Gaming Setup - Computer Setup

Comments

This is probably my favorite minimalist setup so far. Everything is just beautiful.
The chair is the Markus from IKEA. The keyboard is a CoolerMaster QuickFire Rapid. It was charcoal color but it started to peel so I tried to paint it. I failed the first color, found one that I liked better, failed it too and I made the best of what I had.. I sanded it down and it made it look like Borderlands.
How do you find the chair? I am currently thinking of purchasing that exact one.
I'm a huge guy at 265lbs. I had another $300 chair and the seat padding started to flat out. After 3 months I was sitting on wood.
As a slightly skinny average height guy sounds like it will be fine for me!
As an other big guy...
Yup, can confirm: Big guy here, own the exact same chair as OP -- Chair is comfortable as fuck, and no noticeable decline in the comfort of my ass after 5 months with the chair.
I'm going on 2 years with the black MARKUS. I'm 6'3" and it's the best chair I've encountered at any price for my height, including the largest Aeron.
The back is not adjustable on mine except when you tilt the whole chair, along with the seat.
Ick. Eff that. Cool LCD on the bottom of your mouse btw
Loving the positive reviews on the Markus by you and all the replies below. I'm 6'2" and I've been looking for a new chair for a while, and the Markus has been on my radar. I think I'll pick it up sometime soon for sure!
I too have that same chair and I'm about 130 kg (~286 lbs) and had it for 2+ years but it recently started lowering itself which is annoying when your are suddenly sitting in the lowest position. I'm gonna try to get a replacement from IKEA since it have 10 year warranty.
Also a pretty big guy, chair is phenomenal. I like how you can lean all the way back too.
I thought so! I love your QFR. The paint is awesome :-) love the rest of the station, too!
I love my quickfire. I just got a complete set of blank keycaps for it. It looks so niiiaacee.
That keyboard is awesome! :) How much would you charge me to do that? lol
If you live in Canada, I could probably do it for a beer and you bring the paint cans.
Damn it! :( Always Canada... Argh lol
Where abouts in Canada. Fellow painter here. Mostly cases tho
Quebec, not too far from Ontario.
Yeah, I have the same keyboard and the charcoal color is definitely wearing off in places. I've had it for less than a year at this point, so it's not something you notice unless you look for it, but it's definitely going to get worse as time progresses.
Very nice! Good choice on audio components as well :)
Shure SRH440. Just got mine a week ago, they're pretty nice.
I've had mine for about 2 years, they are so uncomfortable. I only use them for drumming now and have since moved onto Beyerdynamic DT 990 250ohm, the most comfortable headphone ever made. They're like velvet sound pillows
Yeah they make some pretty decent products, the SE215 was one of my first decent audio purchases (fantastic IEM by the way). Their new SRH 1540 also looks pretty decent, I might grab a pair sometime next year and have a listen. Right now though I'm kind of stumped with what to get, possibly give the HD 800's a try, maybe the Alpha Dogs, possibly the Koss electrostats... I'll figure it out.
Can I get a link to that sweet wallpaper?
Looks like the last of us pixel art
I know that's why I said it...
And yet somehow, you're still wrong.
How was that wrong...? I said it was the last of us pixel art and it is...
Sorry, sarcasm. I was commenting on the number of downvotes you were getting despite being right, and having been confirmed right by a third party.
What mouse is that? Why does it have a Gamecube logo on it?
The mouse is a Steelseries Sensei. This mouse has an onboard LCD to change all settings related to the mouse so you don't need to use programs or alt-tab out of games.
Thanks for the response. I agree, it is pretty sweet.
Do you know if that logo can be changed on a SS Xai? Also, what was the dimensions you used for the Gamecube logo?
I have already stated why in the comment you just replied to.
If one of my friends had that mouse, I'm 100% sure I'd replace the bitmap with a dick as soon as I found it
My gaming setup is powered by;
How does the 7970 handle 1440p? Been looking to pick one up.
It's not too bad but I can't max out games with it. I'm looking for either another 7970 or sell this one and grab a 290x. It all depends on the wife.
Grab a 780 instead, man. It outperforms the 290x when they're both overclocked.
