Many Monitors - Computer Setup

Comments

OP's sentimental value for that keyboard is through the roof.
It is an awesome keyboard. I disassemble it yearly and clean all the parts. I am a tactile kind of guy.
Actually it's an IBM Model M, it's a really popular mechanical keyboard, I really want one.
When I was 12, me and a few friends decided to find an old keyboard and destroy it with our airsoft guns. We did. It was a Model M. I feel really bad about that now.
I also always regret destroying some old family PC gear. Years ago I dumpstered the Dell Dimension XPS D300 that was a huge part of my adolescences. Now i'm all nostalgic about that stuff and really wishing I had kept it around.
I still remember watching with regret as the guy walked to his car with the Amiga 1000 I sold him for $200. I still miss that computer.
My childhood keyboard came with an IBM model M. None of us liked the fact that it was loud, so we threw it out and bought a brand new state of art quiet rubber dome keyboard... :/
They really are great keyboards, I'm using one now :) I got a terminal version one for cheap and just converted it with a small amount of soldering
Where did you get that keyboard and what did it involve to change it
Thanks for correcting me, I knew there was something up because the model M usually has the super key missing.
I coulda sworn it was a Unicomp 104 key, but I guess I didn't zoom in, haha.
I'm always too late to state the obvious.
Man i've always wondered what kind of work requires this much hardware. Stock Market ?
I am an Lighting designer for live shows and concerts. I use all the screen space for both designing a show. and/or off site progrmaing.
Yup, I go there. It is on my subscription list.
What kind of work is there in that industry for 3D animators? As a 3D artist, doing visuals for events and concerts has always been a dream of mine. Working in advertising now, but I see something like that in my future. Any pointers?
Console of choice on the road? We use hog for pc at my venue and just add on some playback wings
Oh cool what do you use programming for?
The black start bar screams vista
I miss the look of vista. reinstalled it about a year ago to give it another shot but 24 hours later of installing updates said screw it:/
What do you use the server racks for?
It ranged. but it is more an A/V rack.
What do you use all these monitors for? i have 2 atm, and i want 3, but i have no idea what i would do with 7.
I am sure I said the same thing when I only had 2. I just happened to have 2 of the same monitors in storage due to a RMA glitch. When they are readily available. The idea bulb comes on above your head and things 'how about I add another.' Then... "well I could use one more." and it never stops. I am sure I will have 8 at some point.
You are being downvoted because your link doesn't work.
Anything you want. It's like using linux workspaces but instead of switching to another workspace you just move your head. It's that along with "oh, I don't need that yet better move it.
Good to see that your PSC 750 ran up until 2011... or at least didn't make it into the pics after that. I bought mine in 2000-2001 and it's still going strong.
I still got it and it still solid. knocks on wood It is over on the side of my office now.
The scanner bed on mine broke... I've had two other PSCs since... I've resorted to a laserjet for printing.
Awesome! Finding ink is a pain, but I finally found a good seller on Amazon that has a great price.
I have no issues finding ink. Black 15, Color 78. And I can easily find it at Staples, or Office Depot.
I never thought I'd see someone else with the same carpet as me in their basement. Battle stations cool too.
The fact that you used the same amazing keyboard through all those years made me very happy.
It's not a mechanical, though.
Wow. It's always cool to see the evolution of a person's gaming setup over the years, but this one was a little special to me. For the majority of those pics it seems as though you were in a basement, just totally dominating with whatever you could get. I've kinda always wanted that, to be like that, ever since long ago when it was the norm for the big "nerds" to do. Now I'm afraid I'll never get that, because (hopefully) I'll probably never be in a situation where I need to be in a basement, with things spread out everywhere because I can't afford a one big thing for it all, because I probably will be able to. It's sad man, this kind of computer setup as already getting smaller, denser, and sleeker. I'm gonna miss 'em.
Being in my mom's basement had it's perks. But now that I have my own home, and am seeing the montly utility bills. I have cut back.
Damn, in pics 2 and 3, I owned both of those Dell computers in the lower right corner. The white one with that weird vent at the bottom, and the black one right beside it which had that stupid USB placement under that flap in the front. Also I think that case opened like a book after pressing buttons on the top and botom of the case, but it would only open about 50 degrees. Because of that, this case earned the dubious honor of being the worst case I've ever owned. I'm way behind in getting a server rack and multi monitor setups put together, though. I should get on that.
White one was a Dell Dimension V350 case model. Mine did not have the fan on top, but had a fairly easly side panel open.
I actually still have the black one and she's a fighter. It sucks you have to be on the floor to put a usb in but it works and that's all I really care about.
Thank god you got ride of that HP PSC...750? Eleven years old and thirty quid for an ink cartridge!
Sorry to dissapoint, but I still have it.
Why are you not using widescreen monitors?
Cost and resolution. I like my 1200 height resolution. (great when scrolling coolcomputersetups). Plus there is nothing wrong with them. So why replace.
I just got a 1440p monitor and I'm not regretting it. If it ain't broke don't fix it works until the upgrade is so tantalizing you cannot resist.
I also really like the 1600 x 1200 resolution. Works great in landscape or portrait mode. I have 6 HP LP2065's. They're great and nowadays cheap too, about $50 used. Purchased the first few for around $300 ea.
Any plans to de-bezel em? I did for my 4:3 and it's great!
Because using the same monitor for 8 years is either depressing or incredible depending on present company.
Can you help me justify building a server rack like that? I do all kinds of computer work, but in reality I can get buy with a $500 laptop since I'm mainly doing coding and my code is cloud-compiled. But secretly I've always wanted to be a network engineer / system admin and that server rack just speaks to my soul.
Go on Craigslist and search for racks. Should be able to find a half-height one for $100 or a full one for $200. Then hop on eBay and buy a couple gigabit switches for $70 each. Cruise to Newegg and buy a couple 4U rackmount cases, put $500 of low-ish power stuff in one so you have a server you can leave on, and fill the other with your desktop parts.
You ain't joking this time around.
In 2005 you had a 1985 camera. Fantastic set up though.
I am always late to the part.
In the pictures from '08 to '11, there is this board-like thing with holes underneath your desk that you have some walkie-talkie look-a-like stuff attached to. (sorry if that was hard to read)
TIL the monitor I use on my 2008 laptop is from 2005
Why all the 4:3 love? Not that there is anything wrong with a complete 4:3 setup.
Woohoo! Another person with many monitors :3 I have a 8 24" setup I got for myself at work :) I really need to share that here!
And i'm just sitting here with a Chamsys mini wing and a touchscreen :(
Is it me or am I seeing vista?
Did you have your own sever also? Or just the rack?
What do you use the server for?
I think the "lamp" is actually a microphone and the thing under it looks like a mixer of some kind.
Kdrishe is correct. That is a microphone. What is under it is an dual channel audio mixer. I used it for skype an streaming video. Allowing me to mix the broadcast send only, separate from my 'stuido' mix.
This is a neckbeard gaming setup if I ever saw one.
