Extra Monitors - Computer Setup

Comments

My question is: How can you live with only 2?
I have 3 monitors, I only use one thought, personally I think it is pointless.
You can give me yours. My old 17 inch gateway just shorted out, and now I'm stuck with a singular 11.6 inch 720p screen.
Im on a 10 inch screen..with 480p and a pc worht 50 bucks because of its age..dont you complain.
Oh, I'm not complaining. I love my pixel density. Its the eye strain :)
Stock that was what i used to use..gave it to a friend now i use a 15.6 inch sharp monitor :l its a POS just like my tv..(viewsonic that has a bunch of ghosted pixels.) not to mention my pc has a 16MB integrated card and i cant use a 64 MB jotac pci card i picked up from a guy online because my pc is a server board so its slots are backwards FFFFUUUUU
That's still pretty nice. Better than the second monitor I was using, which hailed from 1999.
I'm stuck with a 15" 4:3 ratio monitor... I think I win. BROKE HIGHSCHOOLERS UNITE
I have three monitors and all of them are in constant use. However, the third is a portrait (1200x1600) and only displays Foobar.
It depends what you're doing. I used to not be able to quite use two monitors fully at my job. Now it's uncommon I don't have at least three different operating systems running at once, either remote desktoped into production server or virtual machines for test servers. When you have an IDE that covers two full monitors, one screen of web browser for reference, two other operating system taking up a full screen each and a million of terminal, text editor and folder windows I never have enough screen space. I could fill three monitors basically all of the time and often make good use of four.
Just got rid of my third at work, but I had a good use-case:
I had three. Then the backlight on one died. I have a strange feeling now, almost ...claustrophobic?
I agree with this, I recently upgraded my monitor and decided instead of putting my old monitor away to run both at once. It didn't last very long and I now only use one. I hate when people say "i have 3 monitors because I game on one, watch youtube/netflix/coolcomputersetups on the second and have vent/teamspeak/skype/tempature gauges on another." ...really? if you're a programmer or something that actually needs/uses all 3 monitors that's fine, and yes I even understand having 2, but if you have 3 or more monitors just to have that many monitors I think that is so stupid.
I cant live without 2.
Why is this guy getting downvoted? He doesn't want or need more than one, so why would he use them?
I just bought a USB video card for my work computer because we had extra monitors and I couldn't live with just two any more.
I agree with this. I fully utilize three monitors and couldn't go back. Internet on left, game on middle, email/steam chat on right.
Eh, I had 3 for a little while and it didn't really add much for me so I just made the third a dedicated TV.
Once you get more you never go back. Try a third
I don't even have room for a third. The two I have cover my entire desk.
My neck aches just from looking at it.
Everyone says this haha. That's not for my computer, the lower 2 monitors are. That's occasionally used for movies.
I just rewatched this episode a few days ago!
I don't have room for three, so I flipped one into portrait.
Would need to upgrade graphics card because then I would want to run games on all three at once and my 7950 wouldn't take it well by itself
7950 would handle it fine. You'd probably have to go down to Medium for most games though.
Yeah, my 6870 can run BF3 on 3 monitors at perfectly playable settings no sweat. Makes me nauseous though so I just stick with my center 27" cheap korean amazingness.
I wouldn't do it then. I love ultra too much.
It's not like you'd be removing the option for playing on a single monitor.
Not necessarily, my 660TI has 3 monitors connected to it and it runs games fine at high (AC3, Borderlands 2, DiRT Showdown).
Really game dependent. Games like bf3 and farcry 3 and trying to keep 60fps is a pain. I found even 7970 couldn't do many games. blood dragon lags on 3 monitors as it somehow doesn't run on both cards which is very annoying.
I play a ton if bf3 and I don't think it would handle it on ultra.
I had 3 on a 7850 no problem.
Honestly I had three immediately got bored and set the second up for my laptop.
Maybe time to upgrade your chair?
Hey if it works, it works... nahmean?