Yeah but he already owns a 7970. so why wouldn't he get another one to max games on his 1440p monitor?
Just wondering, how much did that cost?
You're that guy with the badass QFR! also do you link your amp, and which one is it?
It's an Audioengine D1, not bad for the price considering it's features (24/96 DAC, preamp, and decent headphone amp).
Hey, I have been meaning to ask what those things are, I keep seeing them on these very awesome setups. Why do I need one and what else do I need?
If you aren't getting any audible hiss or popping with your onboard sound, then you mostlikely don't need one.
What's in the Starbucks cup?
I love that Bitmap! can you link it to me, i also have the sensei and id love to have that
I have those same keycaps!
Where did you get that desk?
I have the same desk. It's from Ikea. Its a table bar set up. Extremely cheap. About 30 bucks. It's calls limmons or something.
The desk is from IKEA. I can't remember the exact name but you can build them like you want.
Nice! I also have the X-star. I can push it to 112hz easy. Have you tried going past 96?
Yes, I have tried to push it higher but it bleeds light a lot at higher hz. 96hz was the sweet spot for me. I went up to 128hz.
How do you increase the frequency? I have a DGM branded version of the monitor (looks exactly the same).
Nice. I can only push it to 113hz but the pixel clock rate seems capped @ 470Mhz (113hz puts it to 467ish, i keep it @ 112 to keep my OCD happy. :D)
Be careful talking about OCD on Coolcomputersetups...there are tons of armchair psychologists waiting to leap at you and tell you why you're wrong.
Is that a custom cable for those headphones? Where'd you get it from?
Yeah, I'm curious too. From one SRH440 owner to another - what's the scoop on that cable? Oh and great set up! Very clean.
Always nice to see some decent audio equipment and keyboards on this sub.
Just bought that monitor this morning off ebay and pretty much going with a similar setup.
Qnix QX2710 Evolution II. I got mine for 280 shipped. You can do a pixel perfect one for 330.
Thank you, I might upgrade to it!
I'd recognize that qfr of yours anywhere
I want to eat that keyboard.
I'm planning to get an x-star, Did you get any dead pixels? any light bleed? Is it worth the 300$ price tag?
Also got an X-Star and bought the pixel perfect version so I don't have any dead pixels, though I do have some backlight bleeding but it's not even noticeable during normal usage.
I didn't pay for a pixel perfect and unfortunately I have one dead pixel. It's barely noticeable, though. I don't have any light bleeding at 60hz, however you start to see some at about 100hz.
You may not notice it all that much at first but when you switch back to 1080p you definitely notice the difference.
I've seen a couple videos of it and some people said it would be possible to take the stand out but I'm not sure, how hard do you think it would be? Don't know if you can answer this, but do you think the VESA mounting is strong?
The monitor was sitting on a dual monitor stand with the vesa mount. It's pretty straight forward to remove the stand, I'd suggest that you get yourself a plastic pryer kit to pop the bezel.
Where can I get one?
Your card can run it. However, you will not be able to max out graphics on most of the titles. I purchased mine on ebay, transaction went flawlessly.
Ahh, thanks! I am upgrading soon with my build, might get the new AMD or Nvidia, not sure what "hot" right now for 1440s...
Is you are talking about monitors, PLS panels are the new trend. Basically the same as IPS but overclockable straight out of the box. Qnix and X-star are the most popular.
How does the x-star stand up against glare? I'm just about to commit to a 27 1440p but I want to get the best one in my budget. No one really brings glare up, that i read
You can usually choose between the matte and glass version. The matte is the one with the most accurate colors and less glare.
Chair name? Looks sick and comfy!
Love the setup, what kind of mousepad is that?
Looks really nice, like it a lot ! Does it not bother you having a window behind you screen ? I would go crazy getting a bunch of sunshine in my face.
I recognize you from your keyboard.
Is that a 9HD? Do you find it kills acceleration on the Sensei?
It's an old Steelseries Qck XXL. I am waiting for a new one to arrive. This one is with a clothing coat and yes I find that it kills the acceleration. However, the aim is way more precise that way.
Hey what amp are you using?
