZ, 12 buttons, pretty good for me. Only thing better would be if every game could "talk" to my joystick, because some of games won't allow "push button to assign function" and that's fucking annoying to change 12 different buttons one-at-a-time.
DCS should work with it, when did you try it last?
January, did they add support for the old Logitech controller?
Looks like you are rdp'ed into a Server 2008 R2 system running hyper-v with a Server 2012 and ubuntu guest?
Ohhh the X-530's and X-540's...they we're the best of sound systems/money...why they ever quit selling those...is beyond me :/
I wish I could use my desktop when I WFH. Sure beats the shit out of the i5 laptop they give me at work. sigh
What steering wheel, pedals, and shifter do you use? Did they come together?
If you dont mind me asking, how did you get into working from home? It appears that you do something IT related, and as an IT major in college this is something that I would be very interested in.
Hey, sorry if you mentioned this in the description, but what's the case?
I too have the same case and I love it! Its spacious and seems to be built for excellent cable management. A little bulky on the out side due to the plastic shell that surrounds the metal frame which is probably the only negative thing I can think of. This is the first side panel I've had or seen that you just push down on the lever thingies and slip it off which is very easy and convenient. My case is the graphite color (which is a little cheaper than the white) but it also has an optional 4 fan mounts to the side panel. Anyways I'm starting to ramble, but I love this case.
I would live in constant fear of smacking my hand against that case. if i had to use that desk, i would find a random end table or even a milk crate for the tower to sit on.
You should give me a link to that background.
What kind of performance do you get from SLI 480? And I'd be curious to know what kind of temps you get too...
Can someone link me to the black and white cables? I have the same case as you btw :)
Please tell me you wear that helmet when driving
I envy your setup
If you don't own a Logitech joystick for flightsims then I don't want to know you.
Considering that CH and Thrustmaster also put out excellent joysticks, I'm sure that many flight sim fans would disagree with you. :)
Many, but not ubiquitous, not the average, sure there's all sorts of joysticks out there, but this is the most utilitarian, middle ground, low price, high functionality, pseudo ergonomic joystick ever made.
I would say it's widely available because you can find it in every Best Buy and some Wal-Marts, etc. But the best middle-ground, sub-$100, and quality joystick is the Thrustmaster T-16000M which uses hall effect sensors, something that's very hard to find for a "cheap" joystick, much less one that can often be found for $20 or $30 on sale.
Most people I know playing DCS use Saitek X52 or the HOTAS Warthog. ;)
I believe you, but I've got that childish mindset with "if I've never seen it, it doesn't exist"
Where did you find that bitching wallpaper, if you don't mind me asking?
Do you see a performance increase with 10k RPM vs the 7200RPM?
What racing game is that ?
Got a list on the specs? looks beastly. love your monitor btw. also hod did you get your custom cable sleeves? that seems to be pretty popular nowadays.
When did you put this build together?
I wonder what you download in Utorrent...
The reference made this post worth it :)
I need to stay far away from here when I'm building a new PC. You may have just cost me a few extra hundred dollars because I'm jelly.
Too little space for mouse. It doesn't even fit near the keyboard
Title makes me wish there was a good multiplayer Macross sim.
