Thanks, I had no idea what they were called. I've been looking at cast iron table bases on ebay but the prices are all over the place.

Made one kinda of like it at about the cost of $150. With a little effort and some staining anything can look good.

Also just keep an eye out at any local thrift shops. I'm lucky to work at one, if you just hold off for a month or two, you'll find something close to what you want, for 10x less.

I agree that the hardware on OPs desk is really cool, I just don't know if it is $1500 cool. My real issue is that the wood is so cheap; according to the interwebs, telephone poles can be had for, 30 cents a foot; which seems ridiculous for a 2k dollar desk. I like the look, and I think more went into it than just throwing some telephone poles onto a piece of iron, but it strikes me as really over priced.

That is beautiful yet out of my price range. Is there a grid of iron holding the planks to the legs? Is it possible to get an upskirt pick of it? Also, did you have those cabinet/book shelves made?

Thanks and whoa! They are quite pricey for such a simple design. Looks like a good model for a DIY desk with some reclaimed wood though. It is beautiful however and those knotholes make for some creative cable management.

Many gaming setups in this sub have two computers on the desk.

I'm rebuilding my music performance rig around two... But that's music, that will always be a lot of hardware!

Would you do if one breaks? Wait a week for Apple to return it to you, before you can continue working? ;)

Actually, you can go in to Apple, buy a new one, then return it when yours is fixed. They have no restocking fee within 14 days (I think it was 14). This is what they encouraged me to do last time my logic board died and I needed the computer later that afternoon. As long as you're running Time Machine backups you can be pretty much back exactly where you were within an hour and a half. Or, ya know, build a desktop.

With a macbook here, and a macbook air, here's a dog, there's a mask, everybody mac-mac...

The speakers are terrible, I should know... I've got them too! Well, not terrible for a 2.1 computer speaker system I suppose.

What would you recommend? I'm looking for something stylish, and space saving.

I would look at something like the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1. They have great reviews and they look about the right size for your setup.

Is there anything similar in the less than $150 price range?

Does it also have to be inexpensive? Any decent bookshelf speakers and a receiver/amp would do... a sub will set you back as much as both of those together for a decent one, though.

Good choice on the monitor. I am 2 weeks into ownership, and the only con I can find is that I don't have two. It has ruined 1080p for me.

Can I ask why it has ruined 1080p for you? Seriously thinking about picking 2x of these up.

It is just the perfect monitor in my opinion. Having my 23 inch Samsung right next to it just highlights the differences.

Good to know that the ergotrons can support the Dell 27" IPS displays (which are decently hefty). When I bought my mounts, I remember it saying 24" max.

Size is less important than weight for these mounts, the screens come in under the max weight for it, thankfully.

What are you using to manage the razer mouse with on OS X? I've been using the Razer app for it, but it regularly crashes after unplugging the mouse/shutting the lid. Or do you just live without the forward/back buttons?

This might just be the best gaming setup I've ever seen in this sub. I'd take this tidy and rustic station over a flashy, epilepsy inducing one any day.

Hah I know how you feel. When I had my previous PC underneath my desk was a mess. When I built the new one and put it in, I went full OCD and cable tied everything to shit. Now you can't even see or feel the cables and every time I look at how well I did it feels awesome