No, no. If anyone listened to this advice I would still be driving a 13 year old car, watching a 27 inch Phillips cathode TV, playing games on my 5 year old PC, and using a flip phone.
Priorities, though. Sometimes a chair is just a chair.
99 cadillac, 3 year old Dell, Moto flip phone.
AMD 2400 right here, I would love to have your video card.
If a projector is your monitor, you don't have to worry about two.
I have a n00b question; the stand you have your pc sitting on...what is that called and how much do they run? Is it part of the desk set up?
This man, it's a shelf btw
Can you link me to the shelf please? Nice setup btw.
The shelf isn't available online. You would have to go into an Ikea to get it. The link above contains the legs though.
Fix that fucking smiley O_O
I have the same desk (except with the thing that attaches above it) and my biggest "why didn't i do this before" was getting a dual monitor stand. it opens up so much more deskspace to push the keyboard/mouse back and gives it all a cleaner look.
This. Monitor arms really open up desk area. I have two ergotron lx arms, they're great.
My question: what are the benefits of using multi-mon setup rather than a single bigger monitor? I mean, can't you just use a tiling window manager?
I'm a bf3 admin so on my second monitor I can have the game chat for all channels and teamspeak
Your chair looks like its been through hell and back.
What desk is that? It looks awesome.
I can't speak for everyone, but I had that desk and I did not like it. I kept bumping my knees on the thing that goes across where you put the cables under the desk.
I do that sometimes but it is awesome for cable management and it works as a footrest too
I have this desk too. It's awesome - great cable management, clean look, and easy to assemble. It's from IKEA. Get that shit, brah!
I thought the same when I had to use 1 for a couple of weeks. It hurt.
I just recently added a second monitor and I feel the same way. I all ready feel like I need to add one more monitor I think three will be the perfect number, at least until I get three then I am sure four will be perfect.
Recently added a third monitor in portait view. Superawesome!
I seem to manage...... but I really want two more.
I ask myself this daily.
I think I'd rather have two 2560x1440 screens over one big 4k screen for a few situations.
I've got 1 2560x1440 and one 1920x1080 currently.
Wait until you get 3, then 2 feels like a number only lowly peasants have.
I always feel like a lowest peasant on here lol. People with their water cooling and dual 670s lol
I know those feels man.
What table is that and where can I get it. I like it
Frederik from ikea, link is above
That chair has been through some rough shit.
I had that desktop on the left years ago and changed computers and could never find it again. I think it was from Speedhunters but still didn't help me find it. Do you have a link please? Thanks!
Hey thanks, but that was the right one, I was on about the Toyota Cressida wagon on Cali plates.
I'm not sure whether you're Australian, or whether you'd care, but this car is one of my favourites around. I love going to meets and seeing this beast. Sergio is actually selling it at the moment and I wish i had the cash to purchase it.
As a one monitor user, what am I missing? The only time I wish I had a second is when I watch a tutorial on something and I don't have enough room.
I used to dual screen with CRTs ._.
I have your chair! And mine started falling apart soon after I bought it.
Its a really shitty chair
Bookmarkd, just for that s15. jk, very nice and simple station.
Fun fact, the dude who owns that car is selling it. You should also check out the All Stars Maloo Ute build from the same guys, the thing is a monster and you'll be shocked when you see it's only the first phase of three.
Go Canadian!! Show us your legos dude
I suggest saving up 'cause soon you'll be like "man, I wish I had a third one", then you'll be like "it'd be nice if I had three of the same models" then "a portrait mode screen would be awesome for coolcomputersetups" and soon you'll have a computer setup that will make NASA engineers shit their pants.
Answer: like a plebeian
Yeah, that's on my list
See if you can get a second hand Aeron. I got mine £750 off. Well worth it.
Craigslist here I come
My friends say that having 3 monitors is useless. facepalm
There are still people who only use one monitor?
I have two eyes! So... Two monitors!
Because you were staring at porn you bloody wanker. look at that chair
Chair is a piece of shit lol, started falling apart right after I bought it
Aside from the chair... how? This looks rather nice.