Audioengine D1. It's a DAC/AMP, usb powered.
I have that one too. Do you notice a huge difference with it? I have it powering my ATH-M50's and it really isn't too noticeable of a difference to me.
My headphones benefits from the D1. I can hear the difference when I plug them straight into my motherboard.
There are probably a few reasons for that.
Because the M50's are a fairly efficient can to begin with, they really don't gain much benefit sound wise from amplification. The DAC stage is likely to be better than what's available on a regular PC (assuming you came from onboard audio) offering clearer less noisy sound, otherwise it won't really make a lot of difference.
I'm really new to these audiophile quality headphones, I was looking into some good cans for home setup, was checking out HD558s 80ohms up to dt990s 250ohms.
Cool thanks! Added to wishlist. Planning on upgrading my whole station soon.
If you are on the market for a reasonably priced DAC/amp combo unit for headphones only, the FiiO E17 is hard to beat for a similar price. It is on the slightly warmer side of things sound wise but it has the added benefit of being portable (has a built in battery) in case you're ever on the go.
Also looking for this. Mine just broke
I will be buying one of these in ~1.5 months. Where would you buy a new bezel?
You don't need to buy anything, you just remove the plastic case!
Oh my mistake, that's even better!
Thanks for the advice but my X-star has a gap between the display and the casing itself when debezeled. Did you put anything to cover that gap?
Between the panel and the metal part around the outside? Mine had a small gap on the bottom, but that went away (along with the backlight bleed) when I took the frame off and straightened it out
Yes. Once I debezel, you can see the metal frame of the display. How did you cover that up?
That's pretty slick. This might be my next "upgrade". Thanks for sharing!
And if you have any backlight bleed it can be fixed when you take that metal frame off to paint it, just make sure it's straight
Since you took the bezel off, where is the power button, etc? Did you mount in on the back side?
I need a black desk, what is that desk and where can I get it?!?! :D
The Galant desk from IKEA looks pretty great
I, too, have 840s. They rule
Enjoy coating on top of the mouse while it still lasts
I already have some coating coming off. This makes me sad since this is a ~$90 mouse.
Love your keyboards colors!!! very nice!
Why no 120? If it's an X star it should be capable. I got my Qnix at 120 out of the box within 10 minutes. They are basically the same I believe. Not that 96 isn't awesome.
How much did this all cost? (Table, chair, computer, etc.)
Where did you get that keyboard at?
How did you go about making your spacebar tilt that way?
When you remove the space bar, there are two white tabs under, you remove those and set them backward and re-install correctly.
Did you rebuild that 360 controller yourself? Is it easy/worth doing?
It's fairly straight forward, you can find new colored parts on ebay along with a screwdriver for cheap then it takes about 10 minutes to do.
Nice, sir. The classy setup is up against your username, but i'll forgive you.
So clean :D, where can I get that wallpaper?
How solid is the chair's back? I'm relatively big - 6ft1, 210 pounds - and I need a chair that won't break after 3 months (like my last one), and I was looking at the Markus.
Where did you get the desk at?
Ahh, this makes me feel bad about not having redesigned my desk setup! I need to clean up cables...
Did you make the bitmap yourself?
Why did you needed a dac for srh440
What monitor do you use.
Love the setup! I considered a QFR myself, but ended up with a filco. Still trying to work up the nerve to pop off the frame to make my own modifications, though ... I saw somewhere else in this thread that you painted yours. Did you plastidip it?
Really nice setup! Source for that wallpaper??
Do you play CS:GO by any chance?
I do play CS:GO on occasion. Why?
Instincts. Saw the Steelseries gear and knew it. :)
It's a lcd, not a sticker.
This looks incredible, apart from that rainbow puke colored keyboard.
Love the standard Starbuck cup.
Nice setup, but how do you get by without a number pad?
Did you paint your key caps too?
I purchased them on ebay couple months ago!
Are your keys labeled? Sissy.
True computer wizards don't rely on lack of labels to stop themselves from looking at their keys
Haha totally true since I look at my keys sometimes even though I have no labels on them. Also I basically still guess at symbols a lot of the time.
